I am a second generation Oversea Chinese. I I have seen how China was in 60s, it was poor. Many of my adopted country Chinese families had to send money to their birth villages. Today, China is peaceful and prosperous in may sectors, thanks to the wise leaderships and diligence population. Glad to hear from the great President Xi emphasised the important of Hutong in modern Beijing. I had stay in Hutong twice for holiday and it made me feel very much at home.
My grand parents migrated from poverty stricken China to Malaysia in the early 19 th century. Malaysians of Chinese origin to date are still being discriminated in Malaysia and the Chinese diaspora continued further on to Australia, Europé, USA and Canada. Lots of chinese diaspora are suffering in discrimination and poverty in the countries they migrated to. Seeing President Xi make me wish that all countries and nations take care of its people so no one need to migrate or suffer unnecessarily.
This is an aspect of China's leadership I find endearing. He comes across as very warm, caring and down-to-earth. Our leaders from the West can take some tips from President Xi in how to connect with the common people.
