It Takes a Village - The Making of a Pith Helmet

Explore how Pith Helmets are made. A small guild in Hanoi, Vietnam gather to socialize while building everyone's favorite adventure headwear. Paper thin strips of wood shaved from core (or pith) of the tree are carefully placed on the mold. The helmet is built layer by layer. Excess wood is cut and sanded to give the helmet it's smooth rounded shape. Once the helmet is perfectly shaped, cloth is applied revealing its classic look.
