So from my understanding, when I see vintage emergency vehicles that use their blue lights and sirens during an event such as a parade, vintage vehicle show, or other similar event, it usually falls under the category of Private Land as the shows are being hosted usually on private land or some space that is not directly open to the public during normal circumstances, or that there is some type of official from UK government such as a police officer, fire official, or other government agency granting permission for the use of the alarms?

@@mrnorthwestohiodude7758 If it is an event that is ticketed or charges an entry fee then that it falls under private land and sirens and lights can be used as the public will not have access unless the landowner explicitly gives them permission (tickets). In terms of parades on public roads, there is technically no mechanism for an exemption to be granted, but you are right, it is usually the local police superintendent who will allow the temporary use. Thanks for watching.

I've just found your channel and am enjoying it, but I thought i'd weigh in here as an ex police officer.
With regards to the Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations:
Under the definitions of an emergency vehicle as per Section 3 of the RVLR 1989, you correctly identified that an emergency vehicle is
'A motor vehicle of any of the following descriptions-
(a)a vehicle used for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes'.
However, you didn't pay any heed to the word 'purposes'. As you own a vintage fire appliance and do not use it for fire brigade purposes as part of either a local authority brigade or other such authorised fire brigade, your vehicle is no longer recognised in law as an emergency vehicle.
This has knock on implications because the RVLR 1989 Section 16, again as you correctly identified, states that:
No vehicle, other than an emergency vehicle, shall be fitted with-
(a)a blue warning beacon or special warning lamp, or
(b)a device which resembles a blue warning beacon or a special warning lamp, whether the same is in working order or not.
Because your vehicle is no longer recognised in law as an emergency vehicle it is actually unlawful for the blue lights and sirens to remain fitted, whether working or not.
The police however, recognise that they are integral to the vehicle's look/image/history and its preservation so choose not to prosecute it. It is advised for the blue lights to be covered and sirens disconnected whilst driving on the public highway so that they cannot be seen by the public and there is no possibility of using them. The police are generally happy with that.
Hope this helps and I look forward to seeing her restoration progress!

As someone in the industry and teaches blue light response, you can't simply just put them on. You need appropriate training, insurance and purpose. You would need to be attending an emergency as deployed on behalf of a fire and rescue service. That's the simple explanation without going deep into it.

Sorry to say I think your interpretation of the law is wrong because you are not a "Fire Brigade". You are are private individual with an old fire engine. Furthermore, Fire brigades only use Blues and twos when on an emergency ......not for getting home for tea!

I love the truck but I don't think that I would like driving on the wrong side of the road. I am in the United States and we drive on the Right side of the road.
But all in all it's a very lovely truck.
