This video is EXCELLENT! You just earned a subscription. 😃👍
Awesome, thank you!
Yeah, me also.
That flap-sanding trick alone is worth the price of admission.
Who knew rubber bands were the unsung hero of the woodworkers shop. Awesome tricks.
Rubber bands have to be one of the best clamps that are under used, and simply don’t think of it.
Awesome tips as always.
They really do come in handy quite often
Rubber band clamps something every kid that built a model airplane used 50 years ago. Don't ask me how I know this . Also the dowel sander also works with scotch bright to polish holes made in metal pieces.
Rubber bands are great clamps for a lot of purposes. And if you need a very large band, you can tie a loop in a length of rubber hose.
Best dollar I've ever spent. Rubber band on squeeze clamp. Thanks Izzy
For stronger, more durable rubber bands you can cut up used inner tubes. They come in all different sizes and you can cut them radially to get rings at whatever width you need or cut them along the circumstance into long strips which are handy for clamping odd shapes.
Make friends at a local bike shop and you can probably get an assortment of busted tubes for free or cheap
Izzy you been around a long time and you are truly an innovative, knowledgeable, and very talented maker. Much respect.
Very kind of you to say. Thank you very much.
I would even further. He is simply a genius. YES you are 😊. I hope you realize that, Izzy. And you seem to be a very friendly person too.
Izzy you are like the Dali Lama of shop tips. There are lots of tips are posted on the web that help you do one thing once in a while. But your tips are actually helpful every day....or at least every week or two. That edge banding tip alone was awesome. No more strips of tape hanging off my sleeves.
love those sanding hacks. Will use that on my next sculpture for sure!
As a professional mechanic I actually have a squirt bottle of dish soap and water at my toolbox. It’s great for slipping hoses back on cars and you can spray your hands and wash with it if you’re not near a sink. Lots of great tips in this video Izzy!
That's a great idea! Thank you for watching
Loved turning the dowel into a flap disk. Definitely a game changer for handsanding. As for sandpaper on painting stick, I apply sand paper on a reciprocating saw blade without the teeth and makes quick work out of sanding in between areas. Just don’t go full blast with saw.
I liked the magnet and the flap sander. Simple and easy, and I would not have thought of it myself.
The Magnet and Flap Sander. Isn't that a pub in Stepney?
One of those videos that have us saying,' why didn't I think of that'. Thanks brutha
So glad you liked it
Damn! That mag switch hack and spring clamp with rubber bands ….. ugh amazing
sweet, glad you liked it
Rubber bands, magnets & Velcro! Brilliant, just brilliant, thanks!
Glad you liked it
Great video, great tips. Now I just have to remember them. Hahaha. The pinking shears are a great idea.
I put some rubber band edge clamps in my cart for a project where I need to do a lot of edge banding, but haven't paid yet. Now I can empty my cart and use the 50 spring clamps I already own. brilliant idea! Thank you
Hey Izz!
I notice that you incorporate quite a bit more humor into your vids since you got your back fixed. Funny how that sort of thing helps one's disposition.
thanks for the valuable tips.. hugs and a happy 2023
These were some of the best tips I've seen on RUclips. Thanks for sharing them.
WOW, Thank you!
These are some awesome tips! I never thought of the rubber band around pliers before. I was a mechanic for 18 years and wish I had known about this trick before now; I changed careers two years ago.
thank you for the comment! Happy New Year
I have two pairs of circlip pliers for just that, the kind with changeable heads and put the head on so it’s squeeze to open
such a refreshing change from all the videos from "Supposed" experts, promoting all the latest expensive rubbish that even commercial makers never buy.
Great tips video. That flap sander is pure genius. I will definitely use that.
You have all new surfaces if you put your drill in reverse.
Glad you liked it!!
Simple to complicated. Izzy never stops thinking. He is not trapped in this is how we always do it.
Great Ideas. Thanks.
Already my favorite RUclips channel for woodworking! Thanks!
Wow, thanks!
I knew there was a better way! Thanks Izzy!
dude the squeeze clamps + rubberbands and mag switch is an awesome ideas. worth my subscription and notifications...
Great, Thank you very much!
