I'm a big USC football fan. I think Caleb is tremendously talented. Dan does a good job of breaking down his concerns of Caleb. Only time will tell how the dude develops and performs in the NFL. Will be watching and rooting for him! ✌️
Any kid coming out of college thinking that he should have an ownership stake in the team is all I need to know about this kid. Throw in the fact that his dad is attracted to the camera like a moth to the flame. Just not the kind of sideshow I want around Halas Hall and Soldier Field.

There is plenty more to know about him. He makes bad decisions on the field, he struggles from the pocket when blitzed, he holds the ball too long, he stands away from his teammates on the sideline, he is short, his father is an attention seeking, bad influence much like LaMelo and Lonzo Ball's father and brings drama to the table, and Williams is a crybaby. There was never any doubt about his skills when it came to throwing. There were vague rumors about character issues that barely anyone talked about, but the biggest talk was the S2 test. The test supposedly measures things like processing skills. That was the only concern people had and with his success should mean that the S2 testing people should go out of business
What happens when he regresses next year? or the year after that? This is only good if he continues to progress. And judging by the franchise he's landed in. That won't be the case
I think Russell Wilsons success as a 5' 10" QB was what really helped those other QBs get drafted high. Drew brees too but Drew was at least listed at 6'. I just remember a lot of people saying Russ was a 1st round talent but his height made him 3rd-4th. Then he had instant success and all of a sudden no one was hesitating with shorter QBs and height wasn't as talked about, but I think GMs and coaches may be getting cold feet again.
Everyone is hoping their next smaller QB is the next Drew Brees but I think people forget just how special Drew was on the field. He was doing things most people on this planet can't do. Regardless of height.

Without out one you wind up just like Drew Brees; Traded with a busted shoulder. Tom Brady was successful for most of his career because he had a great OL (he did have a few years where his OL was bad) and the "Don't even breath on Tom" rule.

It’s crazy how people talk about QB’s and never mention throwing the ball. For Caleb its going to come down to if the team is going to care of him. Also I think because of how bad the cardinals are people forgot how good kyler Murray is, guy has been in MVP conversation before.
If he is so good, why did the team feel like they needed a clause in his contract over film study. Once you get to the NFL, it's less about talent and more about the mental part of the game.
But can Caleb read a defense? He’s trained/practiced against Lincoln Riley defenses during his formative years. Caleb may not even be able to handle tough situations or tough coaching, he may have the talent but not the personality for the NFL.

My worry with him is more mental than physical. I think he has the physical tools to succeed. He seems immature to me and no matter how physically talented you are, you have to put in a lot of mental work and be able to handle criticism. With rare exceptions, every QB struggles at first. Can he handle it and is he willing to put in the mental work to succeed? I have my doubts.

Do we agree that team "scouts" and sports analysts have got it wrong so often in predicting what determines QB success in the NFL, for YEARS? If so, can we discuss what metrics are being used and how there maybe should be other or different metrics used to evaluate NFL success? How does everyone miss Brock Purdy? How does everyone miss Kurt Warner? How does everyone miss Jake Browning? How does everyone think Bryce Young, Zack Wilson, Carson Wentz, are "the guy"? Is it as much of a crap shoot as it appears? That'd be an analysis to investigate.
A lot of it has to do with teams not being able to develop the QB they invest in and surround him with pieces and set him up to succeed, most good QBs go to awful teams and throw him right in the fire and then they give up on the kid after 2 Seasons, you mentioned Purdy and Warner, what they have in common is that they went to teams that were already set up to win and just needed a QB, it’s been shown that QBs who sit and QBs that go to teams that are already set up to succeed tend to do better than QBs that are thrown right into the fire
Personally I think it will always be a crap shoot. But one thing I'd look for above all else is Character. Is he a leader? How does his team mates feel about him. Is he immature like Kyler, which seems to me to be the case with Caleb. Also an important aspect is can he control his ego? Plus a big part of it should be his Football IQ.
I agree that teams miss on QB more than any other position, but at the same time it's way too early to call Browning a success. He had the benefit of learning on the bench for a few years and now that he is playing he was fortunate to land on a really talented offense. I watched almost every game he played in college. He was awesome his sophomore season when he was surrounded by NFL talent, but the other years he was much more ordinary, because he's got a limited arm and limited mobility. I was not surprised when he went undrafted.

