I have had my X3M40i since March and its puts a smile on my face every time I get in it. I had the previous version X3 35 but the M40i blows it away in luxury, performance, ride & technology.Fantastic car.
Hi Chris! Thanks for a great review! We got our new X3 30d last week and I must say I enjoy the new luxury and techs it has. We stepped down from -17 X5 30d however this new X3 is more quiet, more luxurious and having better performance. Both my wife and myself we enjoy extremely much the 5.8sec acceleration, the quiet but powerful 6 cyl diesel engine sound roaring. What I am impressed about is the quietness and I am happy my car came with acoustic glazing also on the side windows. My car is luxury line however it differs a bit market by market, I guess. What I am missing is the full camera experience since I have only the reverse camera and parking assistant. Anyhow the first impression is really great and I am truly happy for my choice!
Great review. Here in the USA, the gesture control and parking assistant come in the Executive package, so that if you want the nice surround view camera, you have to get these features. Otherwise, I agree with you that I wouldn't pay extra. We've ordered an X3 and looking forward to getting this fantastic well-rounded vehicle.
Nice video. I was going to buy the x5 but when I stepped into the x3 out of curiosity I couldn’t see any difference between the two so bought the x3 instead and saved myself a heap of money
X5 have great comfort seats with much more adjustability as well as more advanced driving assistant. Other than this everything else for me was on x3 side, smaller, more fun to drive, easier to park and to enter European cities...
I love watching testers bungle with the gesture control and then conclude that it doesn't work very good! These advanced features take a month or two of ownership and then become 2nd nature.
hi, which car is family-friendly but also fun to drive? e.g. bmw x3, alfa stelvio, or other competitors.. I would like a used one from about 2017.. The diesel version is very powerful, isn't it, the petrol is quieter, but you have to rotate it.. which is the secret tip? which variation is more reliable to spend the family's saved money on? Thanks
If you don't need or want a 6 cilinder, then the X1 is equaly sized, only with lesser luggage room ( 500l instead of 550l). The X5 however is really much bigger. For my the advantage over the X1 is clearly that fine 6 in line and rear wheel focused car. But from size this is a very compact SUV.
in my case i picked the X3 and looked at others in the same size, the X5 was out because its wider and it would of been to tight for my garage entrance.
X5 looks more luxurious, but if you buying used or not warranty car, the maintenance and service price for x3 twice cheaper, so made it more practical.
Looking at the 20/21 models (or Q5) and appreciate the detailed overview. I was originally considering an X5, which used to have more space advantages. But you answered that question. I swear the new X3 seems almost same size as the second gen X5. Still debating the turbo 6 Vs 4 (petrol), but I’m not racing this thing and have a convert 335 already. I think this is about same width and length?
@@justanotherguy4339 I got a fairly loaded X3 4. The size is just right for family of 3 (2+teenager) and in sport mode it's got satisfactory performance matched to its suspension capabilities. That's partly because I have topless 335 in the garage to take care of those needs. It was a good practical purchase to cover (great) local drives, Bay Area commutes, road trips and ski weekends. BUT - If I didn't have the 335, I would definitely go for the M40 version. Also, 2 years in the car has had zero issues ... I was surprised yesterday to see BMW in top 3 of consumer reports reliability ratings.
The answer is no. The x5 is way better and more comfortable to drive. I bought a fully loaded x3. Took it back the same week and bought a fully loaded x5. There is no comparison. The x3 is nice, but is definitely not as luxurious as the x5.
Mario Stinger does it do automatic rev matching on downshifts like in sport mode of some Mercs? Love that sound of throttle blipping on downshift. Drove an Audi SQ5 and it doesn’t have that rev matching on downshifts which was quite disappointing.
Few questions: 1. Are head rests adjustable on the front seats (or fixed for safety like on a Volvo)? 2. Are rear head rests foldable as an option (like on a Volvo) or only adjustable vertically? 3. Are the rear seats adjustable (inclination) like on a Subaru SUV ? It is very important feature for long distance trip! 4. Are rear seats sun shades available at all? 5. Can you order optional 4 zone air cone with rear seats vents available? 6. What is ground clearance? Is it above 20 cm to call it real SUV with some off road capabilities? 7. How efficient are the driver assist technologies (keep lane, adaptive cruise, automatic braking? Best regards!
Hi! 1. Yes they are adjustable on heigh and also back&forth. 2. In Europe only the rear head rest in the center is manually foldable, the ones in the sides are only adjustable vertically. In US all of them are manually foldable. Not even extra option to be automatically foldable. 3. Rear seat adjustable (inclination) is available as an extra option. 4. Rear seats sun shades are available as an extra option. 5. 4 zones is not available, only 3 zone is available and its is included for all from the base model, it is not an extra option. 6. Ground clearance is 20.4 cm (204 mm), at least for xDrive 20d (which I have). 7. Sorry I haven't those options, so I could not try them. Best regards.
EU advertised prices by law include all taxes, delivery, fees etc... it's an 'on the road' price. I know the US doesn't include those in the ticket price, not sure if Canada is the same?
@@CarManiac_Chris ya, I feel the same way. I dont really like the way the BMW dash looks - it almost has a 90's vibe. Everything about the Mercedes is beautiful. The BMW is better at actually driving though. Plus it's a few thousand dollars cheaper.
Parking assist, accstic glass and others for me it doesn't need to deny it from X3, bcz BMW just showing the "brain" of the X3, so when those "brain" disappear from X3, u better buy Mitsubishi or Toyota for more cheaper

