    People are missing that the reason Luffy is especially sad about Vegapunk's death is because he broke his promise to him. What's another promise that Luffy always makes? That he's going to be King of the Pirates! Vegapunk's death would be a sign that Luffy can't keep his promises, so that might mean that he can't keep his promise to be Pirate King. At the end of the chapter, once he is told that Vegapunk is actually "alive", he realises that he CAN keep his promises and regains his confidence to exclaim that he's DEFINITELY gonna be King of the Pirates!! 👑

    I think it's simple for Zoro, his entire persona and moral code is about accepting death without a shred of hesitation. He has casually embraced death many times in his life. Sorry, but nah. Most of these takes on Zoro are hilarious to me because what I see here is the same Zoro we already saw on Punk Hazard and on Zou and plenty of times pre-ts. When Zoro gets "serious" with Luffy and "grumpy" it's always because HE feels he is lacking.
    He himself is upset with himself(!) but because he was never one to admit that so he is grumpily projecting his feelings on Luffy. He started the whole fight with Lucci because Stussy got hurt protecting Vegapunk when they got surprised by Lucci (something he suspected would happen but couldn't prevent). He then got told by Lucci he is dead weight when the crew is getting attacked by Kizaru and tries to flee, then that sentiment is echoed by Sanji, Jimbei and Nami eventually who all tell him to get going and then he watched Atlas blow herself up in a sacrifice so they could finally escape after waiting on him. This is what's going on here, not Luffy having to "project standing" and Zoro teaching him or some bs.
    This is the same guy from last arc that fucked up the Onigashima stealth plan because he thought of a little hungry girl when people spilled soup, the man that refused to retreat because he wanted revenge on Orochi after Yasui died, the guy that saw Kiku's arm falling from the roof to push him to defeat Apoo and get up there.
    The same guy that is carrying around a promise he made to a dead childhood friend and made that his life's goal. Zoro cares about both people and promises, and if Sanji was in that scene they both would be arguing and fighting to blow of some steam from the pressure, but because he's with "the other guys" he's instead downing drinks telling himself that caring about people and failing is dumb.

    When I read that, I was actually appalled by how seemingly out of character this line was for Zoro - since HE is the definition of someone who always keeps their promises and holds his captain to even higher standards. If anything, he should best understand how devastating it is for Luffy to break his word (even if it was arguably out of Luffy's control - but since he will be Pirate King, he should be able to deliver even impossible promises in his and Zoro's eyes). After all, how would Zoro think if he learned he cannot keep one of his own promises, for example the one to Kuina? Being true to your word is the core, the essence of who Zoro is and brushing off such promise like Zoro did feels like looking at an impostor.

To him all promises he makes hold the same amount of importance to him. So you'd think that Zoro, being around him for so long, would understand that key aspect of Luffy's character.

  • @monke1419
    @monke1419 24 дня назад +1

    Zoro is absolutely in the wrong. Luffy didn’t just lose Vegapunk the man, he failed his mission to saved him. Back in marineford, luffy didn’t just lose ace. He pulled up on impossible odds with the singular mission of saving ace alongside the entire whitebeard crew. He faced warlords, admirals, even the fleet admiral. He faced his own grandfather who was a prominent male and even father-like symbol in both his and ace’s life and punched him without hesitation just to save Ace. He nearly died and also almost succeeded, but failed. The tragedy is due not just to the loss of someone you love but the failure felt from having not succeeded in saved them even despite all the effort. The same happened with Vegapunk during egghead. Luffy’s protection over Vegapunk was an order given to sanji, and after hey escape they say they failed their mission to protect Vegapunk. It’s the same situation as with ace. Now obviously you can still play dumb and say “shank’s statement about it being ok to cry over ace’s death is related to a much more heartbreaking circumstance than just vegapunk dying.” And that’s true. Obviously luffy shouldn’t react the same way over vegapunk dying as wi the ace dying, …but he didn’t. With ace, luffy was completely traumatized. With vegapunk luffy was just really sad. Shank’s statement still applies to the situation just to a lesser extent than with ace because obviously luffy was closer with ace. Zoro was just being an asshole because unfortunately that’s how he is sometimes. He wants to uphold what he expects from his captain but sometimes he been wrong regarding his stances on certain points. That’s ok.
    Now I shouldn’t have been surprised you agreed with Zoro here because I know you’re an infamous yonko glazer. Half of this video is dedicated to glazing the yonko as to try and bring credibility to Zoro using the yonko title to be an asshole. Your main point of the yonko being so dominant over the marines is that one stated from Garp. Unfortunately you never read it in a fair way. Garp says that the marines + the warlords are currently what’s equating the yonko. Now does this somehow mean that yonko > admirals like I’ve seen you try to say with this statement before? No. The admirals don’t have crews. The yonko have crews. How many times do you think kol has glazed the power of a yonko’s crew specifically. A lot, and that’s cuz the story itself does so too. Remember when Marco commented on how expectedly hard it is to stall kaido’s top two commanders? The admirals have vice admirals, but everyone including kol are overwhelmingly aware that the vice admirals are ass. Outside of Garp, none of them are relevant. If you put an equal admiral and yonko in a fight with their crew and vice admirals, the yonko would still win even if they themselves were equal to the admiral. The vice admirals are poo poo compared to yonko crews. And yeah the marines have armies of fodder marines, but yonko have entire fleets too. The warlords made up for the advantage yonko had by having strong crews. That’s really all it is. None of this means the yonko position means that individual is stronger than someone in the admiral position. Sure you can point to shanks who is the strongest yonko embarrassing Greenbull who is the weakest admiral. But kizaru in egghead stalemated luffy while barely paying attention to him and being mentally conflicted. Aokiji scales higher than big mom too. It just depends on the matchup. The positions themselves are more or less equal.
    Also…this garp statement absolutely does not include the gorosei or Imu. Be fr. The marines are not the same as the world government. The world government has the marines to do their fighting for them. That does mean Imu is subject to the same losses that like fujitora would have. Saturn himself says it’s been forever since he’s touched the surface when he pulled up to egghead. They purposefully do not intervene directly unless you can’t Imu using the ancient weapon.