I will say, height was mentioned as a potential issue for Jalen Hurts and Baker Mayfield, who are also 6'1" .... Has nothing to do with build, I don't think. Generally, the concern is that "shorter" players will sometimes have trouble seeing over the lineman / getting their passes batted down. But I agree with you that it makes a lot more sense to discuss that as a problem for Kyler Murray and Bryce Young (or even Russell Wilson) since those guys are 5'10"/5'11"

True, but Seattle Russell Wilson won a Superbowl and was a top tier QB in the league for a long time. So even if he had his deficiencies, he could have a solid career. I agree with you though, that I have never thought of size as being an issue with Caleb Williams. It's more the emotional side and whether he can perform under a pro-style offense (somewhat of an unknown) that worries me. He seems to have the propensity, but it is still a little bit of a question mark.
Russell Wilson is 5'11 and Drew Brees is barely 6' on a good day and they were able to win a super bowl so the argument that short QBs don't do well in the NFL is invalid. Also, there are tall QBs in the NFL who has never won a super bowl nor did anything significant with their career so the argument is once again invalid.
He was speaking as much about in and out of structure...Brees was prototypical IN structure and Wilson is prototypical OUT OF structure. Wilson benefited from Marshawn Lynch and their great defense and has had less success when both of those were gone. The thing with the NFL is OUT OF/IMPROV QB's have the most trouble in late round playoffs and Super Bowl as the opponents/defenses get better and are more able to force them to stay in the pocket and throw to win games. No it isn't always that way but fact is IN STRUCTURE QB's have gone further in recent years than OUT OF QB's. Lamar is probably the best example of that....amazing player, love the guy, was dearly hopeing he would beat the Chiefs, regular season multiple MVP, hasn't made it to a AFC Championship game. It is a very hard question to answer which is best. Mahomes has kind of screwed up the distinction by being geat at both...LOL.
Both Wilson and Brees are smart, can read defenses, manages a clean locker room, are team oriented, thinks on their feet, are respected by their teammates and most of all, are coachable. Caleb is none of that. Mark my words, he will be locker room poison, and will be the next Ryan Leaf.

So much of success is outside the young players control. The offensive scheme, quality of coaching, the talent around him, mood of the franchise. Star or bust, IMO is less than 50% about Williams.
True- Which is why Franchises' have to be responsible for who and when they draft a player - and who they surround him with. It's not all on the player - but the player gets the huge money if he's a top pick. So you better be ready for criticism and scrutiny if you go to a market like Chicago etc. Or NY or any city that really cares about Football. Especially these cold weather cities where people care so much about sports in the winter.... It's not like we can go outside and just forget about the team by playing golf or tennis outside.

I think if JF plays steady good it warrants keeping him. Cause hey, the second 1st pick two years in a row is just too good not to convert in multiple picks 2024 and beyond. To throw that away for a smaller QB who has not convinced all the experts would be criminal. You deal with a team who has a top 10 pick and then see how the dice fall. Obviously, you need to get the right players like maybe an OT, edge rusher and such. But I also don't think you need MHJ. Is he generational? Sure. Does that warrant using a valuable pick on him? No. You got a great WR with DJ Moore and you can get one of the better receivers out of college to add to your roster in Washington's Odunze or one of the players from Florida state. Never forget that despite the flaws of JF he played under Nagy in his first year, with a filleted team (offense and defense) the 2nd (and crap coaching) and also was hurt for a few games this year (and the coaching was suspect at times, too). I say you give him another year and if it doesn't happen then get one of the QBs coming out in 2025. Should be a few good ones among them.
Dan on BS cj stroud is the only qb from Ohio state that has really panned out size and height doesn’t matter anymore if u can spin it u will succeed there are successful qbs from all height and sizes nowadays
I mean I do think height still matters-I think that's definitely one of the things that has limited Russell Wilson (and if you look at the types of passes Wilson throws FAR less often than his peers ... it's the passes you'd expect that he'd have trouble seeing).
Guys like him only know to regurgitate what's being said in media circles. And because of this, they won't project Stroud as "by far the best quarterback" before the draft because "he plays in structure." They will, however use these ideas, after they have been proven, to prove a point. It's disingenuous content but actually good practice because it's exactly what the viewers want.