acoustic glazing is the best thing you can have for no money. it makes such a nice atmosphere inside like you are in a nice living room.

This is such a fantastic review and reviewer. All the important real world information, no bullshit. Really informative and a good watch.

Acoustic glass option is worth every penny... I don't understand skipping it if it's sound isolation and NVH control is a hallmark of luxury cars..
X3 x30i love it. Though it isn’t my m240i it handles and moves well in sport mode. I have the brown leather and really love the seats.

U can put the seat higher. Just push the setting button upwards.

The camera system is class leading.. amazing stuff
Great Review! As always keep up the good and customer oriented approach!

I am confused, why is it showing on camera a 3 or 5 series and not x3?

Not sure which color to use can someone help me please? We are thinking about
Mineral White metallic or the Phytonic Blue.
in my case i picked the X3 and looked at others in the same size, the X5 was out because its wider and it would of been to tight for my garage entrance.
Excellent review, but this is the 2018 model (no difference) except the badging is below the tail-lights for 2019.
Enjoy the review! What's your opinion? Is the X5 worth additional 10.000€ or is the X3 the perfect alternative??
Car Mania The interior quality of the X5 alone justifies the additional money.
What will you do with this interior quality on the X5? What are specific features which make a difference?
Car Mania I have 2018 BMW X3 2.0 engine and I love it. If I had to spend 10k more, I would buy the BMW X3 3.0 engine instead of buying BMW X5..
Depends where you live. In Europe x5 is humongous and hard to drive. If I would live in US I might go for x5, in Europe x3 seems a better choice.
X5 looks more luxurious, but if you buying used or not warranty car, the maintenance and service price for x3 twice cheaper, so made it more practical.
Does it really show a 7 Series when put in reverse...?
that key can not start the AC remotely. Its a belt driven AC, no engine running, no AC
You can start the engine with the key, and even move the car back/forwards when it's in a tight parking spot, so the AC would come on too.

Okay wow chill man with the gesture control. 😢 you’re way to wavy and fast for it. 😂
The funny thing is, it show the 7 series bmw in the camera system instead of the x3. lol
If I wanted to spend the extra 15k I'd go for the M40i version of the X3 instead of the X5.
Disagree, the gesture control is actually very good. If you took the time to learn how to use it, you’d agree.
Do you mind if I ask you how tall you are coz I want to know how big is the car 😁

First testdrive an X3 without the aquostic windows before deleting this option, huge difference in noice level. My advise, do not delete.

Love it how he’s in the X3 but the reversing camera shows a saloon car
I have the X5 but considering the X3 something little smaller and sporty
Great review
beautiful car!
Nice
I can’t believe the price difference. The 2018 X3 starts at $48000 Can. Convert in euro it’s 31300 EUR.
EU advertised prices by law include all taxes, delivery, fees etc... it's an 'on the road' price. I know the US doesn't include those in the ticket price, not sure if Canada is the same?
Well, it is made in US. Taxes plus delivery add to that. But BMW is pricing as much as they can get. And Europe is ready to pay more.
X3 30d mSport is the best buy SUV...
I can't decide between X3 and GLC300.
Well the thing is: the Mercedes looks a bit more special but I like the BMW more. Especially from the interior with the new model.

@@n4870s a Subaru Forester. The interior seemed just as nice, and it was 50% of the price
X3
Not sure, from all the vehicles in the category, Stelvio is the only one that doesn't look like an oversized family car.
Yes it does. That’s actually the ugliest SAV because these aren’t SUV’s but are sav’s

A bit too wordy mate. Ahh…ahh… and we get it.. it looks like a 5.
two things for me..gas, telescope, and side mirrors that close automatic..for woman.
