I use to work at locks n dams on ky river, and we did alot of fishing, I had extremely good luck with hotdogs and Vienna sausages right in the spillways, caught huge catfish like 4 feet long, it was fantastic,
I've been fishing with hotdog ever since watching this video, I've had good results. Only been using 1/2 inch of dog and been catching Cat. Even caught a land shark about 2 foot on vacation last week in Gulf Shores. Thanks for the tips
Thank you so much for posting this video. I first watched it and I kinda ignored it but kept it in the back of my mind for later. I went on a catfish dry spell for about a year or less and I just decided to try this rig. First time out with this rig I caught 2 channel cats around maybe 8 pounds! (I know some people think 2 isn't that much but for my local lake, 2 catfish in a day rarely happens!) I was stoked! I spent the rest of my summer using this rig and put 6 catfish under my belt. Then, this huge bass decides to try a hot dog, that guy was around 7 pounds! Then a 10lb bass came up, my personal best. As my last summer in California, this rig really changed my love for freshwater fishing. Memories were made and friends were made this summer. Thank you for this rig, it surely works! Now if I get a chance to go for catfish again in Hawaii, I'll definitely use this rig. Aloha!
+antoeknee wongjoy You are very welcome antoeknee. Always glad to hear of good catches made and good times. Congratulations! Those are some really good fish.
Great tip and techniques can't wait to try this with my country cousin. Your audio and video are very clear and I feel I'm not wasting my time because of your presentation.
As kids we used hot dogs for catfish bait. It works great! I once went fishing with a friend on his boat. We caught nothing all day until I put a scrap of hotdog on the hook. He thought I was nuts until it caught the only fish of the day. Unfortunately we didn't have any more hotdogs after that.
We have used hot dog pieces for years. Then friends brought up some cheese stuffed big red hotdogs to our camp and left them because we couldn't fit them on the grill. We tried one for bait with the kids and caught a baby pool full of bullhead! The skin on the hotdog was so tough you could catch 6 or so on each slice!! We kept them in the baby pool until the hotdog was gone then dumped them all back, fun night! Never thought about using a whole one!!
You are smart, nice and you know how to post a video with links in descriptions. Thank you so much for this. We caught big mouth bass with this rig! They were between 17-27 inches. FAT. We also used a light rig in the water when fishing at night. This as a combo with your rig is A+. THANK YOU!
I have heard of largemouth bass caught with them, never tried it though,, once grilling on edge of lake, (hot dogs, of course),, one rolled off of grill into the water and before it sank,, something gulped it down,, never saw it but it was big, in less than 4 feet of water... Thanks for the hook / tool tip.
like your setup, i usually bend the hook so it approaches a circle hook and also bend it so the point to favor either right or left side of shank. also when fishing on party boats using the above hook bending , would drive the hook into the bait fish so that the hook point is about 1/8" below surface of skin of the bait, my & wife usual catch rate every time was 3 or 4 to one of anyone in the area. [not always the big one but the mostest], regards,
Been using hotdogs for a few years now myself,we catch just about anything on them.we use 2 small cuts and slide them on the hook like any other bait. We do fish close to shore and catch a fair bit too, even bass hit hotdogs. Going to try yur way for getting bigger pieces on thx for making this.
One of the young fellows caught a 27# cat this week using the whole dog. I agree you don't need a huge piece but I think sometimes it makes a difference for a big fish.
I just stared at your shirt pocket for 4 minutes. I just use little pieces of Aldi's cocktail weiners. Cat fish love them.Just hook about a1/3 of weiner on a circle hook.Stays on the hook great, and they don't smell bad. One time I was using them for bait under a slip bobber, and caught a 3 lb. largemouth bass.
i made some rigs bu i dont have that big of catfish in the pond behind my house so i used smaler hotdogs and instead of a coat hanger i used a paper clip that i straightened out and then made a tiny "hook" on the end. basically the same thing ans your rig but sized down and instead of tying those loops, i used two swivles, one on the main line which had the clasp, and one attached to the hook without the clasp. i clasp the hook one to the main line.
yeah i cut them into 1 inch pieces and use a treble basically the same way. I don't use snells and i use fresh hotdog not wrotten. Never had any luck in the river with hot dog but a little in lakes and a lot of luck in ponds. The bait that works the best for me is bluegill heads. The rest of this fish works too but they seem really enjoy the head for some reason.
Dude nice way to set the hotdog on the line! love the idea very smart.. im a saltwater fisher but its slow in winter...so im gonna go try some blue cats in the river.
You are correct about no best bait. Many times people catch a fish on one bait and stick with it. If that's what you use and have confidence in it becomes a go to bait.