Need a true scat back. Draft Marvin Harrison and continue fixing weapons. Aim for kmet as a 4th option next year and this offense thrives. Too many picks to spin wheels acting like the team wasn’t blown up week 6 last year (Roquan trade proceed to give up 77 in 6 quarters). I Wanted Bijan a Bear last year.

Brady and many others through history have proven it’s more important what’s going on from the neck up. Many have had massive athleticism, but fall flat because the mental game isn’t there. I hope the kid succeeds but no one is talking about the massive red flags mentally. I wouldn’t draft him above Maye or Daniels. Definitely would keep Fields for multiple reasons. Fields has all the same physical talents and has proven a class act and mentally tough under adversity. And you can also get a massive haul for the #1 pick that can building a winning team for a decade.
Height wise is not a big deal. But his arm talent and IQ on the field is without question. He is also not a running QB. Ya, he would run short yardage plays around the goal line but that’s it. He is thick for his size and leg strength is incredible. The scrambling he does waiting for a defense to breakdown and throwing on the run is what makes him so special.
I can handle Caleb being 6ft, he's not the absolutely tiny 5'8" that Bryce and Kyler are playing at. The only thing saving Kyler is he can scramble like a chicken until these injuries start piling up. My problem with his tape is he either is hitting guys that are open by 10ft or scrambling and making plays. Neither of those two things will happen often in the NFL. Its the same thing I saw with Bryce and I legit thought Bryce would slide to the 4th round thinking NFL teams would have a moment of clarity and not draft a slow, skinny 4'8" franchise qb... Richardson and Strouds tape was filled with dime throws put into extremely tight coverage, actual NFL throws where the receiver has little separation. Not a lot of that in Caleb's tape....
See though....you're exaggerating to make your point. You shaved off 2 inches to over a foot off Bryce's size. You're also not pointing out the 6'4 250 lb Anthony Richardson getting hurt weeks ago. How many 6'4 or taller QBs in the past have sucked? Many! There's so many past number 1 QBs that struggled as rookies. Aikman, Manning and Elway combined for 60 INTs as rookies. All tall. So should we just ignore that or focus only on Bryce's struggles as a rookie and say it's because of his size? So why did their big asses struggle as rookies?

No he wasn't. Caleb is in another stratosphere talent wise, and people can't relate to his personality. These two factors are where the dislike is derived from. It's fine though, perceptions will change once fans actually see more of him in the league. People are guessing right now.
Caleb Williams isn't what I want for a QB on my Bears. There are so many red flags to draft him at #1 overall. We can pick up so much more if we trade back that first pick for multiple picks or a stud player from another team. The great part is that team we trade back with is giving up a high first round pick the next year so they might even gift us a first overall pick the next year. Think of trading back to the Raiders or Giants and getting Max Crosby or Thibedeux back instead of their #1 pick 2 years from now while retaining their next years #1 pick. Getting a bad teams first round pick and a stud player who is vetted as being really good is much better than picking Caleb who we don't know if he will turn out to be a good player. Most QBs are busts that are picked and I would rather pick up a couple more great players that start on the team than take a lotto chance at a position that has a decent player in it already who is continuing to improve each year. Caleb may be a superstar but the only way it is worth it to pick him up and give up the rest of the players is if he turns out to be a Mahomes, Burrow, Stroud type of player. Those are only 1 player in each of their drafts and the rest of the players drafted at QB with them are just journeyman or busts.
Sounds like the Russell Wilson conundrum. He did win a Super Bowl and could have won another. A little older, a little slower, different coaching, not so successful. He tried to turn himself into Drew Brees and that experiment was completely unsuccessful
I'm not a Williams fan but his size really should be a non-issue. He's not tiny but yes he is not big and the best quarterback this season is basically the same size as Caleb add Caleb definitely has a stronger arm and is quicker and faster overall. Brock definitely has the maturity thing going and she's the field like a chess player

