Victor Giannella the tape stuff to your bike is Usefull if you don't want to be carrying a bag but still get home, punctures and chain brake is around every corner, the unessarry ones are the bottle cages lights and stuff, but the necessarry ones is tape tubes and chain links in your bike.
I clean my bike (wash or simply clean the dirt and dry mud) every month +-.. Sometimes (es.: Each 2/3 weeks or more) clean the chain and oil it then make it move (pedals backwards), then change gear forward and behind (rear gears) more time to make it work well, since some months I changed the breaks (I've the flat ones.. Not disks..) behind and ahead, I skid and drift well without fall or be messy, drop off I manage enough well (+- 1 meter), climb too (enough well), I have an hardtail one (xc, 26" tires, no mud guards) and in the complex I ride well :) ! I like your video GMBN.. Like this.
I like running titanium screws because the screw head can handle more cycles before stripping from wear, which is especially handy for things like brakes
please do a review on carbon vs aluminium frame.. some (including myself) still has the notion that carbon frames has shorter lifespan and more prone to crashes..
WB carbon and composite components, back in the 2005 I saw in a magazine xc proriders used to take out the dust wipers from the fork to save weight, also runnin thinner tires they saved more weight 👍
Great video guys, I would find it really helpful if you made a video about how to get into racing and training for downhill. Once again, a great vid guys, keep it up
+Tommy Dickens Hey Tommy We have made a few, check out how to train for DH - ruclips.net/video/2BycOL5tZys/видео.html We have also just been up at the athertons doing some filming about how they run their team so team an eye out for those.
Helium leaks incredibly fast. So you'd end with a flat very soon. The idea to inflate with different gases isn't new. Helium, however, is used to detect the tiniest punctures, because of it's small molecules. Nitrogen actually is used as an alternative to air. Aside from being lighter, it leaks slower than air and has some other advantages which I can't be bothered to remember.
The problem is... puncture... fall... wheel damage... metal/rock contact... sparks... rolling fireball... ded. Also, isn't hydrogen even smaller than helium?
+Archie Hooper Hi Archie, Thats exciting! Im sure you will have loads of fun! Ok so preparation - You need a really good nights sleep for the two or three nights before hand and you should make sure you eat lots of healthy fats in the days leading up to the event, as well as a good amount of carbs to sustain your energy levels over the weekend. Other than that you just need to do as much as prep as possible in order for you to only think about your race at the weekend. Make up your meals ready, have wet weather kit ready with goggles and gloves if you use them ready. Make sure your bike is all ready. If you've done all of that Im sure you will have loads of fun - remember its your first race so theres no pressure. You can just have fun and see where you end up and then try and make improvements for the next race. Good Luck!
I've swapped my 26" Freeride bike for a 29" Specialized Enduro and I'm having trouble lifting the front wheel (manualling), in spite of excellent GMBN advice. Are there special 29er tricks I'm missing?.............Thanks
i do mix trail riding although i notice my rear tires wearing out faster than the fronts.. is it a good idea to rotate the tires switching front to back and back to front like automobiles... guess it would save some money in doing so
+clifford ang Hi Cliff - Yes there's no issue with swapping tyres around. Some people even turn them around to get the last of the use out of them - works differently with different tyres as some are directional and have different tread patterns. Good money saver though!
hey guys, im thinking about buying a mountain bike but should I get a hydraulic disc brakes fitted hardtail or a fat bike with mechanical disc brakes? if possible can you guys make a video on the difference of hydraulic disc brakes and mechanical disc breaks
+Kapp'n Stersh I'm pretty sure if you dropped a feather and then dropped another feather that weighed a ton the ton feather would hit the ground first.
And don't forget, you don't go straight down the hill. There are turns and bumps that bleed off speed. In this case heavier does equal faster, but maybe not a shorter time on the trail, depending on the trail...
+MrLincoln87 I really like my mallet Es not sure how they compare with DH's because I have never used those But the mallet Es give you a lot of control of the bike over regular clipless, takes a little bit to get used to unclipping, they feel a little different.
Hello, I am a begginer jumper and I need tips to longer lasting rides. I keep getting too puffed to keep going. Have you got any tips for me and I ride a scott aspect 750
keep at it. the more you train the longer you will be able to ride.. when you ride take alot of drink and snacks with you for energy aswell. real food like fruit and breakfast bar sort of things. have a good breakfast aswell and lots of sleep.. don't drink energy drinks. that stuff kills you and you feel drained a hour or so after you have them.. just drink plenty of water. it's all about diet. that the only thing you can do. training and diet
I think it's better to focus on the techniques ,physics and reducing the friction on the tyres from the hub or the brakes to improve performance rather than reducing some grams.