Zoro will always be cold and harsh it isn't that he doesn't care Zoro is shown to have emotions on many occasions. I believe he just knows the time and place for such things. He told Luffy to stop playing this is the new world when he was flopping battles and being caught off guard due to carelessness. Furthermore, Luffy is an idiot anyone who thinks he claimed to be genius is not watching the anime or reading the manga. Clearly, he stated on his own he is absolutely useless "I can't cook. I can't clean, can't draw a map I can't steer a ship. Without my crew I would die on the sea." Zoro knows who his captain is as all of them do all Zoro is doing here is simply his part Zoro always hits Luffy hard where it hurts because it's his job and he believes in him.

    I think a lot of us are forgetting why we feel in love with one piece now that luffy is an Yanko. Luffy's whole thing is hes a pirates but isnt like they other pirates. He wants ultimate freedom. But his ultimate freedom doesnt mean stepping on others lives to achieve it. If anything hes ultimate freedom would be to liberate the entire world and have a party with them. Hes the exact opposite of blackbeard, blackbeard will do anything for his freedom. A world were blackbeard is at top. Being good is why Luffy' crew joined him. Its why he made several pirate alliance. Luffy does what he wants but what he wants is also happens to help a lot of people. I also think luffy understands the true value of people. Luffy isnt smart and he used to tell his crew all the time. He cant do everything thats why they are there. He need Nami for he navigation skill. A lot of the crew fills specific roles. And if they dont they are strong and courageous enough to face Yanko all by themselves and still achieve their missions. Luffys understands that and extends that same feelings to the random people he meets on the islands. I mean skypiea. Without the help of Cricket that adventure would have never happened he would have never seen the writing of Rodger. There are so many examples of this. For him to lose that little bit of humanity to him he would be just any other pirates.
    So maybe he was crying for the old man. But he was doing it because he couldnt keep a promise. Egghead was a nice dude to luffy and the crew. All versions of egghead. We have to be real here too. Without Egghead luffy and crew would not have made it out of egghead island. There was a lot of close calls and people with powers we have never seen before. I personal dont think he was crying because the old man egghead died either, just he couldn't keep his promises. Just like i was saying before Luffy does good things but its more for his on personal desires. But I can understand zoro's statement.

    My biggest problem with how people are understanding this scene is that they think Zoro is shaming Luffy's performance on Egghead. He isn't. He is saying that he should stop crying and get over it. What is done is done. Especially since Luffy technically didn't fail, because Lilith is alive. And also, unlike the other Strawhats Zoro probably had the fewest interactions with any of the Vegapunks so he wasn't as attached to them. Pair this with Zoro's more stoic nature and harsh attitude in tough situations this response isn't unusual. I honestly think a lot of the damage was caused by the leaks for this scene which were translated wrong and of course, people then jump to conclusions and make up their minds about the scene before it's properly translated.

    • @shawnshock8651

    Another casual 'Zoro not understanding Luffy as a person' moment.
    Luffy is mostly crying because he failed to keep his promise, not because an "old geezer" he barely knows died. To Luffy that's similar to not being able to prove his resolve and will power and even puts his dream in to question.
    To say Luffy is over reacting in any way, is like saying Zoro over reacted when he first lost to Mihawk.
    Then again, what would Mr. "I will never lose again" know about keeping words lol.

    Zoro is an edgelord, so he can cry and show emotions when making an oath to his captain about becoming the strongest sword fighter but Luffy can't show remorse for thinking he wasn't good enough to save someone else? Which is one of Luffy's most important character traits, becoming strong enough to protect his nakama. Honestly that was a weird line coming from Zoro.