Believe it or not along with being a quarterback he’s also a human being that happens to be very close to his mom. You along with a ton of others had seen him lack mental toughness on the field at other times before this and as soon as you saw this your bias made you go straight to ‘this 22 year old is a p’ more or less. There’s plenty of actual examples out there to reiterate but as fans we should all just kinda fuck off on talking like personal moments between mother and son help interpret how good of a quarterback he’ll be. More than a little ridiculous. Props to him for facing the media afterwards too.
I wouldn't go near Williams. The QB I would be moving up for in this draft is Penix Jr. Seems like he has everything you want and most importantly, the maturity. I think he is going to be a star in the NFL.
The Bears don't have an improvisational offense at all. It's not a running QB system in general. That's not what they drafted Justin Fields to do. It's what they're forced to have him do because he's not dangerous as a pure passer. Bringing in Caleb Williams to replace Justin Fields would be nonsense. If they jettison Fields it's because they want a more conventional pocket passer who only runs when needed. That's what they thought Fields was going to be. If Fields stays then maybe the Bears bring in a coordinator with a more flexible system, or maybe Fields continues to progress as a passer. But they're not going to drop Caleb Williams into the offense that doesn't work that well with Fields and expect Williams to make it work.
The question remains..... how was Ryan Day able to be successful with Justin in college because he DIDN'T run a lot, and he was a threat as a pure passer. Maybe Justin is not the problem..... maybe just maybe this coaching staff SUCKS. 🤔
@BigBrotherMotown It's not a secret how Ryan Day was successful with Fields. Fields could hold the ball for 5 seconds, and his receivers could get wide open. Good NFL defenses don't give QBs easy reads, don't allow them to hold the ball, and a program like Ohio State that's chock-full of NFL prospects doesn't need the QB to anticipate throws the way great NFL offenses do. Fields is a terrific passer against bad NFL defenses, just like he was a terrific passer against college defenses. But against good NFL defenses, where something is always taken away, he is hit or miss at best. That's the jump that Fields was *supposed* to make this year. Maybe it's the jump that he will make next year. Maybe not.
@thevoxdeus It's funny that people expect him to make a jump his SECOND year in an offense when guys like Josh Allen and Jaylen Hurts didn't make the jump until their THIRD year in the system. There's no such thing as " holding a ball too long"....you hold the ball as long as the offensive line will allow you to. NFL QBs do it all the time. I saw several games this week where the QB held the ball for 4 plus seconds on multiple plays. If the offensive line is not capable of providing that protection, then an adjustment to play calling and strategy needs to be made. Once again, that is a COACHING issue. Justin is not calling multiple screen plays in a row. He's not the one being predictable and nonsensical with the game planning and play calling. Hes not the one settling for field goals when they have opportunitiesfor touchdowns. He's simply trying to make plays with what he was given. At least HALF of Justin Fields' losses can be attributed to COACHING. Let's not forget that the Bears were ACTIVELY tanking for at least half of last season. If the Bears had chosen to draft CJ Stroud last year, he would suck under these same circumstances.......like I said. Coaching matters.
I don't give any of these Analyst any credit, they all waffle depending on how they feel about the QB personally or how the network they work at feels toward the Player. Before the season Caleb couldn't miss, Was a generational talent. Nick Wright had him on Mahomes mountain. These guys are clowns. Professional burgers. Caleb will be fine as long as he has WR's that can separate and a decent O-Line. Unfortunately Bryce Young had neither
Playing off script is alot like having great athletic ability at the QB position. It's a great asset to have in the arsenal, but it can't be your go to weapon