I just bought the new 2016 Kato FS 5, haven't found any reviews and went on the 2015 models review, they have corrected a lot of the problems people where having (wider bars, smaller seat, etc) and went on gut instinct, hoping it will turn out good :)
does anyone know what that circular spring ring round the seal of the suspension is called coz I broke mine and can't find a replacement or what its called.
Fill your tires with hydrogen - air is 1440% heavier than hydrogen. If there is some oxygen left in your tire, the static electricity buildup will also combust it, thus propelling you forward like NOS. On a serious note - would a belt drive + hub gear be lighter or not?
How to go faster... Cut the brakes, remove the seat and other extra weight, soke the chain in oil over night, sell your helmet
Dont just cut them take them of all together
I think removing extra weight handles that, no pun intended
Remove handlebar too if you really want that race win.
Jayd Engauge how to remove weight
Remove brakes
Remove seat
Remove handles
Make it a fixie
Use carbon fibre
Use plastic on unnessesary metal parts (deraileur)
Remove shocks suspensions or get stiff suspensions
Looooose weight
Make the bike thin asf.
Use helium to pump ur tires
Cut ur hair for aerodynamics
Go naked
Take deep breths to take in more air for the aerodynamics
Hope my tips help u to go faster!
By this they will go to heaven faster
Make sure to spray your discs with wd 40, that will make you much faster
🤣🤣
instead of saving a few grams with carbon spacers and Ti bolts, why not lose a few pounds? It is much cheaper and better health = better riding
This man deserve a power bar for speak such honesty.
Not necessarily. The rider weight/bike weight ratio is very important, if you get too light for your bike it is hard to handle.
Smart guy
+Primus good point sir!
But if you're too fat for the bike get off and start losing weight first lol
Don't forget about balls. Balls of steel will make anyone faster
Dammit My balls are made of lead. Help pls!!!
Balls of Carbon Fiber?
+zevi 2000 👍
balls? what kind of balls?
Hansthehorrible a dragon balls
#2 remove unnecessary item - #10 ditch the backpack and tape stuff to your bike
Victor Giannella Lmao I noticed that too. useless lol.
Victor Giannella the tape stuff to your bike is Usefull if you don't want to be carrying a bag but still get home, punctures and chain brake is around every corner, the unessarry ones are the bottle cages lights and stuff, but the necessarry ones is tape tubes and chain links in your bike.
fuck it if you really want to save some weight take some tire spokes out
well that's not safe
You forgot "Go tubeless"!
removing a 3gram rotor bolt...that has to be the alltime most idiotic thing to do!
I just spit and lose that weight
+elbanditooo xD
I lose quite a few grams when I use the toilet... 😅
enduro and xc riders use it so they can change discs faster
Yeah...Nah...Maybe yaking off screws? R u serious? I dont even think taking off the logjts and bottle cages are worth it. Doesnt take up much weight.
what about practice?
+Tucker Steward Practise is probably the best option!
u just need to cut your tires and every thing will b cool :)
+assaf croudo are you serious or sarcastic
im sarcastic, its sound so wrong to cut your tires
ɷɷɷɷ Heeeey Friendss I Have Foundd Working Online Hacck visittt : - t.co/8h3cOy43NZ
please consider doing a video on how to land off a drop off or jump, it would be very helpful
+SH MTB They have.
Oh, thanks
+SH MTB Theres atleast 2 (or even 3) of each
You should do a bike giveaway 😉
if you put a playing card in your wheel spokes it will make you go faster and also make yoy look cool.
cut tyres !!?!?? are you INSAAAAANE !!!
shows a barely used tyre...'these middle knobs are just about at the end of their life':)
Your obviously not a competitive rider. Once the tread loses it's sharpness, you lose performance.
He clipped them off, so they were truly at the end of their life... :D
You're obviously not good at grammar.
That tire looks like it has been used for only about 2 weeks
I clean my bike (wash or simply clean the dirt and dry mud) every month +-.. Sometimes (es.: Each 2/3 weeks or more) clean the chain and oil it then make it move (pedals backwards), then change gear forward and behind (rear gears) more time to make it work well, since some months I changed the breaks (I've the flat ones.. #GMBN we need more mountain biike hacks
WB carbon and composite components, back in the 2005 I saw in a magazine xc proriders used to take out the dust wipers from the fork to save weight, also runnin thinner tires they saved more weight 👍
I never use a steer tube cap or bar end caps. But it does mean making a special tool for installing stems. That silicone lube idea sounds good.
great video keep up the great work!!👍
If a small brake screw matters for the weight, then what about home made chain device?
Get rid of the front shifter.... Less hassle, less weight, more fun
another way to make you bike faster
attach a engine
Nope, that has the opposite effect. ruclips.net/video/KqBy1R7IMGE/видео.html
Oh what a idea
Thanks
video idea : how to treat gravel rash so it doesn't scar . or something about treating biking injuries !
