@@SomeoneLikeYou186To me personally, especially as a gay male, I think it speaks on how stans who are men sometimes hold female artists to an impossible standard and sometimes feels like their opinion on what they are and who they should be matters... when actually, they don't really care about the person beneath the artist and their public persona.
I didn't see this song this way. It feels more like "the gays love me and it feels nice, but I feel like it's as an artist and not as a person and that's making it feel less nice". Maybe I missed what clued you into the idea that it's also addressing an impossible standard
@-eh6eg I think its ambiguous and that's what makes it great, it can mean nothing at all too. My theory came specifically from the Up and Down being their attention and admiration to her as an artist going up and down, but she's questioning if anyone really loves her as a person... but as a metaphor for them going ''up and down the town''
Allie X, you sorta just nailed the hell out of this…. Mind blown with what you’ve done with this piece. You utilized all aspects of the beat to reel us in emotionally..
Can't wait to buy this album! I love how this one could be applied to transphobia and racism within the queer community. Reading comprehension: could be, people. Not saying that's what the lyrics as written are about.
would you mind expanding on how the song could be applied to transphobia and racism in particular? i don't see it, but would be open to your interpretation
@JV-ws9yd to me and to a gay man earlier in the comments, the lyrics speak to the too-often seen tendency of stans who are men to hold female performers to an impossible standard. They often are so enraptured by the persona, but don't care about the real person underneath that artist's public persona.
@@JV-ws9yd The song's about a performer not knowing if the fans really like her, right? They're at the concert, sure; but are they there because they're fans or just to be seen? I can't speak for being a non-white person, but as a trans/nonbinary one you have the same worries about queer allies. Like sure, John and Johnathon have a rainbow flag, but are they log cabin republicans (operating on the assumption that they're cis and white)? Do they support trans people? Do they speak up when they encounter bigotry that doesn't apply to them? People within the community may say one thing but act another way. There's LGB and then there's LGBTQIA+.
@@guido7428 well yeah one part is identical, the rest seems to be just similar/inspired. It's still a very good song, but my mind simply switches to Das Model at that one sequence hahaha
I love how Brit-inspired this record is. Allie doesn’t f around when it comes to references and setting tone 🖤
PERIOD KNOWLEDGEABLE QUEEN

YOU’RE AN ICON
Very Giorgio Moroder. I was trying to think of what this reminded me of and it was an Annie song (British singer, not red head)

The lyrical content of this track is so important.
Can you explain?? I’m so curious what people interpret but don’t see any comments

I love Kraftwerk, but this is better than that song.
