[Acrylic] Soft Gels for Blending, Collage Adhesion, Glazing, and Texture

Soft Gels are thinner than Heavy Body Colors. They can be mixed with acrylic colors to produce a brilliant glaze. Soft gels can be used as a base for wet blending or as an adhesive for collage.
Gel Mediums offer many ways to build texture. GOLDEN offers five consistencies from our most viscous Extra Heavy Gel to Soft Gel. Each gel is available in Gloss, Semi-Gloss and Matte finishes. They can be used to create glazes, extend paint and change finishes. Gels are essentially colorless paint, as they use the same 100% acrylic polymers as acrylic paint. Gels are also excellent adhesives for collage and mixed media, they dry with excellent flexibility with chemical, water and UV resistance.

AGREE! Apart from Light Molding Paste I've largely avoided trying mediums because I really need to SEE what each one excels at. How else would I know what could really be useful... in MY work?

I really love the soft gel matte for collaging inkjet prints. They retain the paper quality.

Can you mix gloss and matte or is that a bad idea?

Hello PA - that is NOT a bad idea at all, as it is essentially our Semi-Gloss product. By mixing Gloss and Matte you are simply diluting the matting solids in the Matte Gel - the challenge in that is mixing thoroughly so you get a consistent sheen through out the application of the mixture (assuming that's what you want) but it is just another way you can control the exact level of sheen you're looking for.