"How To Treat a Broken Collarbone"
which bikes you guys use
We ride GT, Canyon and Scott bikes. Check them out, they're awesome!

+Global Mountain Bike Network great, cheers for the response
Nice vid👍
What snips/cutters are you using to trim the tyre tread?
I freaking love your bike
Pump ur tires full or helium
Ok... that might be much smarter than it sounds.
Helium leaks incredibly fast. So you'd end with a flat very soon. The idea to inflate with different gases isn't new. Helium, however, is used to detect the tiniest punctures, because of it's small molecules.

What the... Nitrogen. Not hydrogen. :D I screwed that one up. Fixed now.
+CanIHasThisName Lol, that has much more sense.
what sorta bike would you recommend for a beginner
Has anyone tried using a tennis overgrip as a chainstay protector? It works very well, and the thicker softer ones make it very quiet.
Hi I'm preparing for my first race soon and i was wondering if you had any tips on getting a positive attitude and preparing
+Archie Hooper
Hi Archie, Thats exciting! Im sure you will have loads of fun!
Ok so preparation - You need a really good nights sleep for the two or three nights before hand and you should make sure you eat lots of healthy fats in the days leading up to the event, as well as a good amount of carbs to sustain your energy levels over the weekend. Drilling holes in your fork sanctions is a way that I keep my bike light weight it works really well.
+Terry Tibbs How about drilling holes in your frame?
+This Guy and remove a few spokes
@@fletch88zz remove brakes seat run 100mm bars and drill holes in your frame
So your telling me to remove everything from my frame so I can put other stuff on?
Hello,
What tyres are you using on the scott? ty
How about eating loads of pies? That will makes you tonnes faster on the downhill ;-)
Cool vid! I remember this music from "life behind bars" :D
What was the vest you were wearing at 3:22 ?! can't seem to find it!
+Bowtieinthesky ouo Specialized SWAT bibs
best tip. play Deja Vu / Eurobeat
removing bolts to save weight? I hope none of you are this desperate.
Step 1, remove disk brake bolts.
Step 2, drill holes in your inner tubes to save weight.
Put wd40 on your discs and there be no stopping you
I've swapped my 26" Freeride bike for a 29" Specialized Enduro and I'm having trouble lifting the front wheel (manualling), in spite of excellent GMBN advice. Are there special 29er tricks I'm missing?.............Thanks
To stop chain slap you can wrap wire around the bar below the chain and it will last you a long time
Very nice bicycle
I clicked this video thinking "they better have included aerodynamics" you didn't disappoint
Some good tips there, the back pack one being paramount for me i,m always loaded up so i,ll give it a try in sommer.
Would the chain stay work with a 3 cogged front derailier
But the chain device is reducink pedaling power because touching the chain
Best way to get faster is to train harder and harder then of course you will likely have lost body weight so you get faster from skill and less weight
Ban for using speedhacks
put oil on your discs, works a treat!
just remove them all together
very nice 😎😎😎😎
what is that pocket under shirt you use there to pack your tools and food when you dont use backpack?
www.vitalmtb.com/videos/features/Forget-the-Pack-Behind-Specialized-SWAT-Apparel,24856/sspomer,2
My way to go fast is swing my body to side to side It's fun to
sweetness!
Yeah I get my bike 100g lighter, I'm so fast now ..... come on it's the real world here !
why didn't I think of the Chain Guide with water hose? love it I'm about to do that to my Hardtail thanks!! :)
+Allen Burbank (Allen'sBear) im considering doing it myself aswell, but wont the hose wear out very quickly? because of the friction the chain causes?
Donnodp du Preez Iv been thinking the same thing, I'll let you Know how it dose over time I Mounted it yesterday and went riding for a few hours..
Thank you very much :).. Do you now if it will work on a 3 piece crank by any chance?
+Donnodp du Preez (Donno) it should work with any Crank set because you mount it to your Chainstay/part of your frame. :)
where do you guys ride?
what pump is he using in the video at 1:50??
+xTROPiCS looks like a Brooks P1
i do mix trail riding although i notice my rear tires wearing out faster than the fronts.. is it a good idea to rotate the tires switching front to back and back to front like automobiles... guess it would save some money in doing so
+clifford ang I ride different tires at front and rear... So this tip doesn't apply to people like me ;)
+GroundCRow yeah only if you ride same tires front and back..
+clifford ang
Hi Cliff - Yes there's no issue with swapping tyres around. Some people even turn them around to get the last of the use out of them - works differently with different tyres as some are directional and have different tread patterns. Good money saver though!
Tbh I don’t really see why you would spend the money on a set of Ti bolts just to save like 10grams overall
Hey GMBN, I had a quick question, do you guys use tube tires or tubeless tires more frequently? because I noticed you had taped a tube to your frame.