The mag switch blew my mind! All were great tips, thank you so much.
Thank you for this video, for sharing all these really surprising ideas, a big thank you, it will be useful to me in my workshop. Take care of yourself. Happy New Year😄✌
Office rubber bands work well with so many out of the office scenarios.
That sandpaper flapper is also cool.
Used many variations of those back in my machine shop days working on various internal diameters.
anybody else feel stupid cause you haven't done a few of these and didn't even think of them?
Almost every tip I sat there going," son of a b*tch..."
No.
The magnet on the bolt for holding the washers made me really feel like I've wasted probably hours of my life assembling things the hard way
Absolutely! Rubber bands on a spring clamp….It’s gotta be the genesis of the “Bandy Clamp” sold by …. .
I have done the picking shears with a used gift card to spread the glue when I glued two sheets of plywood to make my workbench top.
These "tips" are ridiculous! They are ridiculously simple. An even more ridiculous i hadn't thought of them 20 years ago! Thanx Izzy, ur the man! 👊🏿
Mag switch great for steel bolts, for s/s bolts dab CA glue washer/nut together.
Put masking tape on one side of spanner to stop nut falling through.
Put masking tape on sanding stick before using double sided tape/ spray glue to stick sandpaper on makes replacement easier.
9:16 You can also use old sanding sponges wrapped with sand paper. It works well on tight spaces & wonders on contours. Sand paper lasts much longer than the sand sponges & costs less, plus some styles have different angles which can also be beneficial.
Thought this guy was a homeowner hack, glad I watched. I’ve subscribed
I love all the blues rock on woodworking RUclips. It's like the soundtrack for recruiting a cowboy to fight in a Call of Duty game
I rarely watch "tips and tricks" videos. For some reason, I decided to watch this one, and boy am I glad I did. Great tips, thanks!
Thanks for the tips. I was about ready to buy a bunch of 'bandy clamps' until I added them to my cart and saw the price. Never mind! I used rubber bands and cheap spring clamps. They worked great and saved me $$$$
Izzy, great tips and tricks. Thank you for sharing. And saving money too. More money for wood! Woo Hoo!!!
Muchas gracias por compartir...saludos cordiales desde Aguascalientes, México!!
Just when I thought I'd seen all the tricks, you hit me with 10 more. You're like the David Blaine of woodworking.
Instead of using soapy water, I use aerosol window cleaner. It makes less of a mess, is really convenient to use, and evaporates quickly.
Your in a hurry to have the solution to evaporate? Why?
@@binnsbrian because any overspray and mess cleans itself up instead of leaving a puddle on the work table like in the video. Evaporating quickly also means the surface is only slippery while you slide the pieces together and then friction will hold it together while you tighten the clamp. If it dries too quickly just spray a little more right before you push the pieces together.
@@musicalmcbride Well thought out. Happy New Year
I use scraps of plastic laminate (countertop material), with tablesaw slots in them for spreading glue. Costs nothing.
The elastic band tricks were pretty good!
Brilliant! Whether you are a power tool pocket screw joiner or a mortise chisler and dovetail handsawer these tips are brilliant. Thanks Izzy
As always, nothing but great, I am Pushing 70 years young, woodworking since 8 years old, full time since retiring 11 years ago and I always seem to learn something new watching your videos so it is true when they say, when you think you know it all it is now your turn to learn all over again. Excellent tips...
That is awesome! Thank you so much for the comment. I always say i could do this for 500 yrs and still learn something new almost every day. Happy New Year
Great tips! I created sanding files with various grits, and I out the grit number on each stick so I know which one it is. I used spray adhesive instead of velcro. They work great for tighter areas. I should get some rubber bands.
0.0-something-cent hack with rubber band is awesome! thank you!
You are a different breed. Wow, God speed to you in all your aspersions.
Dowel and sandpaper. Yeah! Thanks.
You always deliver with good tips and efficient techniques.
Love the magnet trick very handy!
I just subscribed because of this video. I am not a woodworker yet. But it is something I want to try as I am getting ready to retire. These tips will help me keep the cost down while I figure out if this is what I really want to do. Thank you.
