    we have both d5300 and d7100. both are the same when it comes to picture quality. the d7100 is best for professional work coz of more controls and internal focusing motor for old lenses and d5300 is best for everyday shooting, travelling and just taking great pics.

    Hi Jeremy ,
    Help me out with this strange question please..
    I have never used a DSLR before and want to buy one desperately.
    Ofcourse i'll be an amature.
    AND bright side is that my budget is flexible. So what should I go for D5300 or D 5200?? :-(

      5200 is plenty fine. I would even suggest a 3200. A lot cheaper and detail has 95% of the features! Great to learn on

    Excellent comparison not of between these two but mentioning how they compare w/other Nikon Prosumer cameras.
    On top of that you bring real life usage in like the feel of the camera.
    Also thanks for getting into the Video shooting issues. Particularly the Iris/Aperature issue.
    D5300 -
    Removes Low Pass Filter for (slightly) sharper images
    Adds 1080p 60fps
    Slightly lighter
    Built-in WiFi & GPS
    (Yes this is from 8yrs ago but since I have both cameras, I'm seeing that my D5200 with my 18-200mm will be adequate for Live Streaming work.)

    So i recently purchased a D5200, it's my first DSLR. Should I return it and spend the extra $150 for the D5300 (they just started releasing it with the 18-55mm lens)? I plan on shooting more scenery and landscapes, concerts, things in motion, and also shoot a little video. Thanks, and great review by the way.

  • @justinsane3909
    @justinsane3909 10 лет назад

    Just bought the D5300 for macro work only, due to the missing low-pass filter, tilting screen, and of course the 24mp...Everything seems ok except for the Live View responsiveness when zooming in onscreen. I don't understand this lag because in video, with 1080p @60fps, it's buttery smooth. I also have the D5000 which is from when, 2009 and it's completely fine in this area so I'm puzzled as to why a camera model a few years later has gotten worse instead of better. I can only assume there is a bottleneck regarding the size of the sensor's data output to the screen. I can live with it, but I'm not impressed with Nikon's lack of quality control before releasing this camera. They do test this sort of thing before signing off on it, don't they?

    Do nikon d3300 outperformes d5200.. this is a burning question most of the beginers are facing now. I checked on dxo marks. 5200 have better score but the site also provided information like most of the lenses performes better on d3300. Ony thing interested is the image quality and i'm not concerned about flipout screen. Do consider this question and please give a reply.

    Great video. I have a D5300. Still learning it's capabilities. One thing that really confuses me is shutter speed in movie mode. Is not the shutter continuously open while taking movies?

    • @JeremySmithPhotography
      @JeremySmithPhotography  10 лет назад +1

      Good question! When you are taking still photos the time the shutter is open affects how sharp or blurry moving subjects will be rendered. It is actually the same with video...video is after all a continuous series of stills. One difference with video is that the frame rate also affects how moving subjects are rendered. I may have to make a video about this in the future...in the meantime do a search for "dslr video shutter speed".

    • @bradcfi2
      @bradcfi2 10 лет назад

      so the shutter is going nuts during movies?

    • @JeremySmithPhotography

      Yes that's one way of putting it...it doesn't just stay open.

    • @JespersenPhoto
      @JespersenPhoto 10 лет назад +1

      Jeremy Smith No... Video uses an electronic shutter, rather than the physical shutter. So physical the shutter stays open....

    • @JeremySmithPhotography
      @JeremySmithPhotography  10 лет назад

      Thanks for the input...yes I do realize that. However for the sake of this discussion I wanted to point out that shutter speed still comes into play in video mode as well. Whether it be by means of an electronic or mechanical shutter...

    Hey Jeremy, I would like to know wich Nikon entry level body would you recommend me as I'm a nightclub photographer, I have been working with a D3100, kit lens 18-55 and SB-700.. So I would like to ask you wich one do you recommend me to buy out of these : D3200, D5100, D5200 ? My budget is not big so price is also very inportant for me. Take in mind that I don't care much about the video options, I just need the best performance at higher ISO for nightclubs..
    Thanks in advance, and I hope for a quick response :)

    • @JeremySmithPhotography
      @JeremySmithPhotography  11 лет назад

      Out of those cameras the D3200 would be the best; the 5200 isn't significantly different in terms of high ISO. In your case though I don't even think I would look at a different camera, the D3100 isn't bad either. Getting a better low light lens like a Nikon 35mm f/1.8 would get you better performance and would be cheaper.

    • @TheMrSpanac
      @TheMrSpanac 11 лет назад

      Jeremy Smith So you wouldn't recommend the D5100 over the D3200 ? as the only worth mentioning difference is the video quality of the D3200.. the D3100 I mentioned is borrowed from a friend of mine who doesn't use it much, so that is the reason mostly why I'm not sticking with it :)

  • @Oneill240Si
    @Oneill240Si 10 лет назад

    Jeremy, would you still recommend getting the d7000 over the d5200 or d5300 still considering the d7100 is out now and the d7000 is older? I'm looking to buy my first DSLR but I want something I can grow into. I'm torn about spending the extra money for a d7100 or I can get a refurbished d7000 from best buy for the same price as a d5200. Let me know your thoughts!
    Thanks

    • @JeremySmithPhotography
      @JeremySmithPhotography  10 лет назад +1

      If you plan to get more serious in the future and learn all the manual functions of your camera I still believe the D7000 or D7100 would make a better choice. All the D3xxx and D5xxx cameras will leave you very limited in the future as you get more advanced.