I don't really see their games as being too similar. And Teddy Bridgewater was the last pick of the 1st round, so his expectations were waaay lower. So Caleb's circumstances will be a lot different, either in a good way or a bad way, depending on how he performs. He will have a lot more pressure. Teddy was mostly a backup who earned his way to being a starter and had a few solid years before transitioning back to a backup role. Caleb will likely either be really good or a bust, just based on expectations alone.
Yeah there's a big difference between 5'9 vs 6'1, but Caleb looks sloppy it's like all his success is from him scrambling. He gets away with it in college, but he's not that athletic and I don't think it's going to work at the next level where everyone is athletic as him
If I were the Bears, I would stay with Fields. I would use their picks to build the team. I would get linemen, but I would make sure to get Marvin Harrison.
With QB's getting injuries at the drop of a hat, or becoming too expensive, the value of power running backs is going to increase again. Build the team, as SF does, then get a standard QB to run the team. Build from the line of scrimmage out.

It looks like Caleb is 6’ 1”. I think the “perfect” height for a QB is 6’ 4”. Any shorter and seeing over the line is harder, any taller and he’s probably not quite as coordinated. I think a lot of QBs have succeeded at around 6’ 2”.
I saw an interview today with a former GM. He amplified what we just saw, to win consistently in the NFL you have to be an excellent pocket passer who can process information quickly and hit small targets when receivers break open. Justin Fields has over 2000 rushing yards in three years. Bears don't need Fields 2.0 unless they can make Williams into an excellent pocket passer and he has to break the structure when he has little choice but to scramble. Dan didn't really say much about Williams as to whether he also can be a more traditional NFL quarterback because USC's offense didn't really give him much of a chance.

My opinion on Caleb Williams is this I do really think he’ll be good in the nfl I know a lot of people knock him and see he’s going to be a bust but I don’t agree one thing I think is people may overrate him just a little in what they’re getting I think his floor is Kyler Murray (plus he reminds me a lot like him his running style playmakinf ability etc.) and his ceiling being top QB pat mahomes. So your either getting a taller Kyler Murray which Kyler by no means is trash he’s a good qb but hasn’t quite lived up his number one overall selection or you get a better Kyler that in time can ascend to that top 5-3 quarterback conversation and actually be comparable to mahomes
As far as Drake Maye I really like him as well as a prospect I like both him and Williams I believe Mayes ceiling is Josh Allen/ Justin Hebert while his floor being Daniel jones. If you can coach him and develop him even more he can ascend just like Caleb to the top ten QB nfl conversation

USC's offensive line was garbage providing absolutely no time for Caleb to throw. Also, most of their receivers this year (with no Jordan Addison) did not get separation, so he had to improvise until they got open. Their defense was one of the worst in college football, so Caleb had the pressure to score on every possession. Mahomes was the luckiest college QB in history getting drafted by KC, learn for a year and trained by Andy Reid. If Caleb was their QB, he could do what Mahomes does. He is that good.

I've watched every game of Caleb's since he came off the bench at OU vs Texas. He absolutely loves to play in structure taking the quickest, open read whenever possible. Unfortunately, the team lacks offensive line talent and development. It's actually a HIGHLIGHT of his game. That's why he on average spreads the ball around to 9 pass catchers a game. NINE. He doesn't care where the ball goes so long as it's the correct read. This fool is regurgitating social media stuff, and only watching highlights. Watch the games. I'm not concerned though, he's a media guy, not a GM. Zero chance Caleb doesn't go first. There are levels to this. And he'll be viewed at the top.

The test supposedly measures things like processing skills. That was the only concern people had and with his success should mean that the S2 testing people should go out of business

I think Russell Wilsons success as a 5' 10" QB was what really helped those other QBs get drafted high. Drew brees too but Drew was at least listed at 6'. I just remember a lot of people saying Russ was a 1st round talent but his height made him 3rd-4th. Then he had instant success and all of a sudden no one was hesitating with shorter QBs and height wasn't as talked about, but I think GMs and coaches may be getting cold feet again.
Everyone is hoping their next smaller QB is the next Drew Brees but I think people forget just how special Drew was on the field. He was doing things most people on this planet can't do. Regardless of height.

My worry with him is more mental than physical. I think he has the physical tools to succeed. He seems immature to me and no matter how physically talented you are, you have to put in a lot of mental work and be able to handle criticism. With rare exceptions, every QB struggles at first. Can he handle it and is he willing to put in the mental work to succeed? I have my doubts.

