    This is an updated version of the video "So You Want To Be A Crop Duster. Is It Worth Going to An Ag Aviation School?" ( • So You Want To Be A Cr... ) after our recent experience with a rookie pilot in 2022 who had been through the ag aviation specific program at Riggin Flight Service in SD. It changed my approach and opinion on the matter. We've heard good things about both Riggin Flight Service and Battlefords Airspray but have never experienced them ourselves and are not affiliated with them. Cally is, however, going to Riggin Flight Service for her Private Pilot Certificate this spring so stay tuned!

    While going to a school isn’t required, I also believe that it can be part of a fundamental building block to get into AG flying. Another fast track method for a new pilot to obtain his first AG seat is rarely talked about, but often used across the country. Simply amount to nothing throughout your 20’s, stack dui’s, do time, get addicted to blow, more time, dad bails out everything. 30’s come around, dad will puts you in big yellow airplane, voom, paid, self-made. Last steps: Tell the world that crop dusters aren’t the drunk, drug addicted lunatics that they think we all are by proceeding to the national crop dusters convention and act like drunk, drug addicted lunatics.

      I could have been the poster child for that. I was a screw up after graduating, but my father passed (natural causes) before I figured it out. I always liked flying and was a student but was too busy being a dumb kid to finish getting any ratings. Dad was an AG pilot and instructor with airplanes to fly too. But anyway, I finally straightened up, learned a trade and raised a family. But my folks were great and I deeply regret being a brat "and" not at least getting my private! I'm too old now and health isn't that great anymore, so I guess I have to live vicariously through fellers like Tyson now.

      Sadly today getting a seat as spray pilot is controlled by the insurance companies! They are the down fall of the business!

      @@jhaedtler I believe you. Seems to me Dad struggled with insurance too! He had a hired pilot crack up a brand new Ag Cessna and the hull coverage was dismal!

    Thanks for making these videos! My current plan is to to and join a glider club this summer to see how i like flying before I put thousands towards a ppl and tail wheel plane.

    Love the vid's but wish you would of mentioned some of the other schools maybe even the one you went to instead of just Riggins. Yes I know they are top of the chart for the schools but what about Ag Flight, EV, etc. Keep up the great work Sir

      Thanks for watching John. I didn't talk about any other schools because I've never been to any of them. I went to Flying Tigers and it has since been closed down.

    Simple heater, portable 12 volt plug in works, Thanks for the videos1

    • @oneninerniner3427
      @oneninerniner3427 Год назад

      Not sure, but it could be a 24 volt system. Could be a way to reduce the voltage, but might take some fiddling to make it work. Probably not worth it for the few times needed tho.

    • @jhaedtler
      @jhaedtler Год назад +3

      @@oneninerniner3427 It works fine. I have set this up in a couple of 24 volts systems. You just have to remember to set the heat at half heat for max! I'm old school. I remember when spray planes did not have AC. Now that crap is a no go item!

      Motorcycle heated jacket like the Mosko Moto Ectotherm can run off of a battery pack for about 1 1/2 hours. All the heat you'd ever need.

    Yes definitely depends on insurance. For me there’s 2 paths: flight school or following an insurance appproved syllabus with my mentor. Not sure which route we’re going to take yet.

    • @AgAviationAdventures

      Depends really on the person who is hiring you. But 500 hours with a couple hundred of tailwheel is a general number.
