The FFV job system is one of the most balanced, creative and fun RPG progression systems ever. It really doesn't get enough recognition for how well done this aspect of the game is. The best skills like Rapid Fire and Dual Cast are locked behind weaker classes which force you to sacrifice power while you level them to become stronger in the end. Even newer games that attempt to recreate the system like Octopath just don't quite get the balance right.

My favourite FF from the 2D era. It doesn't have the strongest story or set of characters, but it is just so much fun to play and colourful and charming. Mastering the jobs and combining them is so addictive and you can play it 10 times and never have the same experience. It has its darker moments, but it's overall very much a feel good FF to me.

Final Fantasy V is just *fun*. Not every game needs to be super serious and heavy, its nice having a game that's a little more lighthearted every now and then!
Also this game is the source of my favorite story about naming a character. When I first played it, back on PS1 in the collection with VI, when Bartz is still named ???? and first encounters Lenna, she asks what your name is, and the wording on his reply in that version was "You can call me..." So I named him Daddy. "You can call me Daddy." The rest of the game was comedy gold, and as such I can't play this game without naming him as such.

This is the best entry in the series. The series has moved to action away from party based combat and it’s not something I’m really interested in now. I like the replayability of 5, the ability to make the game easy or hard as you feel. The different classes really feel different, it really is just a wild adventure reminiscent of the craziness of 1 or 3. Saturday morning cartoon logic to the max with that humor to keep you buzzed about where it could go and ending with a love letter to the friends we have made along the way and something heartwarming to go out on after such a perilous crusade.

Hello Genesis VII. I hope you’re doing well.
I’m currently in progress of getting all 6 platinum trophies in the pixel remaster series and I just started playing 5. So hope you don’t mind helping me out by answering these questions specifically about the Blue Mage.
    1. Is it really true that once I fully mastered the Blue Mage class, I don’t get to learn more enemy abilities?
    2. Which monsters should I keep an eye on whenever I collect the Blue magic?
I really need to know because it’s one of the few missable trophies that I don’t want to make mistakes on.
Thank you the work that you’ve put into the videos. Cheers.

      @GenesisVII  2 месяца назад +1

      No worries! Thanks for watching.
      1. This is indeed true. I think I prevented this by giving the learn ability to another job so I didn’t level up Blue Mage too much.
      2. I followed a guide so I didn’t miss any, if you search FFV steam achievement guide it should be the first one, that helped me grab the spells as I went along

Cloud & Sephiroth does not appear in FFV.
But the reason they are in the start selection of the game is simple to understand.
Square released FFVII on PS1 and it was a big hit, and later on FFVIII came which was also a nice game and had a considerable graphic improovement that gave some spotlight for a series that started up in a console from number 7.
Trying to use the momentum they made two releases.
Final Fantasy Chronicles: Which brought FFIV & Chrono Trigger to PS1 with the extra bit of animations (animated for Chrono, C Grapich for FFIV)
Final Fantasy Anthology: Which brought FFV & FFVI, pointing the issue of the FFIII or FFVI issue for people who were not aware of the jump in number from the Snes era. FFV was first officially coming out of japan and FFVI did not need improvement but just 2 special videos.
For the Anthology they decided to make Cloud & Sephiroth appear as cameos in the start up of FFV and I think just Squall in FFVI.
They are there just as a freebie cameo since they became so popular due to the recent releases of FFVII & FFVIII

I guess the reason Final Fantasy V doesn't get a whole lot of attention in the west is mostly because it arrived so late compared to the others. And even when it did the version that we actually got in the west (Anthology) kinda sucked. The added transitions slowed everything down to a crawl and the absurd load times certainly didn't help either. The Gameboy advance version was superior in almost every respect but well it was released pretty much past the end of the GBAs lifetime. So it probably didn't sell too well either considering the Nintendo DS had already been released for 1 1/2 years at that point. So yeah it was just never really given a chance to shine.

I've always felt this should have been Final Fantasy IV as it felt like the end of the classic NES style, and the actual IV should have been V as it begins deeper story and characters.
Either way, it's a great fun game. Still not up there for me like 4 or 6 out of these, but that has more to do with the silliness than the amazingly fun gameplay.

FFV definitely feels like a direct follow up to FFIII in pretty much every aspect while FFIV and VI are more story and character, so I totally understand why you would feel that way. It's funny because when I played Bravely Default 2 when it came out two years ago, it felt like the natural evolution of FFIII and FFV, like they could be their own series (I never played the first BD, but I assume it would probably apply to that one).

Just don't play the pixel remaster if you can help it. Worse translation, changed job abilities, too many bug fixes, changes to bosses from the original, making less options to cheese bosses and fights (what made the game fun) and the spritework isn't that good. The OG is ok and the GBA version is the best.
Ok so just to give a couple examples:
Atomos in the pixel remaster is no longer effected by dark spark and level 5 death. No clue why they buffed him like this, yet kept exdeath at level 66. (He can be taken out in seconds with 2 blue mages)
It doesn't seem like they wanted to reward players for strategic thinking.
In the GBA version, calm on beastmasters was bugged. It worked on everything that was not a magic beast. This actually made the stop effect more useful, as it wasn't purely situational anymore. You could literally combo it with another character's rapid fire and take out some bosses with it. (Omnicient is one)