Do we agree that team "scouts" and sports analysts have got it wrong so often in predicting what determines QB success in the NFL, for YEARS? If so, can we discuss what metrics are being used and how there maybe should be other or different metrics used to evaluate NFL success? How does everyone miss Brock Purdy? How does everyone miss Kurt Warner? How does everyone miss Jake Browning? How does everyone think Bryce Young, Zack Wilson, Carson Wentz, are "the guy"? Is it as much of a crap shoot as it appears? That'd be an analysis to investigate.
A lot of it has to do with teams not being able to develop the QB they invest in and surround him with pieces and set him up to succeed, most good QBs go to awful teams and throw him right in the fire and then they give up on the kid after 2 Seasons, you mentioned Purdy and Warner, what they have in common is that they went to teams that were already set up to win and just needed a QB, it’s been shown that QBs who sit and QBs that go to teams that are already set up to succeed tend to do better than QBs that are thrown right into the fire
Personally I think it will always be a crap shoot. But one thing I'd look for above all else is Character. Is he a leader? How does his team mates feel about him. Is he immature like Kyler, which seems to me to be the case with Caleb. Also an important aspect is can he control his ego? Plus a big part of it should be his Football IQ.

I agree that teams miss on QB more than any other position, but at the same time it's way too early to call Browning a success. He had the benefit of learning on the bench for a few years and now that he is playing he was fortunate to land on a really talented offense. I watched almost every game he played in college. He was awesome his sophomore season when he was surrounded by NFL talent, but the other years he was much more ordinary, because he's got a limited arm and limited mobility. I was not surprised when he went undrafted.

I will say, height was mentioned as a potential issue for Jalen Hurts and Baker Mayfield, who are also 6'1" .... Has nothing to do with build, I don't think. Generally, the concern is that "shorter" players will sometimes have trouble seeing over the lineman / getting their passes batted down. But I agree with you that it makes a lot more sense to discuss that as a problem for Kyler Murray and Bryce Young (or even Russell Wilson) since those guys are 5'10"/5'11"

I agree with you though, that I have never thought of size as being an issue with Caleb Williams. It's more the emotional side and whether he can perform under a pro-style offense (somewhat of an unknown) that worries me. He seems to have the propensity, but it is still a little bit of a question mark.
Russell Wilson is 5'11 and Drew Brees is barely 6' on a good day and they were able to win a super bowl so the argument that short QBs don't do well in the NFL is invalid. Also, there are tall QBs in the NFL who has never won a super bowl nor did anything significant with their career so the argument is once again invalid.

He was speaking as much about in and out of structure...Brees was prototypical IN structure and Wilson is prototypical OUT OF structure.
Wilson benefited from Marshawn Lynch and their great defense and has had less success when both of those were gone.
The thing with the NFL is OUT OF/IMPROV QB's have the most trouble in late round playoffs and Super Bowl as the opponents/defenses get better and are more able to force them to stay in the pocket and throw to win games.
No it isn't always that way but fact is IN STRUCTURE QB's have gone further in recent years than OUT OF QB's.
Lamar is probably the best example of that....amazing player, love the guy, was dearly hopeing he would beat the Chiefs, regular season multiple MVP, hasn't made it to a AFC Championship game.

So much of success is outside the young players control. The offensive scheme, quality of coaching, the talent around him, mood of the franchise. Star or bust, IMO is less than 50% about Williams.

