Writer here! 🙋 I've long thought that for me, walking into a cluttered room is sort of the same as walking into a house where the TV's on, the radio's playing, someone's shouting at a video game, a siren's going by outside, and everyone else is having conversations all around me. It's so much visual noise!
“Clutter basically is a lot of unmade decisions” omg Kay this is so freaking true! I’ve never thought about it in that way. Thank you for this insight. Brilliant 🙂
I'm a general/vocal music teacher with a passion for sewing/yarncrafts. I find that when my workspaces are tidy I am so inspired. Sometimes I'll avoid the area but if I go it and put things in their places it really inspires me--and prevents me from shopping for more supplies! As my music teaching has gone more digital I realize I need to pare down on my physical teaching resources. A lot of the older materials I don't use anymore and I can't find a good space to put them. My non-musician husband and 3 kids have taken up music too now, and we are becoming over-run with instruments. That's something I'm not sure how to tackle since new things come in the house frequently (piano, organ, bass guitars, other guitars, guittarron-mariachi, violin, trumpet, multiple Uke's). Now that I type it I understand why it's a struggle!
I am a professional singer and I teach violin, viola and cello to 4th and 5th graders! I also have a professional Reiki Healing office here in Kansas City so I do lots of different things like you! I love your channel. I have been watching for YEARS and am so proud of your growth in ALL that you do. Thanks for another great video
Eeeee, I feel like this video was made specifically for me! I'm currently heading into rehearsal five days a week for three different operas - stage director on all three, and singing in one of them, too - and already feel like I'm drowning. I needed exactly this: ways to organize a musician's life! ✨
I thought I was the only one! The more stuff I SEE, especially if it's not where it belongs, the more I have to think about it. That's on top of a racing brain that's always thinking (and over-thinking) anyway. It gets me to the "hard drive memory is full" point and I can't function.
Good morning, Kay! Our whole family enjoyed the Saint Matthew Passion at Emanuel on Sunday…(three adult children +spouses in addition to my husband and myself) we can’t stop thinking about it. It was wonderful ! We think we may have seen you!🥰
Loved this video! I'm a content creator. Used to be a singer and piano player. I craft some, I garden some now. I'd like to get back to writing at some point....
My husband is the musician in the family and sang Opera for 2 years professionally. Now he teaches all kind of music and theater and can play all band instruments. His office is always neater than mine and I am a CPA and when we go out people realize he is the more structured of the two of us. lol
All kinds of useful information here. I've got some magazine files in my office to hold notes and journals and you're right...way easier to look at on the shelf. I'm going to look at those portable nebulizers, too. Thanks, Kay
❤ 💯 🎒. I have one for my doctor appointments which are a lot since I am 8 year cancer survivor (9 year next month). Another one for exercise. ☺️ 🎒. 👍 magazine files . I have several ones in my book shelf to hold thin books . ❤ my iPad I scanned articles anything else which is better than keeping them in a binder.
Scheduling a specific hour of the day, like 11am, 7pm, feels too restrictive for me. Instead I schedule periods of time, like Monday morning, Thursday evening. It's more flexible and I don't feel guilty if I procrastinate a little.
I had sheet music going back to my great grandparents in the late 1800s, mostly popular music hall songs. You could see the music each if us bought when we were teenagers/early 20s with disposable money before bills kicked in! I had to down size some. Still have quite a bit of it, but offering it to nieces and nephews. I try and keep choral music alphabetised. Like you magazine file with folder for current music. But I've paredback my fun music, I just dont play much. This is far less organised.
Totally sharing this with my musician friends!! Also...points for the Bach/Moose t-shirt. Q: There's two moose singing a Latin text, one is singing quietly, the other is not. What do you call the 2nd one? A: the "louder-moose!"
Trumpet player here....I seriously can not function with clutter anywhere. Even my closets have to be highly organized or it messes me up. Anxiety is an understatement when anything is out of place.
Flutist here🙋🏾♀️ I graduated with my Master’s in Flute Performance last year. Even though I scanned majority of my music on my IPad for practicing, my teacher was very adamant about keeping physical copies of music in binders. I found this to be useful while performing, but not a great way to organize my music. Do you have a way to organize single sheets of music? Or would you recommend those magazine files for them as well?
Congrats on your Master's! I don't keep a lot of single sheets anymore but I have a few single sheets in a binder with holes? It's kind of a pain to keep them, but I have like maybe 10 isolated pieces with tab flags so I can find them. I recently scanned them lol But if you must keep physical copies, the same system that worked in the early 2000s still works.
I'm a musical loser. In seven years of music school I couldn't overcome the barrier between me and piano. I graduated thanks to the choirmistress who needed a workhorse in 2nd.
Don’t talk to yourself like that 😭 Piano is so hard and requires a ton of coordination! As long as you are still living and breathing you still have time to practice ❤️
All the music-y stuff is over here! www.youtube.com/@kaypattersonvlogs
Yay, music-y stuff! Just subbed. I so desperately miss my own voice lessons. Stupid Covid messed up EVERYTHING.
@@Yesica1993 I am also sad about how much covid ruined everything! It was a tough couple of years but we're back!!!

I feel more creative when my home is tidy.
Visual chaos gives me an “unofficial” (for lack of a better term) to-do list that stresses me out!
I’m a sewist; enjoy quilting and other sewing projects. Your suggestions for organizing can definitely be transferred to my situation. Thank you, Kay.

I really enjoyed this video.❤
I am a choral conductor and I am drowning in sheet music. THANK YOU!! This video is fantastic!
Wow. Your voice is absolutely beautiful. How can you hold that note🙌🏼💜🥰🥰🥰

Portable steam vapor for your voice?! I didn't know such a thing existed!
I just found you today, and I really like your style. You are the best!
I loved to see this whole different version of you. I also loved to hear you sing. It was a great video.
I play piano. I really enjoyed this video. I have a bookshelf full of music too and have been trying to figure out how to organize it better.
Sharing with my creative friends.
I'm a dancer. Love the triage analogy. If it's bleeding out do something stat!!!
We attend concerts in the Boston area and would love to know where you perform. We recently attended a Bach cantata at Emanuel..
I sing there sometimes 🥰 my concert calendar is on my website. I’d love to meet you

I draw comics and tap dance. I know that's a weird combo, but whatever. Thank you for the video it was helpful.
I recently moved into my inlaw's house to care for them, and their clutter threshold is everything everywhere. My stress is out of control

A lot of these tips also apply to freelancers 😃
Hey Superstar!!
I love your shirt!!! (Yes, I'm a music nerd LOL)
👀 I love that shirt 😂

I am both creative and organized, and always have been. Stereotypes get a bad reputation for a reason.
I am a wannabe creative, often hindered by the guilt of seeing clutter around me. :/
