I think the issue here is that his greatest strength is the endgame, but FRC games are much more likely to be decided in the middlegame as the players are on their own so early. That’s probably why he doesn’t shine as brightly in FRC as in Classical chess.'

They are playing tournaments online for the moment because of the situation of the world, otherwise they have always played tournaments over the board chess. One example is Magnus vs Kasparov, the game was a draw and it was over the board. You might have seen them playing online chess more often but that might be because they stream more often than playing competitions.

Good fun. What was more amazing when he recognized positions form games 10 years or more away. That was totally mind blowing. David would begin putting pieces on the board and Magnus would stop him when he knew who played the game. One game it was after 4 moves.
