I live in France so have to speak it almost daily, however it is not easy. I sometimes come away from a conversation with my head in my hands after making a big gaff. But more often it is just a small gaff and I was still understood. Sometimes I get home after a meeting with a bureaucrat and can truly say 'hey, I actually do speak French'. It is so worth it and I still do daily lessons like Duolingo or Comme Une Francaise.
Magnifique vidéo Géraldine ! 😊 Something my Students find useful is building up a really good listening level by watching French tv shows, movies, RUclips videos with the French subtitles on. By doing this, they are reading what is being said as the video plays. It allows them to not feel pressured into understanding 100% of the French audio. Putting heaps of pressure on yourself to understand everything right away is a CRAZY expectation - especially if you can't speak French yet! Simply build up slowly using French subtitles and 1 video by 1 video, you will increase your level. 30-60 mins per day is all it takes to understand well in 3-6 months. All day long when I am at home, I am immersed in the French language - even more than when I am actually in France! Sometimes I listen intently to understand, but much of the time I am just letting the sounds and rhythms of the language acclimate my ears. Oh, and in my car, I play Aznavour, Brel, Bécaud and others on heavy rotation. Merci pour vos vidéos.

When I was a French teacher for high school students here in the U.S. you helped me create better lesson plans and also helped me to maintain my French for work outside the classroom. Now I work from home teaching Business English to French professionals all over France. I’m beginning to watch French cinema more and more because I need to expand my vocabulary. This video is GOLD.

@@micheleg.2244 In Paris they have clear accents but speak to quickly as everyone is in a hurry they wont spend time trying to help you. The hardest accent for me is near Spain where they have the Spanish th and a twang so Dordoyne (pron) sounds more like Dordongya. That is where I live so I am used to it now.

I think she is referring to the letters you don’t hear in spoken french but are in written french
I've started making and using flash cards, based on email content between my French cousins and me.
It is an impossible language to understand...my reading and writing is C1 and my listening comprehension is still A1

Is there any part of France where the accent is considered more "standard" ?
I find they speak clearly in Northern France. However, if you say you don't understand they will either slow down or say something in a different way.
