It'll still show up briefly when you start up the device, but once ArkOS takes over the light will go out. - If you have a USB keyboard, you can connect it via USB-C adapter and press ESC while playing a PSP game with the PPSSPP standalone emulator; this will bring you to the main menu. From there, you can go into Settings > Controls > Control Mapping and set the "Pause" function to L2. Now when you press L2 it will bring up the main menu, so you can make per-game adjustments. - Also with a USB keyboard, you can press the "M" key while in a Nintendo DS game to bring up the DraStic menu, and choose "Change controls" > Extra controls to change the menu button from L3 to something accessible on the R33S. Because L2 and R2 are already used by DraStic to swap screens, I have been using the Volume Up button to access the menu. It's not very elegant since you now can't turn up the volume while in the game, but now you can access the menu to save/load states and adjust the other configuration options. - If you don't have a USB keyboard but you do have an R35S, R36S, or Anbernic RG351MP, you can use the same TF1/SD1 card to launch ArkOS on those devices, then press L3 to bring up their respective menus, adjust the controls, and then put the card back in your R33S. - To try out the latest ArkOS or AmberELEC on this device, flash the latest RG351MP build of either OS and then replace the dtb files with these: github.com/AeolusUX/R36S-DTB

Yup, 35XX for 35$ and the plus for 55$ are the best deals. R36 at 45€ is also a pretty good deal if searching for good performance and analogs, knowing that there would be compromises on build quality, inferior dpad/buttons and higher hardware failure rates.

I have the miyoo mini original, miyoo mini plus and the powkiddy rgb30. I love all three but I really like Onion OS and I think my favorite has to be the og Miyoo Mini. It's just so pocketable.
With custom software, you could probably change the hotkey, but it does mean that it doesn't have a reset button at that point and on top of that, the words will always be on the case until you find a way to scrub them off harmlessly. So, yeah, that's a pretty lame "feature".
From the second I heard about this device I thought it was strange. The R36S makes sense. More powerful than a Miyoo mini, cheaper, and it has thumbsticks. Those could make me overlook a mediocre OS. The R33S though? Currently it's more expensive than a Miyoo, has an OS with less quality of life features, and the power advantage it has on the Miyoo is mostly wasted because it doesn't have thumbsticks. Even if it had one thumbstick it would be a more interesting proposition. It's just a device that feels like it doesn't really fit a niche. I don't know why anyone would pick the R33S over the R36S. The pocketability is the only advantage. I imagine if they manage to get it on Aliexpress it might be cheaper than the R36S, but when you are already talking about $40 devices, how much cheaper do people need?
6:46 Interesting that your Miyoo Mini + has silent triggers and S/S buttons, because those buttons on my Miyoo Mini + sound more like your R33S. Seems like mileage may vary in build quality even amongst handhelds of the same brand and model.
There should be a rubber membrane on the trigger buttons that helps to dampen the sound. However, my Star and Select have a bit of click sound to them, but nothing as bad as what he showed the R33S trigger buttons to be.
I keep seeing people comparing between different versions. Like that the V4 screen isn't as good as the prior ones. It wouldn't be surprising if that was true for other parts as well. Just speculation.
I've noticed a friend of mine has Miiyoo Mini Plus and when I tried it, the buttons kept getting stuck from time to time. One of my Anbernic's has light bleed too. So I think each device might have quality issues of various degrees big and small. The quality control will never be something like a Nintendo or Sony, so I never expect too much from it.
I can already see after seconds in the video, how cheap the plastic looks. Nah bro, just buy the Miyoo. Those 10bucks difference wont make or break it.
That 42 second boot time, wasn't the prank the Ark OS creator Did when they stole HIS work the first time? ATT isn't Cristian working with them? And that is Just a older IMG?

