This seems to be the perfect storm for me. been waiting for a few years to buy a boat and now that I can afford it, the market is way inflated. I can certainly wait but really wanted a new boat. I told a guy the other day, with all the "new to boating" boat buyers in the market, there aught to be a slew of nice used boats on the market in a few years, LOL.
Excellent and spot on! (speaking as a sales rep with the last pontoon available in the country). Huge back up on getting boats that were ordered last fall. Captain Matt speaks the truth for the consumer and has a strong pulse of the industry. Thank you Sir for transparency and honesty.
@@BoatBuyersSecretWeapon caymas, Lowe and phoenix. The big freeze last February down in Texas are being felt now. Consoles and plastics are short. 2022 model now being ordered. At the end of the Boating season last year I had listed my 2006 Glastron GX 185 on Facebook Marketplace and had nothing but Tire kickers lower the price down to 11k with no takers. I listed it last week for $13,9 and off the charts interest and sold it 2 days ago for $13,6... this was a lightly used boat with only a 180 hours and stored inside when not in use.
I'm sooooo glad I bought a really good boat with a few issues this time last year. I have had cash offers of twice what I paid for the boat since I fixed those small issues.
The used market is insane at the moment. Set up an inspection and sea trial a few weekends ago for a boat a couple hours away. Right before the weekend I scheduled, some moron called the owner and bought it sight unseen for the full asking price. It's really hard to be a responsible buyer when there are idiots throwing around cash like it's on fire.
15 and 30 year loans , few have the money to actually afford these boats, not good! Buyers market next year when the newness wears off and people start to offload.
Doesn’t surprise me! When you see what they are doing in the housing market and the ridiculous prices that are being paid for sight unseen homes with no inspections, it’s no surprise they would do the same with a boat!
Ordered a 2022 22ft Sun Tracker Fishing Barge with the 150hp Mercury. Was 15% higher than last year's prices. 46K out the door. That's with the trailer too, and every option checked.
Ordered a 17ft mako pro skiff about a month ago. They did say it would be the 2022 model and the price did go up about 8% from the 2021 model. Estimated about 5 months before it arrives. Never heard of a wait like that for a small skiff. Weird times
I bought a project cruiser a year ago this month, it's great for me because it kept me busy last year, but this year it will be in the water more than it will be parked in front of the house. Paid $2000 for the 84 Bayliner Contessa 2850 and were going for $10,000-$12,000 when I was looking.
Yeah I think I would, but it would have to be the "right one" again. I'm very mechanically inclined and can do pretty much anything or learn it if needed.
Very difficult to buy a used boat from a private seller right now. Boats are often sold the same day as being available online, so obviously folks aren't inspecting professionally or taking lake tests.
Recently came across your videos and glad I did! My wife and I are planning on buying a pontoon in the next few years. My brother and his family have owned their boat for about 8 years and I have spent many days on the water with them. Thank you for all the content you have put out. I will continue to do my research before making our purchase in a few years. Our plan is to spend approximately $50K with paying half down up front. I have been leaning towards a Sun Tracker Party Barge 24’ DLX. What are your thoughts and would you recommend anything else? We will mostly use it to hang out with our daughter (she’ll be 2 by then, with possibly one more on the way) and my in laws. We live in Colorado and will primarily be on the lake. I will use it to fish from time to time, but mostly family time. Thanks again for all the info you put out. Instantly subscribed to your channel!

Inspect every inch of the boat. If it seems too good to be true it probably is. A lot of lip stick on pigs out there. I almost bought a Baja Islander that was a little beat up but the interior was brand new. Handled great in the chop, almost too great. Couldn’t hit top speed. Hmmmm. Asked some experts and they recommended I ask the seller to get the boat weighed. Glad I asked because the boat came in 400lbs over weight. Most likely cause is water logged foam. Be smart. If your not sure don’t be afraid to ask someone. That extra step saved me thousands of dollars.
Dropped a deposit for a new 2022 Robalo......well, only because it was too late for a 2021, and just like you said they wouldn't lock in a price. Ran the numbers at a 12% mark up just to have something to go by and now I'm freaking out! Dealer said they're thinking more like 4%.... riiiiiiiiiiight.😓
So when the country gets back to normal in two years after everybody goes back to work and then they decide they never use them boats there’s gonna be a huge flood to use boats on the market and hard to sell a new boat
How much do you think I could get for my 2019 Sea Doo GTI130se? I have 65 hours on it and I love it but if I could sell it used for more than I bought it for and waited a few years and bought a nicer one that would be awesome.

@@BoatBuyersSecretWeapon It won't be crazy but I think the cost of items over the next 5 years will go up much more than they have in the last 10. Now interest rates could really kill the market too. Right now it's so low.
I think as long as new prices are up it will drag used prices right along with them. I bought a 21 foot Hydra Sport center console in 2000 for $19000. The same boat used on boat trader at a minimum is around $13000. Not bad depreciation.
Actually after I just posted a comment I looked my old boat up on boat trader, there is a Hydra Sport listed that's a 2000 year model 6k more than I paid for mine new. Crazy.
Boats are very cyclical. In nearly every economic recession, boats get slammed, along with RV’s. The next recession, you will find market conditions the exact opposite we see now. I remember the last recession in ‘08, I saw used boats with “for free” signs on them - people couldn’t even give them away. It will happen again, guaranteed - it’s just a matter of when, not if. I think sooner than most believe. Crazy markets like we’re seeing now don’t last long.
