Thank you for an informative video. I'm a Londoner & have been living in Iceland for 2 years. The swimming pools play a big part of Icelandic culture. Rain, wind or snow, the pools are always busy with the locals & should be experienced by every visitor. Coming from the Uk I understand how 'prudish' we are, so it is very important to give the correct info. The pools & spa's country wide have women only & men only changing rooms & showers. There are no mixed showers & no mixed changing rooms. So please come & enjoy.
THANks lovebirds for sharing this video!! My wife and I will be going their 1st time in March and we are Super Excited!! Thanks for this Raw and truthful video about Tips!! truly helps alot..the video was very informative, straight to the point, smooth transitions and amazing views! 👏 always good to see a video like yours vs the other ones..no trip is perfect but definitely a learning experience!ps: you guys aren't pathetic! lol cheers!
Normal geothermal pools scattered around Iceland in most if not all towns here use chlorine in their pools. We just use less then in other countries where you are not required to shower thoroughly before entering. :)
All, excep one, local swimming pools in Iecalnd are cirulating water. Tati is due to healty regulations. There is no other way to keep control of substances in the water. The more clients swimmingpools get, who has not showered thorugly without swinning clotes, the more -unhealthy the water get. In simple words, it is almsot the same water in icelandic public swimming pools. So respect othe guest´s and clean yourself, before enter.
I was several time there on a cruise ships, the Blue Lagoon is great also in the winter, but you need rubber shoes to go from the building to the water!
As an Icelander I have always taken á shower before swimming people are not looking at the other people in the showers I amit that I sometime wanted to skip them but its good to be clean you wash your hair after swimming and we absolutely love our hot water just remember no one is starting except maybe children
You're not pathetic. We rented a camper van but had Airbnb or hotels for each night. One night I had to share a room with my best mate who snored crazy loud, so I slept in the camper van. I thought I might freeze to death and this was in Sept.
Awesome tips! Quick question about the showers, is it literally everyone male and female all in the same general shower or do they at least separate us that way lol?
Wow, I’m kinda surprised people of the same gender are so concerned with being naked in front of each other…..growing up, the coaches FORCED us starting in the 6th grade after PE ( gym class) to walk in the open showers, there was NO exeptions, atleast that was the rule for the boys….so by the time we were in high school athletics, it was really no issue. My wife says the girls had some type of shower curtain, and were not forced?
You're welcome! It would be great to go in summer if we ever go again, we've heard it's like a different country landscape wise so I'm sure you'll have a great time 🙂
We’re you in Iceland in the month of April? I have a trip booked for April 2023 and it’s nice to see what the weather will be like or what it might be like.
We were there 19th of March to 3rd of April, so almost. We found there was a lot of snow and it was very cold when we arrived but by the time we left it was still cold but a lot of snow had melted and the weather was better. So it definitely got warmer by the beginning of April so hopefully the weather won't be too bad then 👍
First of all nice information. I am traveling to Iceland in September. I have couple of question. I am planning to rent campervan, Can i know which campervan did you both rent ? secoundly, Which month did you travel ?
Hi glad to hear you're heading to Iceland! We used a company called Camp Easy to hire our camper and we went in the second half of March so just coming into Spring out of Winter 🙂
Hey guys, thanks for the tips much appreciated. What month were you there? I’m planning a week trip in March next year and curious what conditions to expect.
Hey we were actually there from mid-March to the beginning of April so exactly the same time as you! For what it's worth though our glacier guide when we did the glacier walk said that had been one of the warmest springs he could remember so maybe prepare in case it's a little colder than in our video! Hope that helps 😃
Actually there is chlorine in Icelandic swimmingpool water, so the bathing policy has nothing to do with this. Still there are many natural pools and bathing that are not chlorinated.
Hey we ended up mostly just hanging them over the radiator in a hotel room 🙈 we did also use the heater in the van in the same way to speed up the drying
Hiii guys, thanks aloooooooooooooootttttt for the tips. It means alot. Please can u guide me as am going solo to Iceland this august. But I donno to drive car to cover ring road, please can u tel me how to travel in public transport in ring road it would be helpful very much.
Hi thanks very much for your comment! There is public transport that goes around the ring road, mostly buses which can be booked by apps. We didn't actually use them ourselves because we had a car but this website: www.visiticeland.com/article/public-transport/ has some good information and links to the bus companies websites. Hope that helps 🙂
@@twoweirdbeans4077 thankuuuuuuuuuuuuuu sooooooooo much 🙏It really means alot to me, I am trying to find out a way but was failing, now I got some hope because of ur guidance. Thanku very much. Please stay safe have a good day
This is so innerly wrong. We don't shower in public. But we shower before we go to swimmingpools, where women from some month to 90 years old are in a special places - shower rooms.
Admittedly we didn't mention the month but we do say in the intro that we visited at the end of winter/ beginning of spring. We were there end of March into early April 👍

Really great tips! Those thermal baths looked so inviting
Thanks! They were incredible 😍
I was several time there on a cruise ships, the Blue Lagoon is great also in the winter, but you need rubber shoes to go from the building to the water!
Is that because it's so cold? 🥶
As an Icelander I have always taken á shower before swimming people are not looking at the other people in the showers I amit that I sometime wanted to skip them but its good to be clean you wash your hair after swimming and we absolutely love our hot water just remember no one is starting except maybe children
That's so true that most people aren't looking at other people. Everyone is too concerned with themselves to be looking at other people! 🙂
You're not pathetic. We rented a camper van but had Airbnb or hotels for each night. One night I had to share a room with my best mate who snored crazy loud, so I slept in the camper van. I thought I might freeze to death and this was in Sept.
That's genuinely very nice to hear that someone else did the same thing! It's not just us 🙈 Definitely don't blame you!
Great video guys👍👍👍
Awesome tips! Quick question about the showers, is it literally everyone male and female all in the same general shower or do they at least separate us that way lol?
Thank you! No they do separate male and female don't worry 😅
I was about to ask the same thing 😅

No men and women seperate

Is the bath water warm to shower? I am going during winter time so it will be unbearable if it is cold water.
Yes it was warm like any other public shower 🙂

thanks for the tip btw..
Thank you 😁
Blue lagoon is a tourist trap. 7 years ago i remember smelling blue lagion like a rotten egg but now you dnt smell it anymore
It is very touristy but definitely no smell anymore. Still worth a go I think 😁
Sorry the part which you said after welcome to became unintelligible, can you write it here?
Ah we just said 'welcome to Two Weird Beans in Iceland', just welcoming to our channel :)
one quick question, how did you dry your cloths ?
Hey we ended up mostly just hanging them over the radiator in a hotel room 🙈 we did also use the heater in the van in the same way to speed up the drying

I may not have noticed watching the video, but I think there is a reason to mention that all public baths in Iceland have gender-segregated areas.
Yes that's true, we didn't mention it but quite right 👍
Never rent a camper van during winter
Unless it has an excellent heater and insulation! 😅
I do not understand why people take the time to make these videos then don't bother to say what time of the year they visited? Super annoying 😒