So you're upset that a new company (that allows you to play illegal roms on a device) stole from a more while know company (that allows you to play illegal roms on a device) 😂😂😂🤣🤣 You know if Nintendo, Sony, Sega, Atari, etc. wanted they can shut all these bootleg companies down. This just seems like a petty video coming from you. Moral values don't come into play when it comes to illegal devices.
The only thing this system has going for it is the extra power and if you wanted that, you'd be better off just getting an Anbernic RG35XX Plus at the given price. Yeah... this thing is pretty pointless.
Hard pass. The sole purpose for the Miyoo Mini is the stellar experience you get with OnionOS. I could get behind the R36S cause it had sticks and was insanely cheap but big no for this one.
I feel like a decent chunk of the community is getting pretty sick of these derivative "barely runs pico games" handhelds. Every time a company comes out with a new handheld that eeks closer to the minimum spec for 100% GC/PS2 playability, 50 more underpowered ewaste devices are released and reviewed/hyped by shills rather than the OEM focusing on the software side. Pretty hard to get excited about "new" devices coming out when almost no strides are being made for power to performance increases in the budget space.
Miyoo potentially suing over “ripping off their design” is so ironic lmao I love the Miyoo Mini, but we all know that it’s design borrows HEAVILY from the gameboy, not to mention the fact that Anbernic also made a VERY similar device. On top of that it’s hilarious that literally the entire point of these things is to play games that were most likely acquired illegally… 😂 It truly is the Wild West out here in the world of handheld emulation lol
So marginal performance boost over MM+ with worse build quality... and the r36s exists for a few dollars more? This device is essentially e-waste in 2024.
They really need to go back to the think sf100 the SNES gampad style. Make it a little larger, add stereo speakers. Give it a little love, not tiny buttons or d-pad on lower section, add a good chip and would sell great. PS F Amazon yes i love scams or just to pay 5-50 bucks more for the same dam thing just so i can have some unmarked white van with out of state plates drive down my driveway behind my house when i didn't even order anything thank god the kids were not playing outside at the time at his speed sure would have hit one of them.
Interesting device, though the complete rip off of someone else's design is always unpleasant to see. In the other hand... I would really like to have a clone of the "small" miyoo mini, for availability reasons .. and I get that also for the cloning company it would be hard to find the screens that miyoo themselves can't source, but even with a worst resolution (for cheaper) I'd buy it just for the pocket ability
I had this issue with the MM+ but bought a grip for it. Much, much better but it's just sinking more money into it. Wish they would make better horizontal players that weren't a lot more expensive usually
@@pailvengence3 35xxh? (dumb name I know) personally the 35XX form factor is fine for me and I have pretty big hands. these 2 smaller ones seem a bit too small for my taste though (but I've never held one)

Miyoo suing the company is a load of bollocks. As most of these consoles and many parts and board they use are made by white label companies. And not only there is one white label companies sometimes there are multiple white label companies which sells the same thing and these white label companies source certain parts from other white label companies. Now I am quite aware of the things of manufacturing and how they happen in China, but I can't comment on the legal procedures about this in China.
Damn, I'd honestly really love a RK3326 powered Miyoo Mini, such a shame that they botched what should've been a slam-dunk! I think of all things, it's that Reset button that's the killer. Why on earth does it need a reset button, let alone removing one of the most important buttons for it?
I'm all for emulation, I have been doing it for years. The consoles I have owned in the past, snes, n64, gamecube, gb, gbc, gba, ps1, ps2, dreamcast, etc. I no longer have physical access to all those games. It's nice being able to emulate on the phone or on one of my emulation devices. But for any company to accuse another company for stealing their design when these are devices intended to play copies of games these handheld companies had no part in developing... Come on...lol
Nah, emulation doesn't even factor into it. It's just the fact that they're all stealing the system's design and concept, and likely a lot of the hardware from other companies to make their devices, while pretending they're somehow different, that makes it hilarious to me. Granted, I will say that the fact that they literally include ROMs with your purchase does make your point a little more salient. You can't argue that piracy isn't the point when you literally sell the ROMs of games you don't own with the system.

anyone know the footprint of those LEDs?
Tell that to Nintendo. All of their DS models had visible LEDs from the front and I've always found it annoying.
I mean, I get it, you can't see the power level from the top of the system because you're never looking at it, but that doesn't make it any less annoying and distracting while playing games.
The Switch popping up a notification in the software was always the better solution, imo.
You can switch it to red to make it less annoying.
JELOS will support this device in our next release. And we turn off the LED in the software :)
Do you also do the R36S?
@@DamianoTassone Not currently but I think someone is working on adding support for that device and wants to merge it into JELOS. I don't own one to test on.
What about the XU10? I find it better in every way to the R36S but the firmware (and it's more expensive). The Buttons are all so much better and it's more comfotable, but the firmware is quite terrible.
nice
@@schneeleopard6813 We already added xu10 in the last release. I would wait for the next one though. There have been several bug fixes and improvements queued.
I mean... aren't they all Rip-off devices lol. They're great but like they are all ripping off of someone.
Precisely. They're literally Chinese knockoffs, but they're the rare exception to others in that they actually offer something you can't really get from the originals in this case, as they are decent-quality handheld emulation machines.
But the notion that their knockoffs should be protected is absurd. They're all lazy idea-nabbing thieves.
funny how chinese who are cloning american and european brands, now suffer from clones of their own products xD
Oh that is just how markets work, copy what works, we even have a term for companies&organizations also doing what others do: isomorphism.
"Now" suffering? Anbernic's RG35XX was a ripoff of the Miyoo Mini Plus, just with a slightly larger form-factor. The only reason they didn't really complain (or maybe they did, idk and idgaf) is because it was just slightly substantial enough of a difference.
This device is just such a blatant copy of the Miyoo Mini Plus and... that's fine by me. If you're gonna rip off Nintendo's properties, others are going to rip off you and there's jack shit you can say about it.
I say let the Chinese fight each other, we as customers get a better product in the end thanks to this competition. @@Lucifronz
I don't see much point in this. Honestly, the MM+'s strength was always the custom firmware, not the hardware
Also Wifi ended up being the MM+'s secret weapon for longevity, best system for Native Pico-8 this side of the RGB30.
nah its also always been the hardware. i mean the size is basically the selling point. the software can be slapped on even a 35xx