yeah i actually did this for a while i got bites here and there pretty good but not good in river use ......then i cut a hotdog into little pieces about half and inch and let sit over night in water with chopped garlic and salt, worked real nice/.... NICE VID!
Kahn's hot dog's and brauts work great for even Flatheads in the lakes and rivers where I'm at. I use a much smaller piece and put a toothpick on it and can throw it as far as I want to. They have banned them at a private lake I fish during tournaments! I've caught Common and Grass Carp off them. Along with a few Large Mouths. Everything in that lake loves them. They have to be Khan's though. Biggest Flathead was 26 pounds and I caught a larger one on a piece of flame kissed raw sausage.
i use dogs also but i season them with 2 tablespoons of garlic and 1.5 tablespoons of vanilla extract and a little bit of hot sauce. I put it in a ziploc sandwich bag then place it in the sun for 4 days and flip the bag over every evening. it works AMAZINGLY!
Thank You, That's great to hear. You can size the amount of hot dog you use to the size hook needed also. Good Luck and let me know how you do. One fellow reported a 40 pound cat and another showed several 6 to 8 pounders.
I've caught a lot of catfish on hotdogs! Most people think you are crazy when you tell them. But they do work. I think instead of making a tool to run the line through the hotdog, you could probably use a knitting needle.
Ha! Yes, I had one fellow use the whole dog and caught a 28# another a 21#. A young fellow caught his first cat, a 27" fish on one. They do like them but you are correct it's not necessary to use the whole dog. Just adjust your hook size to the amount you want to use.
WillCFish Fishing TipsandTricks Hello sir, please i need to ask, should i leave the hot dog 3 days out of fridge before using it? you mentioned something about seasoning it? season it with garlic or what? should it be chicken, beef or pork hotdog?
+Just Me. Just saw this +Just Me. Yes, leave itt out a few days in a plastic bag or container. Garlic salt is good and I would buy the cheapest hotdogs available. All being said I would get a mixed beef/pork.
Never tried the entire hotdog though. Seems like a 6/0 treble stinger hook would be a must for that set-up. Along with a 8/0 Gamagatzu Circle Hook as your main hook. I'm going to try it both ways and see this weekend when it warms up to the 50's!!! Caught my largest Blue Cat and Channel this time of the year. Hopefully the river isn't to high.
I catch 40+ inch Flathead's all the time using Eagle Claw Catfish rigs or 30lb steel leaders with 1 ounce sinkers attached to a swivel. With a size 5 or 6 Circle hook the setup cost me around a dollar. Don't really need expensive setups to catch big fish. Finally 20+ pound mono is fine if you want to horse the fish but true fisherman enjoy the fight. I use 12lb test and never had a break yet...
You're Welcome caldwell. I don't know if you fish carp but one of the guys let me know he got 3 of the 10 pound class commons on my strawberry/cherry jello flour and cornmeal mix I show.
I've got a swamp behind my house and I haven't fished in it but I know it's deep and There's a lot of woods so what would be a good bait to use in a swamp cause I've seen all types of people us different baits and I want to catch some nice size cats like frying size for my grandma.
Best bait for channel catfish is chicken liver rap it in salmon netting for eggs but the hok in at that time the smell from it atracks the big catfish for some reason if been fishing them for 30 years and it works amazing and it cheap try it you'll love it my biggest catfish from Trenton Ontario Canada is 42 1/2 pounds and Stergin's will take it also sometimes good luck fishing guys and girls
Thank You awesomeyugiohnerd. You're very welcome. Had a young man with his dad that had been trying all summer to catch a Catfish without success and The dad showed him my video. They went out and tried it and the youngster caught a 27 pound cat. It works great.
I use these little sausages , something like 2 inch Slimjims. Channel cats love them, and I've even caught largemouth bass on them. I once tries beef jerky, but the damn bigfoots kept messin with me.
I have questions. Fish this rig on bottom? Or should I use a float? Will the cats play with it or do they hit it hard and take off with it? Also, turtles. Any problems with turtles? Last but not least, what kind of hotdog is best? Thanks....from one fisherman to another.
Growing up hotdogs were always cheap easy to get bait.chicken liver is my fav but hotdogs always did well.
Yes, they are easy to get and priced right.
DocBrewskie do they work for alligator gar?
Sĩ Trí Hải mặc người ta nói
@@omarcantu134 I would think so. Put a little Yum shad scent on them.
A man who makes his own tools is alright in my book! It eliminates part of the corporate and increases the essence of fishing. Kudos!
Dam straight man same here! An that how fishing used to be back then now its all tryna bw as fancy as possible with technology
Remind me to never go swimming without my shorts.
Hahahaha that was great! What a good laugh.
I use to work at locks n dams on ky river, and we did alot of fishing, I had extremely good luck with hotdogs and Vienna sausages right in the spillways, caught huge catfish like 4 feet long, it was fantastic,