Rather than a jar and a brush to lube the hose and blast gate, I always have a spray bottle with water and Simple Green handy. I use it on my water stones and ceramic Shapton stones, makes a good applicator, slick enough.
Now I need to buy a box of rubber bands for the shop. Thanks Izzy!
they are handy to have
Thank you Izzy. You truly motivate me.
That saving and thus buying more tools logic speaks to me so well. Mmmmmmmm.
Izzy every morning I watch 2 or 3 Woodworking videos for tips and how-to's, you always have great stuff and I enjoy them immensely! I have a small Garage/Shop or is that Shop/Garage... anyway... it's small, for Christmas I got a Bora Centipede and a Mikita Track-Saw... all ready I've made a MDF Dog Hole 2x4 work table and use the other end for a flat 2x4 work station. It has made a big difference in a work area efficiency... I have some cabinet projects where I have to rip some 4x8 sheets of plywood the track-saw will make a big difference along with the Bora Centipede... plus my job site table saw will get a rest. Again, great tips keep up the good work... all the best in 2023 you and Maggie!
This is one of the best DIY videos I've ever seen. Quality content!
Wow, thanks!
@@izzyswan DIY people need to be taught better practices that make sense and are easy to adopt. This is that.
I love your tips and tricks videos! They are so helpful and make me think about how to apply these ideas to even more problems!
Love it I’ll use all those in my shop. Thanks, Izzy.
Few more useful wood shop ideas tips and tricks added to Izzy library
Thank you!!
Fantastic! Love the elastic tips, and the dowel flap sander. I'm going to look for the hand held spindle sander right now. Thanks for sharing.
Yup, rubber band, mega.sonic.BOOM ! Subscribed because the Bear told me.
Awesome! Thanks!
Thank you for this video. I am having to get adaptive with my wood working after a accident, so some of these are really going to be helpful for mono-handing in the shop. The humble rubber band!
Once again your genius shines through.
Great tips. Thank you.
Thanks Izzy!
Love the flap sander idea! Any time I can make a thing for free rather than buying another gadget is a huge win.
These tips are pretty cool! I keep several bondo spreaders around for glueing and for applying raised stenciling compounds (I usually use water putty), so I’ve actually used the tip with the pinking shears. Recently, however, on a trip to Dollar Tree, I noticed a new cake decorating section and bought a few of their thin, flexible icing spreader thingies (I don’t bake, so I’m guessing at the intended use). A couple have varying zigzag edges and there are a few different sizes and shapes to choose from. Just thought I’d share. Y’all have a blessed and happy new year! 😊
Thanks - I was going to mention the dollar store about the cake spreaders - already had the grooves in them
the dollar store is a great place to get cheap things like plastic glasses for mixing epoxy, wooden stirring sticks, playdough for sealing edges on epoxy molds, etc
Always a treasure trove of information! Thanks, Izzy!
My pleasure!
dude the spring clamp trick is genius
Pleasantly surprised that you’re ideas were original for me. 😎👍
Glad you like them!
These are awesome! Thank you!
Glad you like them!
hey yo, notification crew, sound off! love these videos ❤
Thanks Izzy! This was very helpful.
Haha, I LOVE the rubber band clamping idea with F--clamps! I did the same thing with spring clamps to make my own Bandy Clamps
Very cool!
That made me chuckle!
Thanks Izzy, love them all. I've been thinking about one of those handheld spindle sanders for a while. You sold me!
Sickeningly slick in a positive sense.
Great tips Izzy! You always have so much knowledge to share!👍
Thanks so much!
As always, down to earth advice. Your vlog is always appreciated.
Thank you so much 😊
I use all of those except the dowel flap sander trick. But I will definitely be adding that to my wood working tool box when next needed.😎
Awesome video.
Thank you for confirming the masking tape edge hack.
Great tips.Tnx
Today I learned rubber bands are magical. 🦄

Thanks Izzy! Really great tips!
Glad it was helpful!
rubber band spring clamps for edge banding, dowel with sandpaper, really great stuff, will absolutely be using the dowel trick sometime soon. Along with your paint stick sanding file, super 77 and some sheet sand paper is easy peasy and what I use in the shop!