R33S isn't worth the effort, too many issues. Miyo Mini Plus or RG35XX are much better and worth of every cent you would spent for them
It is a rip-off, true, but you can't beat dual sd cards
legal concerns, from companies that ship with ROMs
It's funny, the Miyoo Mini Plus I got off Amazon a while back during that sale you linked came with the exact same hardshell case and accessories [Minus the crummy earbuds]
Russ hit A when you're going up the ramp in Sonic Adventure 2. Every time you play test that game and dont hit the trick I want to scream😂
I'll jump on the ramp in tomorrow's video just for you :)
@@RetroGameCorps oh heck yeah thanks lol! I think you need to hit jump exactly halfway up the ramp for him to do the flip! Thanks for the reply Russ!
Got the Ambernic RG35XX for $34. other than the lack of WiFi found on the MM+ its a much better deal than a lot of these clones.
Yup, 35XX for 35$ and the plus for 55$ are the best deals.
R36 at 45€ is also a pretty good deal if searching for good performance and analogs, knowing that there would be compromises on build quality, inferior dpad/buttons and higher hardware failure rates.
Ouch, Russ pulling no punches with that title.
It comes with the exact same case my Miyoo Mini Plus came in a few weeks ago.
I got my Miyoo Mini Plus for $45. Unless this goes $30 or under, I don't see any reason to get this as the MMP goes on sale around the same price as this.
Yep got my mm+ for 48$ so there's not point of getting this one unless it's considerably cheaper
Mm+ is avg $70-80
I bought a MM+ yesterday from AliExpress £40 after tax (slightly less actually)
The best thing about Miyoo is the community
The best thing about any handheld is the community. Modders and software wizards have saved Anbernic's lack of support countless times.
@@skycloud4802 I own both. miyoo got it better
@@skycloud4802 100%. I got hooked on console configuration with a modded OG Xbox and what I loved most then was the focus and determination of the modding community. I actually signed up for a Steam Deck during presales because I knew it would have a strong community - lo and behold the community has produced really quality addons. For something like a retro handheld, the product can live and die based on community inclusion.
@@skycloud4802 100%. To the point at which I’m pretty sick of Anbernic…
Same for all cheap handheld companies. Anbernic specific but also powkiddy and so on
i have a miyoo mini plus and an upgraded onion card theyre making these hand helds and clones quicker than i can buy them crazy time to be alive this is my new hobby.
I've been waiting years for this, dream come true, glad it's from cheap affordable Chinese companies too.
all i will say is all the handhelds ive got dont feel cheap ive got a selection of anbernics and ive got to view a tutorial on setting up the retroid pocker 2 + only have android games on it at present.@@suhtangwong
I have the miyoo mini original, miyoo mini plus and the powkiddy rgb30. I love all three but I really like Onion OS and I think my favorite has to be the og Miyoo Mini. It's just so pocketable.
That is the worst possible spot for a reset button.
With custom software, you could probably change the hotkey, but it does mean that it doesn't have a reset button at that point and on top of that, the words will always be on the case until you find a way to scrub them off harmlessly.
So, yeah, that's a pretty lame "feature".
@@Lucifronz reset keys are usually hardware level I think. They work before software is booted. I don’t think you can change that with software.
@@Lucifronz nah its not mapped to a gpio, it physically cuts power to the system.
I imagine if they manage to get it on Aliexpress it might be cheaper than the R36S, but when you are already talking about $40 devices, how much cheaper do people need?
lol I think Milo copy from some company called Nintendo. It funny Chinese company asking legal help when they are also copy others
Damn why the RS company doesn't copy the RGB20 original design.