Thank You Mike, I always appreciate the feedback. Clayton
This technique is great! I caught 10 Channel's that day using this! The hotdog bait was great! Thanks for this i appreciate!

Thanks, one of the guys said he doesn't like any type of snap swivel but the one you describe would be great.
I didn't see this before. No, I've never tried that but it sounds like a great idea that works. Malt/fermentation all makes sense.
wow, I never seen anyone do this , very good idea thank for sharing!!!
now your a real fisherman i loved watching this video ill be watching all of your others and subscribing.

Really liked your video nice simple easy to see how to set up the rig thank you
You're welcome Pedro. Works Great!
Wow. Great tip! Very unique idea. Will try thanks for sharing

Hope to do just that. It should warm up one of these days. Seems like a late spring.
Ive been doing this for years and it actually works
I've heard that is real good. Haven't tried it but will this summer.
One of the young fellows caught a 27# cat this week using the whole dog. I agree you don't need a huge piece but I think sometimes it makes a difference for a big fish.

1065Olivia You're welcome!
Thank You DeemonChannel. That is very kind of you. I'm glad you caught some good fish with it. Please keep me posted on how you are doing.
Thanks Ryan, I hope you can try the rig soon. Have a Great Year.
Thanks i was wonder8ng how to keep my HD on the hook while bank fishing will give a try

Thanks for the information. The bait threader works great on that too.
Thank You Thomas, It works for cut bait or whole fish and you can size the hook or hooks to the amount of bait you use.
I agree SobeHall,
If a person whips the rod it might fly off but regular casting is fine.
This is a great video!!! Thank you for the tip! Going to try it, and will let you know how well it worked for me.
yeah i cut them into 1 inch pieces and use a treble basically the same way. I don't use snells and i use fresh hotdog not wrotten. Good video i found cooking them let it sit about day or more they are harder to get off and catch fish
Thanks for showing this rig. Can't wait to try it.
Dude nice way to set the hotdog on the line! love the idea very smart.. im a saltwater fisher but its slow in winter...so im gonna go try some blue cats in the river.
Never fished Blue Cats in the winter. Let me know how you do and good luck.
How do you keep the hotdog bun from getting soggy?
Great video!
You are correct about no best bait. Many times people catch a fish on one bait and stick with it. If that's what you use and have confidence in it becomes a go to bait.
That is ingenious. Can't wait to try this!
Thanks Samuel, Let me know how you do.
"Little Bit Ripe" 😂😂😂😂
BEEN SO LONG SINCE I'VE HEARD THAT!!!!!!! LOVE IT MAN! 😂😂😂 GREAT VID!
yeah i actually did this for a while i got bites here and there pretty good but not good in river use ......then i cut a hotdog into little pieces about half and inch and let sit over night in water with chopped garlic and salt, worked real nice/.... NICE VID!
Way to go Alex! That's a great fish. Congratulations.
Thank You Dusty, I have heard of it catching Bass also.
Thanks James, The garlic or molasses are always good scents to add.
Very cool, by chance does any one know if it works on bullheads?
That's a good thing you recommend for huge cat. They will test your terminal tackle especially in current.
That's what I have heard also but a lot of people think otherwise. I'll have to check it out.
Thank you for showing how to thread the hot dog with that metal rod.
Scott, I had reported back on a 21 pound by one fellow and a youngster catching a 27 pound on the whole hot dog. Good luck.
Thank You zoffinger. I like to make some of my lures also and it's a blast to catch a fish on something ya made yourself.

