I'm upset that there is a generation who cannot appreciate how vital Missy was and is to the sounds we love now. There is NO one with her energy.
Yes! I’m realizing now how I slept on her but she’s an integral part of my childhood

Missy is so far ahead of everyone else. Musically. It doesn’t make any sense how her stuff still doesn’t sound like anyone else’s. Just a musical genius.
I’m so glad they inducted her into the rock n roll hall of fame.

Gotta give Timbaland credit for that too, the man was highly talented.

Super gifted. ✨
And it’s genuine, so it hits different
That intro gives me goosebumps every damn time... it's so profound, it doesn't get the credit it deserves. Such a beautiful, melancholy tribute.
This comment right here. I'm here just playing back the beginning over an over smh
yeah. it's crazy - never paid much attention to it and I've been into Missy for decades. It's hitting me now in 2018, lol. I think it's because I got new headphones and I'm hearing something I never heard: the girl softly humming in the background of the beat. It's just gorgeous and sad.

Missy elliott has the most creative videos ever
Blanca I agree. That's one a lot of the reasons I love her. Her videos are dope.
Her music is amazing, her lyrics are brilliant, and her videos are what won me over completely. I've always loved hip hop but all the videos were very similar. Missy brought a much needed creative surge. Her, Ludacris and Busta Rhymes are the trifecta of creative hip hop videos.
That is so true!!!!
Not just her videos that's creative.
Real talk. She out there with it.
Damn, that poetry is insane in the beginning.
I'm so happy to see someone else appreciate it
Thanks. It speaks straight to my core each time. Makes the art, from all aspects, very enjoyable.

There are no words to express how fresh these beats are.
back in 2000s theese beats where anyoing and all around. she took hip hop into some synthi crap music. this is more a techno song with a rap collabo than a hip hop production.
major label artist who was irrelevant in middle and late 2000s.
why u think timbo went platin with timberlake, furtado etc. but not missy
this what we called whack back in the day missy was dope in the 90s. she went mainstream. become irrelevant. still is

she's so cool.
I used to dance to this in the clubs as a mid 20s. It's amazing that at 42 years of age. I missed all the little things she talks about. It was double dutch roping..she always has double meanings to everything.
Yes shes also talking about weed! Pass that dutch!
This was like 14 years ago and I am still mesmerized by the idea of having a bunch of dancers dutch clogging in a cornfield under a UFO searchlight to a bass heavy chorus singing pass that dutch.... just amazing, I miss original music videos like this.
Brilliant mind 👍🏿
I miss them too so nostalgic 😩
fyi that wasnt dutch clog dancing. no clogs and wrong dance. it goes in a circle. have a nice day. ❤️
Someone took that idea from me and a friend of mine. It's not Dutch clogging, it's actually Irish dance. Notice the hops and kicks out front. Our thing was going to the club and doing Irish dance to hip hop music. We'd bust it out randomly and people took interest. Less than a year later, I get a message from a friend- "yo, they're doing your dance in Missy's video!" What dance? "That Irish thing." I thought they were joking until I saw the video. "No one's putting that in a video, we just do that for laughs." Watching it made me understand why people took interest, it's different enough to be cool. Little know fact, tap dance started when the Irish first came over and moved into black neighborhoods. Black saw them clogging and though, and decided to adopt it and adapt it using bottle caps. That's where the name tap comes from... the bottle caps were replaced by metal plates called taps. However, the style of dance in the video is called soft shoe. I came up with the idea one day while thinking about my mixed Irish and Afrikan heritage. Doing Irish step to hiphop was a way to bring those two together. Thank you Missy and choreographer for sharing the idea with the world. Try it at a party, it'll get people talking for sure.
I always loved how hard Missy went for Aaliyah. I love that so much. Aaliyah is SOOO very loved 💓💓💗

Missy Elliot has such a refreshing confidence. It’s contagious. Lyrical phenomenon.
The video that made me a Missy Elliott stan! I was at first in awe of the video at such a young age that I had to instantly record it on my VHS player then when I replayed the clip 3 or 4 times, my ears were captivated by the classic Timbaland/Missy beat I had to cop "This Is Not a Test!" CD in a heartbeat. I wasn't allowed that year of '03 to get it because I was so darn young, but by freshman year of high school my folks got membership discounts on Books-a-Million CD's and lo and behold Missy's "This Is Not a Test!" CD was among the lot and I was able to get it before it went out of stock. Proud owner of it & all things Missy 15 years later. Man, I wish Missy was still makin' music year after year. What a time!
Just got my Missy tickets! She is by far one of the best artists ever. She never had to use her body to sell records. Always kept it classy.