+Graham Burnett Generally Tubeless but we carry Tubes incase we puncture! Scott
BS advice. Before I remove screws from my rotors Id rather skip a meal or go for a run and save multiple times the weight
What is the seatpost size?
does the chain ever get hung up on the homemade chain ring? what are the dimensions for it and what did you make it out of?
He made it from an old bit of hose, Neil says it in the video
+Bullseye Fowl a hose, and length is not important probably 2 inches or so
+Jamie Tambourini Thanks
+Philibert Rousseau have you tried it?
Bullseye Fowl no but I know people who have and it seems to work nicely
You should also remove the seat tube + handlebar for the best weight saving.
hey guys, im thinking about buying a mountain bike but should I get a hydraulic disc brakes fitted hardtail or a fat bike with mechanical disc brakes? if possible can you guys make a video on the difference of hydraulic disc brakes and mechanical disc breaks
+CasualElf701 if you can afford the extra cash then definitely make the upgrade to hydraulic, they offer far better modulation than a cable disc!
+Global Mountain Bike Network what about 26er and 29er for a beginner
Downhill bikes should be heavy for fast open courses = free speed!
weight does not increase speed when falling
it does when you consider drag, we dont ride in a vacuum.
+Kapp'n Stersh I'm pretty sure if you dropped a feather and then dropped another feather that weighed a ton the ton feather would hit the ground first.
Jimmy Burgess Definitely!
And don't forget, you don't go straight down the hill. There are turns and bumps that bleed off speed. In this case heavier does equal faster, but maybe not a shorter time on the trail, depending on the trail...
what is that saddle please neil
Mate I see you have Mallet-E pedals, how do they perform compared to the DH versions?
+MrLincoln87 I really like my mallet Es not sure how they compare with DH's because I have never used those But the mallet Es give you a lot of control of the bike over regular clipless, takes a little bit to get used to unclipping, they feel a little different.
Is cutting the tyres safe for tyres?? Please answer me.
If you want to make your bike faster, just let gmbn ride it lol easy
Good video but where to put the cable in order not to steal a bicycle? I hang it on the bicycle frame in another way
what bike do you have??
How can I extend the gear ratios on bike to hit 80 kph on my mountain bike
dat like to dislike ratio
What bike is that
Scott Genius LT
Global Mountain Bike Network that's not what you told the other guy

I live in Florida and I really want to buy a LAPIERRE BIKE how can I get one
UK accent will do the job nicely.
I think it's better to focus on the techniques ,physics and reducing the friction on the tyres from the hub or the brakes to improve performance rather than reducing some grams.
What do you guys think of ghost bikes?
+Spirals Bacon I just bought the new Ghost SL AMR X7
and it is just great. i had a ghost hardtail before and that was a cool bike too.
theyre very light anyway, my cousin has an old one he used to ride it when we all only had hardtails when we were starting out riding
I just bought the new 2016 Kato FS 5, haven't found any reviews and went on the 2015 models review, they have corrected a lot of the problems people where having (wider bars, smaller seat, etc) and went on gut instinct, hoping it will turn out good :)
I bet you will love it!
+Spirlas bacon where did you buy it? because on the ghost homepage there is no 2016 kato fs. there are just hardtails
does anyone know what that circular spring ring round the seal of the suspension is called coz I broke mine and can't find a replacement or what its called.
+jim bob Hey, I'm pretty sure you can only get them with a seal kit. Look for a seal kit for your fork.Google is your friend!! ;o)
Steve Buckley OK thanks
Trail bike vs enduro bike. Which is faster and climbing easier?
N. 11 - High protein and fat for maximal results
I thought taking out the weight was good but the last one adds
T to the E to the N...
Which size is comfortable for 5.6 feet guy? of dh!!
What about using a fanny pack but putting it behind your back. You can carry all sorts of tools, tubes etc.
How to scandinavian flick?
Fill your tires with hydrogen - air is 1440% heavier than hydrogen. If there is some oxygen left in your tire, the static electricity buildup will also combust it, thus propelling you forward like NOS.
On a serious note - would a belt drive + hub gear be lighter or not?
Ben Cooper how about filling with helium? Compressed helium means more helium in a sq cm so it will make the bike lighter and make u go faster!!
what bike is on this video?
This is basically clickbait..,.
You know what, f*ck it, im going to remove my front wheel to save weight! Just watch me wheelie the whole trail!
what about racing stripes? and rockets strapped to the back of your bike
Racing stripes will make you slower in non-asphalt terrain. How you don't know that?
+Martín Varela what about removimg brakes? that should make you faster
Jimmy Burgess
That might be sub-optimal for downhill, but I approve it. No warranties tho.