    I think people misunderstood what zoro is saying. Luffy is childish and he never wants to let go of the fact that the world isn't all sun shine and rainbows. Luffy literally went through hell in marineford yet is crying like crazy because he couldn't save a old man? I dont think people understand that Luffy is being childish by sticking to his beliefs that as long as he has hope no one has to die but in reality it doesn't work that way because people are gonna die regardless yet Luffy in his mind doesn't want to accept that. That's truly why zoro is calling him pathetic because he understands the world for what it is.

Thus since godvalley imu has been very weary of powerhouses like that, very careful when handling a powerhouse like that, because imu knows these powerhouses would whoop azz. If luffy is bummed about something, hes entitled to feel that way, emperor or not. hes the captain and the emperor so if he feels a way about the situation, he does. justified or not. now if zoro said he shouldnt feel that way cause xyz, then he'd have a greater argument, if one old man is he reason from the outside looking in it would seem valid, and given he spent majority of the arc fighting lucci, no wonder he doesnt understand.
    first things first, the connections vegapunk has to a couple of them like robbin and franky, one more than the other and how luffys took promises in the past, if anything im surprised franky or robin didnt have anything more to say about it, and in my opinion wouldve been nice to see. regardless, he has a point if luffy want to maintain that visage of the standard emperor, and thats the problem I have with his mentality, luffy is by no means standard and can conduct himself as he feels, does that means hes 100% correct? hell no, but if youre gonna say somethings pathetic take a look at the picture as a whole and the hypocrisy that comes with that statement when he didnt experience the vast majority of when luffy went through to keep that one promise he though he failed to keep.

    Their a passive group of pirates, I treat it the same as Yasu dying with Zoro and Sanji so close but he gets executed right in front of them, but it barely matters in terms of what they were responsible for.
    We know Vega punk has back ups but the mission request was failed even if death that way was intended. Luffy was remorseful about that; from the way things occur on every island previously its all well ends well we ruined the opposition, lets party this time it was just the ordeal was hollow there were no songs to sing over this one.
    Zoro is one to talk based on how he would not relent against Lucci he had to stubbornly have the win he desired over Lucci it could not happen, he was carried off by Jimbei. Zoro would stay to die than not win decisively, even if it was not necessary.

    Goodness. The reading comprehension of this fanbase is atrocious in these comments. Zoro is simply saying luffy shouldn’t be MOPING about someone’s death. Luffy can feel sad or defeated but as an emperor he shouldn’t SHOW IT or let it affect him THIS MUCH. Get it? He should’ve already recovered and continue to look forward. Because luffy is an emperor now and he has a new image as such to uphold. It’s the same thing with enies lobby where zoro reminded luffy that he’s a captain of a pirate crew FIRST and friend SECOND. Zoro’s job is to make sure his captain knows what’s up.
    Zoro wasn’t MOPING over yasuie nor his friends death when he was a kid. He moved forward quickly. Plus even if that’s the case, zoro isn’t the emperor, luffy is. LUFFY needs to uphold a new image especially with how all prior emperors acted in public view. An emperor shouldn’t get depressed.

  • @Procrastinater
    @Procrastinater 24 дня назад

    The way I see it, Luffy needs ambition, since not only does that fit his position as a Yonko, but ambition is literally what fuels Haki. If Luffy has the ambition to fill the shoes of a Yonko, to defend his territories and pick fights with those who challenge his position as a Yonko, it would only serve to make Luffy stronger. He needs stronger and more Haki to use gear 5 without becoming a prune after 5 minutes after all.
    Which is sort of paradoxical, since Luffy is all about freedom, being unfettered by obligations and free to pursue his goals and dreams.
    Thus far, what has fueled Luffy's growth is his ambition to do what he wants to do, no matter what that might be. Which aligns with his goals, whevever he archives his often selfish and impossible goals, he gets stronger, he is living up to his ambition, his Haki improves. This time, he did not archieve his goals, in Luffy's mind he lost as he could not do what he promised he would. However, Luffy did not know that Vegapunk did not intend to live, even though he asked Luffy to save him. Which is why Lilith telling them that he did not actually die is very important for luffy's growth, but only if luffy agrees that vegapunk's plan to die was a good one.
    If there is one crew member who would know this about Luffy it would be Zoro, so him chastising Luffy might be related to Zoro believing that Luffy has to have more ambition than before as he is now that much closer to his goal and he cannot afford to break down over every small hurdle or setback. It is similar to what Luffy did to Vivi in the desert, chastising her for believing that she could do it all on her own without anyone dying. Zoro is saying that there is a price to pay, to climb to the top you cannot give up every time you stumble.

If the same thing happened with Zorro making a promise to somebody and they die he will be in the same position. He's also being a little harsh considering what happened on Wano.