I think if JF plays steady good it warrants keeping him. Cause hey, the second 1st pick two years in a row is just too good not to convert in multiple picks 2024 and beyond. To throw that away for a smaller QB who has not convinced all the experts would be criminal. You deal with a team who has a top 10 pick and then see how the dice fall. Obviously, you need to get the right players like maybe an OT, edge rusher and such. But I also don't think you need MHJ. Is he generational? Sure. Does that warrant using a valuable pick on him? No. You got a great WR with DJ Moore and you can get one of the better receivers out of college to add to your roster in Washington's Odunze or one of the players from Florida state.
Never forget that despite the flaws of JF he played under Nagy in his first year, with a filleted team (offense and defense) the 2nd (and crap coaching) and also was hurt for a few games this year (and the coaching was suspect at times, too). I say you give him another year and if it doesn't happen then get one of the QBs coming out in 2025. Should be a few good ones among them.
Dan on BS cj stroud is the only qb from Ohio state that has really panned out size and height doesn’t matter anymore if u can spin it u will succeed there are successful qbs from all height and sizes nowadays
I mean I do think height still matters-I think that's definitely one of the things that has limited Russell Wilson (and if you look at the types of passes Wilson throws FAR less often than his peers ... it's the passes you'd expect that he'd have trouble seeing).
Guys like him only know to regurgitate what's being said in media circles. And because of this, they won't project Stroud as "by far the best quarterback" before the draft because "he plays in structure." They will, however use these ideas, after they have been proven, to prove a point. It's disingenuous content but actually good practice because it's exactly what the viewers want.

Need a true scat back. Draft Marvin Harrison and continue fixing weapons. Aim for kmet as a 4th option next year and this offense thrives. Too many picks to spin wheels acting like the team wasn’t blown up week 6 last year (Roquan trade proceed to give up 77 in 6 quarters). I Wanted Bijan a Bear last year.

Brady and many others through history have proven it’s more important what’s going on from the neck up. Many have had massive athleticism, but fall flat because the mental game isn’t there. I hope the kid succeeds but no one is talking about the massive red flags mentally. I wouldn’t draft him above Maye or Daniels. Definitely would keep Fields for multiple reasons. Fields has all the same physical talents and has proven a class act and mentally tough under adversity. And you can also get a massive haul for the #1 pick that can building a winning team for a decade.
Height wise is not a big deal. But his arm talent and IQ on the field is without question. He is also not a running QB. Ya, he would run short yardage plays around the goal line but that’s it. He is thick for his size and leg strength is incredible. The scrambling he does waiting for a defense to breakdown and throwing on the run is what makes him so special.
He plays in the pac 12. Let’s see him do this in the nfl before we call him special .

I can handle Caleb being 6ft, he's not the absolutely tiny 5'8" that Bryce and Kyler are playing at. The only thing saving Kyler is he can scramble like a chicken until these injuries start piling up.
My problem with his tape is he either is hitting guys that are open by 10ft or scrambling and making plays. Neither of those two things will happen often in the NFL. Caleb Williams isn't what I want for a QB on my Bears. There are so many red flags to draft him at #1 overall. We can pick up so much more if we trade back that first pick for multiple picks or a stud player from another team. The great part is that team we trade back with is giving up a high first round pick the next year so they might even gift us a first overall pick the next year. Think of trading back to the Raiders or Giants and getting Max Crosby or Thibedeux back instead of their #1 pick 2 years from now while retaining their next years #1 pick. Getting a bad teams first round pick and a stud player who is vetted as being really good is much better than picking Caleb who we don't know if he will turn out to be a good player. Most QBs are busts that are picked and I would rather pick up a couple more great players that start on the team than take a lotto chance at a position that has a decent player in it already who is continuing to improve each year. Caleb may be a superstar but the only way it is worth it to pick him up and give up the rest of the players is if he turns out to be a Mahomes, Burrow, Stroud type of player. Those are only 1 player in each of their drafts and the rest of the players drafted at QB with them are just journeyman or busts.

Believe it or not along with being a quarterback he’s also a human being that happens to be very close to his mom. You along with a ton of others had seen him lack mental toughness on the field at other times before this and as soon as you saw this your bias made you go straight to ‘this 22 year old is a p’ more or less. The Bears don't have an improvisational offense at all. It's not a running QB system in general. That's not what they drafted Justin Fields to do.
It's what they're forced to have him do because he's not dangerous as a pure passer.
Bringing in Caleb Williams to replace Justin Fields would be nonsense. If they jettison Fields it's because they want a more conventional pocket passer who only runs when needed. That's what they thought Fields was going to be.
If Fields stays then maybe the Bears bring in a coordinator with a more flexible system, or maybe Fields continues to progress as a passer. But they're not going to drop Caleb Williams into the offense that doesn't work that well with Fields and expect Williams to make it work.

