The most heartbreaking thing here is, realizing that the story of the wounded veteran left to beg on the streets by his country, is perhaps the oldest war story of them all.
In HBO's Rome TV show, one of the main characters is a centurion who goes to this temple of Mars so he can re enlist as a special kind of veteran, and hes surrounded by the crippled and maimed survivors of Romes war, who beg in the temple and salute him.
Firstly it's a marching song secondly shanties not chanteys and it is not a 2021 song because it was referenced as early as 1780 obviously with changes to the conflicts it protrais
I really enjoy this song but I showed this to my mother who is a mom to 6 sons... she broke down crying and it made me have a very sober appreciation for the young men who have fallen for their countries. All men of uniform on any side should be mourned for the simple reason that they are all sons... or maybe even husbands, fathers, and brothers
i am speechless, yes i do honor every last one of them and im glad to hear that my video made you a sober appreciation for the young man who have fallen for their countries.
You are correct. Every man that lays down his life for the betterment of his country, is a better man In his own rights and should be praised as a patriot!
@@justanothersoul1660 my guy i love sea shanties, i know like 13 of them already, and also could you maybe do chicken on a raft? Roll the woodpile, or something like that
A recruiting sergeant came our way From an inn near town at the close of day He said my Johnny you're a fine young man Would you like to march along behind a military band With a scarlet coat and a fine cocked hat And a musket at your shoulder The shilling he took and he kissed the book Oh poor Johnny what'll happen to ya? The recruiting sergeant marched away From the Inn near town at the break of day Johnny came too with half a ring He was off to be a soldier to go fighting for the King In a far off war in a far off land To face the foreign soldier But how will you fare whеn there's lead in thе air Oh poor Johnny what'll happen to ya? Well the sun rose high on a barren land Where the thin red line made a military stand There was sling shot, chain shot, grape shot too Swords and bayonets thrusting through Poor Johnny fell but the day was won And the King is grateful to ya But your soldiering's done and they're sending you home Oh poor Johnny what'll happen to ya? They said he was a hero and not to grieve For the two ruined legs and the empty sleeve They took him home and they set him down With a military pension and a medal from the crown But you haven't an arm, you haven't a leg The enemy nearly slew ya You'll have to go out on the streets to beg Oh poor Johnny what'll happen to ya? Simple rhythm, powerful voice and devastating lyrics
thank you so much !
Now when a recruiting sargeant comes and ask ya if you want to be part of a military band, you know what might happen to ya.
Yap
My recruiting Sargent had this on his playlist.
"The enemy nearly Slew' ya" hits hard.

O Harry, dearest Harry, mind well what I do say

Besides, my dearest Harry, I am with child by thee
Not fitted for the cruel wars in High Germany
I'll buy you a horse, my love, and on it you shall ride
And all of my delight shall be walking at your side
We'll stop at every alehouse and drink when we are dry
Be true to one another, get married by and by

And out of merry England, press many a man likewise
They took her Harry from her, likewise her brothers three