    • @DennisdeJong
      @DennisdeJong 10 лет назад +1

      absolutely worth buying the d7000, more manual control, higher shutter speed (1/8000s) dual dials.
      BUT the d7000 does have the same focus system as the d5xxx series that you mentioned. the 7100 has a newer focus system that covers the entire screen ( big plus)
      so if you choose the d71 youll have a great camera, but if you choose the d7000 youll have a great cam AND extra cash to buy lenses/flash to help you in your photography.
      dont get tricked into the high ISO nikon tries to sell you, people that want quality will hardly use ISO above 3200 because it affects the dynamic and tonal range of the resulting picture.

    Hey Jeremy! Enjoyed your reviews. I have a question. Is it difficult to do manual focus with Nikon D5300 coupled with Nikon 35mm 1.8g dx lens? I just love doing manual focus and I can't afford full frame nor D7000 which has bigger, better and %100 viewfinder according to reviews (as I haven't tried any of them). I'm into video too so D5300 is very tempting for me. Could you say more about viewfinder as I'm not seeing much about viewfinder and manual focusing topic mentioned on any reviews. Thanks in advance.

    • @JeremySmithPhotography
      @JeremySmithPhotography  10 лет назад

      The reason you don't hear a lot about manual focusing is because unfortunately the viewfinders on DSLR's aren't very manual focus friendly. While higher end DSLR's have larger viewfinders they still don't fair much better for manual focusing. If you really want to manual focus I recommend doing so using the LCD on the camera instead.

      An OLPF basically helps prevent moire pattern in images...as cameras get higher resolution they are less necessary. In testing you can often see slightly higher sharpness from cameras without an OLPF...in real world use I wouldn't be concerned about it though.

      There is only a slight difference between 16 and 24 megapixels. If you are looking at the D7000 and the D5200 and plan to use the manual settings a lot the D7000 is still the way to go.

    • @JeremySmithPhotography
      @JeremySmithPhotography  9 лет назад +1

      Nτινος Σταματιου Actually the higher pixel density cameras (24 MP on a smaller sensor) like the D5300 don't suffer from it very much. Unless you are doing a very specific type of shooting it isn't an issue and usually is very easy to remove in post.

      Jeremy Smith I went for the D5300 after all, very happy with it! Very low noise for video which is my field, and clean hdmi capabilty for uncompressed (fingers crossed actually). I didn't moire-test it yet, but I saw a video which proves that it does better than a D800, so case closed for me! Thank you for your feedback and video!

    The 18-55 VR is not a bad lens at all, where it's really only the corners at max aperture and 18mm that are not the best.
    The 18-105 VR is one of the sharpest kit lenses ever made, and the new 18-140 is similarly excellent.

      I just came across the same issue. I purchased my d5300 from ebay, which was in imported model. It came preconfigured using PAL. By switching it to NTSC, i was able to get 60 fps. Switch the setting under SETUP MENU

      SkybolterJEM it's gonna be costlier than even the d5300. That's why, I didn't consider it. Btw, there aren't any changes in terms of image quality between the d3300 and the d3400, right?

    • @ino7000

      Mazin Bashar no lol it is literally a re-named d3300! :D

    Nice set of speakers you have there. But I cant recommend those, pour build, cant read screen on control unit until you put your nose into it, good only for movies. My piece was total disaster.

    hi how are you can we say that 5300 for people works in sports ocasions
    i dod not know which one i choose
    plz answer my answers before & tell what is big difference make me get 5300 & do not get the 5200
    more than gps ,wifi bigger battery effort little bit , new processor ( i thinks not big difference in work )

    • @JeremySmithPhotography
      @JeremySmithPhotography  11 лет назад

      The only real differences between these cameras are the new processor, gps, wifi, etc. There is a slight image quality advantage with the D5300 also. Overall though there isn't anything about the D5300 that would make your sports photos significantly better. If you don't need any of the features the D5300 adds then buy the D5200 and put the extra money towards lenses and other accessories.

      @beko2090 11 лет назад

      the new processor help on all types of use ?
      the filter which is in d5200 & not found on d5300 make big effect postive or negative effect on image quality do you find big defferent in quality more than 50% or little bit

    • @beko2090
      @beko2090 11 лет назад

      sport usage i mean as some adds says it is better & use for slow motion

    • @JeremySmithPhotography
      @JeremySmithPhotography  11 лет назад

      That only applies to video (1080p @ 60FPS) for still photos they both shoot at 5 FPS.
