Which implies the making of a fighting game involving 151 characters, with individual stats, animations, matchup knowledge and so on, while it would put back Elementary RPS in the game, making Charizard in this matchup being at a terrible disadvantage. And on top of that, you'd make a level-up system, making my Blastoise completely different to yours, like being faster than mine for example, because of the stat potions and rare candies that you could apply.

now that i think about it...you're right, that's dumb.
but maybe you can adjust the multipliers for weaknesses ? and potions can't be used in battle , and pokemon stats are changed fit the fighting genre.

@@rodnie3903 As much as genre merging is a good thought experiment, there's some genres that cannot be blent without both genres lacking.
Pokémon is about exploring and collecting. The turn-based part of the battles are here for a specific purpose, which is to make the rest of the game, exploring and collecting, more appealing to the gameplay.
Fighting games are viscerally about the battles, and only the battles. Devs spend months in tuning specific values in and out, as one frame of difference in an animation can result in a bunch of new things, which are amplified by matchup knowledge, and the players ability to read and condition their opponent.
There's tons of things that is within Pokémon's DNA, that Pokkén had to get rid of, because it conflicted to the genre. Elemental RPS, being the biggest problem here. Because when you have 4 attacks for each of the 6 Pokémons in a team to work with, turn-based is super handy. Imagine the nightmare to control a team of 6 characters in a fighting game, when some have inherent weaknesses against others, no matter how well you play. Yeesh...