Those earbuds remind me of the old iPhone/iPod ones. 😂
White colorway is absolutely nuts 🥜
Is this just a worse R36S?
yes
It's a R36S without sticks. That's pretty much it.
Whatever size and form factor, I'm just really thankful for these devices.
I got to play my old and relatively newer games in a convenient way.
It would be funny to Nintendo sue them both. You don't want to enter in a legal dispute with the Big N.
I absolutely love my R36S, so I'm really hoping to get one of these. Sure, it's not for everyone. I don't mind adjusting the dpad, and updated firmware fixes tons of issues.
I really hope they make a R36SH also 😁
I get the feeling you haven't tried any other handhelds.
@@JD96893I'd tell you not to trust your feelings then. 😉
@@JD96893I E got several, and the r36s is amazing. Prefer it over mm+ and s deck for retro games.
This machine sucked I sent it back to Amazon . The d pad was crap and the games were hit and miss. I just sent it back and got a 405m much better handheld. Btw the miiyoo mini plus is my fav vertical oh yeah I hated the back buttons on that crappy machine
RK3326, the chip that never dies

Oh the irony of Miyoo suing Datafrog for copying their device.
Does it run .jar games?
So you're upset that a new company (that allows you to play illegal roms on a device) stole from a more while know company (that allows you to play illegal roms on a device) 😂😂😂🤣🤣
You know if Nintendo, Sony, Sega, Atari, etc. wanted they can shut all these bootleg companies down.
This just seems like a petty video coming from you. Moral values don't come into play when it comes to illegal devices.
Seems like the R36S is better in every way. Especially price and 2 joysticks
The only thing this system has going for it is the extra power and if you wanted that, you'd be better off just getting an Anbernic RG35XX Plus at the given price.
Yeah... this thing is pretty pointless.
@@Lucifronzthis system is a R36S without sticks, so more power than the RG35XX+ I believe.
Hard pass. The sole purpose for the Miyoo Mini is the stellar experience you get with OnionOS. I could get behind the R36S cause it had sticks and was insanely cheap but big no for this one.
it starts at 55usd in the Philippines.
Miyoo potentially suing over “ripping off their design” is so ironic lmao
I love the Miyoo Mini, but we all know that it’s design borrows HEAVILY from the gameboy, not to mention the fact that Anbernic also made a VERY similar device. On top of that it’s hilarious that literally the entire point of these things is to play games that were most likely acquired illegally… 😂
It truly is the Wild West out here in the world of handheld emulation lol
How do people play on these small devices? My hands cramp on a RG35XX+
I had this issue with the MM+ but bought a grip for it. Much, much better but it's just sinking more money into it.
Wish they would make better horizontal players that weren't a lot more expensive usually
That new Powkiddy RGB10Max30 (phew) for $70 rn is a steal and would be a great budget handheld for large handed folks.
@@pailvengence3 35xxh? (dumb name I know)
personally the 35XX form factor is fine for me and I have pretty big hands. these 2 smaller ones seem a bit too small for my taste though (but I've never held one)
Seriously, who is going to buy this with all these compromises? You lost me at crappy shoulder buttons. Looks so bad to play. Just spend a few more dollars and skip the headache.
i like my rg36s from this company, whoever they are.. but yeah this is a exact copy and i dont love that.
Miyoo suing the company is a load of bollocks. As most of these consoles and many parts and board they use are made by white label companies. And not only there is one white label companies sometimes there are multiple white label companies which sells the same thing and these white label companies source certain parts from other white label companies.
Now I am quite aware of the things of manufacturing and how they happen in China, but I can't comment on the legal procedures about this in China.
lol they probably made from the same factory in China, using the shell but just different internal component
“2019”
“Around for some time”
First of all how dare you make me realize 2019 was 5 years ago.
Miyoo: what happened to all our cases we bought from you guys?
Manufacturer: uhh... Idk???...
Damn, I'd honestly really love a RK3326 powered Miyoo Mini, such a shame that they botched what should've been a slam-dunk! I think of all things, it's that Reset button that's the killer. Why on earth does it need a reset button, let alone removing one of the most important buttons for it?
Just went to Amazon from your link and it's already unavailable.
Whenever I check things like this it's sold out within minutes of the video being posted
The all white version of this looks amazing but no way im paying 90 for it. Can't find it for less
Should've named it r34s, literally the mini version of r36s but without analogs
Is 80 good for Miyoo mini plus
USD?
That seems too expensive.
10~ reviews of r33s now and no one compared miyoo and r33s screen quality -_-
Need something PSP sized with an HDR screen, access to retroarch and good CRT shaders. Would eat that up
Is Amazon actually more disreputable than aliexpress at this point in time? lol.
You can't argue that piracy isn't the point when you literally sell the ROMs of games you don't own with the system.
hope this pisses miyoo off enough for them to start building miyoo mini plus with analog sticks.
Hey. I'm losing my mind. I have a Retroid Pocket 3+. I want a vertical form handheld. I play N64 sometimes, but not essential. What do I buy? RG35XX, Miyoo Mini + or R36s.

How can you call any of these a rip-off? lol, every one of these companies has ripped off someone. Why don't you get your own discord Russ? I just bought a miyoo mini plus I'm going to be giving away when I launch my new handheld discord.