Interesting Nathan. I have never heard of that.
I can imagine they would eat them up quick. Are pirararas good to eat and how big do they get?
Great video. Actually would be a good method for some cut bait.
Iowa, Des Moines River and Storm Lake and this video was at East Okoboji.
A whole hotdog? You must have some mighty big channel cats! wow!
Ha! Yes, I had one fellow use the whole dog and caught a 28# another a 21#. A young fellow caught his first cat, a 27" fish on one. They do like them but you are correct it's not necessary to use the whole dog. Just adjust your hook size to the amount you want to use.

should i make mine long enough to lay on bottom with my noodle or or free float it at different depths

Does it still work if u chop it in half like a slice??? And stick on the hook
أعجبتني الطريقه. وسأجربها هذا الإسبوع بإذن الله. أشكرك جدا
Some people tell me they work better in lakes than rivers. What do you find?
thank you so much for a easy way to catfish I love it..
Would have liked to have seen you catch a fish with that set up.
We all find what works best for us and that's what we should stick with. I guess that's why they make so many kinds of rigs and tackle.
I have heard several people tell of catching bass but use a smaller piece of hot dog bait.
Yes, I like braid unless there are a lot of sharp rocks.
I have had several other people tell of catching bass on hot dogs. I'll give the Aldi's cocktail weiner's a try.
I will do a better quality swivel. Yes, the worm hook has a nice direct pull. I have never gotten onto circle hooks very well. I lose a lot of them.
Thank u for the hotdog trick what tool was that to pull the hook though the hotdog?
I have to agree when im fishing out of my boat i tend to use my ultra light with 4lb test ive brought in a number of 20+ lb cats this way
I catch 40+ inch Flathead's all the time using Eagle Claw Catfish rigs or 30lb steel leaders with 1 ounce sinkers attached to a swivel. With a size 5 or 6 Circle hook the setup cost me around a dollar. Don't really need expensive setups to catch big fish.

Never thought about that.
Thanks for the tip.
I have to try this tech can u put some vids showing your catch?
Thankyou, share your coat hanger rig link for hotdog piercing.👍
Yes, I would definitely think so. I have been waiting for Jeremy Wade to show it on his TV show. LOL
You're Welcome caldwell. I don't know if you fish carp but one of the guys let me know he got 3 of the 10 pound class commons on my strawberry/cherry jello flour and cornmeal mix I show.

What side hook u should use and are treble hooks are ok .
Thank You Jacob, Never had an idea called that before.
Thank You Taivion. Good Luck and let me know how you do.

I didn't see anything wrong with SampsonTha3rd's post. I read it before it was taken off and it was very good information. .
ok we used hotdogs this weekend to fish with we ran lines threw it we cuut them in half and little peices it still came off after sound or thried cast
That surprises me! Could have been the brand. You might lay them out for a few hours before use to toughen up the skin. I'll do a video on that.
how would this work for lake sturgeon? still in a river though
Thank You awesomeyugiohnerd. You're very welcome. Had a young man with his dad that had been trying all summer to catch a Catfish without success and The dad showed him my video. They went out and tried it and the youngster caught a 27 pound cat. It works great.

Thanks Sampson, I have had other people tell me they caught bass on hot dog.
Good luck Alex. Let me know how you do.
I will do a video on those. Also adding garlic is good.
Have you tried hair rigs for catfish?
For really big fish I would agree.
I have questions. Fish this rig on bottom? Or should I use a float? Will the cats play with it or do they hit it hard and take off with it? Also, turtles. Any problems with turtles? Last but not least, what kind of hotdog is best? Thanks....from one fisherman to another.
Good luck and have a Great Year fishing.
Do you have videos of catching with this rig
Worked so good caught a 27 pound catfish