Good NFL defenses don't give QBs easy reads, don't allow them to hold the ball, and a program like Ohio State that's chock-full of NFL prospects doesn't need the QB to anticipate throws the way great NFL offenses do.
Fields is a terrific passer against bad NFL defenses, just like he was a terrific passer against college defenses. But against good NFL defenses, where something is always taken away, he is hit or miss at best.
That's the jump that Fields was *supposed* to make this year. Maybe it's the jump that he will make next year. Maybe not.
@thevoxdeus It's funny that people expect him to make a jump his SECOND year in an offense when guys like Josh Allen and Jaylen Hurts didn't make the jump until their THIRD year in the system. There's no such thing as " holding a ball too long"....you hold the ball as long as the offensive line will allow you to. NFL QBs do it all the time. I saw several games this week where the QB held the ball for 4 plus seconds on multiple plays. If the offensive line is not capable of providing that protection, then an adjustment to play calling and strategy needs to be made. Once again, that is a COACHING issue. Justin is not calling multiple screen plays in a row. He's not the one being predictable and nonsensical with the game planning and play calling. Hes not the one settling for field goals when they have opportunitiesfor touchdowns. He's simply trying to make plays with what he was given. At least HALF of Justin Fields' losses can be attributed to COACHING. Let's not forget that the Bears were ACTIVELY tanking for at least half of last season. If the Bears had chosen to draft CJ Stroud last year, he would suck under these same circumstances.......like I said. Coaching matters.

I don't really see their games as being too similar. And Teddy Bridgewater was the last pick of the 1st round, so his expectations were waaay lower. So Caleb's circumstances will be a lot different, either in a good way or a bad way, depending on how he performs. He will have a lot more pressure. Teddy was mostly a backup who earned his way to being a starter and had a few solid years before transitioning back to a backup role. Caleb will likely either be really good or a bust, just based on expectations alone.

It looks like Caleb is 6’ 1”. I think the “perfect” height for a QB is 6’ 4”. Any shorter and seeing over the line is harder, any taller and he’s probably not quite as coordinated. I think a lot of QBs have succeeded at around 6’ 2”.
I saw an interview today with a former GM. He amplified what we just saw, to win consistently in the NFL you have to be an excellent pocket passer who can process information quickly and hit small targets when receivers break open. Justin Fields has over 2000 rushing yards in three years. Bears don't need Fields 2.0 unless they can make Williams into an excellent pocket passer and he has to break the structure when he has little choice but to scramble. Dan didn't really say much about Williams as to whether he also can be a more traditional NFL quarterback because USC's offense didn't really give him much of a chance.

My opinion on Caleb Williams is this I do really think he’ll be good in the nfl I know a lot of people knock him and see he’s going to be a bust but I don’t agree one thing I think is people may overrate him just a little in what they’re getting I think his floor is Kyler Murray (plus he reminds me a lot like him his running style playmakinf ability etc.) and his ceiling being top QB pat mahomes. So your either getting a taller Kyler Murray which Kyler by no means is trash he’s a good qb but hasn’t quite lived up his number one overall selection or you get a better Kyler that in time can ascend to that top 5-3 quarterback conversation and actually be comparable to mahomes
As far as Drake Maye I really like him as well as a prospect I like both him and Williams I believe Mayes ceiling is Josh Allen/ Justin Hebert while his floor being Daniel jones. If you can coach him and develop him even more he can ascend just like Caleb to the top ten QB nfl conversation

USC's offensive line was garbage providing absolutely no time for Caleb to throw. I've watched every game of Caleb's since he came off the bench at OU vs Texas. He absolutely loves to play in structure taking the quickest, open read whenever possible. Unfortunately, the team lacks offensive line talent and development.
It's actually a HIGHLIGHT of his game. That's why he on average spreads the ball around to 9 pass catchers a game. NINE. He doesn't care where the ball goes so long as it's the correct read.
