I let the truck warm up! Transmission fluid is checked when it's hot (up to running temperature). As the fluid gets up to temperature it expands. If the fluid is cold, it won't give the proper level reading.
Hey Shawn not sure on ford recommendations, but normally you have a cold transmission fluid level and warm. I’ve been told over the years to drive any vehicle and 5 miles warmed up then check transmission fluid. Have a great day hopefully the 2016 keeps running great.
Hey Shawn, attach a little chain to those knob bolts and hook em on somewhere so if they vibrate loose they will still be there. Use a key chain ring and attach it with that to the knob and just find a place to hook the other end, or just tac weld it to the side somewhere.
So happy that both of your trucks are running,& taking care of business. Y’all do look exhausted, but you’re definitely making some major money,& getting acclimated on what’s to come. Y’all are definitely in my prayers,& please stay safe. Excellent job my friends. Try to relax,& get some rest when you can.💯❤️👍🏾😀🙋🏽♀️✝️🙏🏾🇺🇸
Shawn I would check the transmission fluid with the engine running. It is showing full with the engine off it is definitely low. That would explain why your temp gauge was dropping down because the fluid would drop below them temp probe. That is just my observation from what I saw on the camera. Hope it works out and you get both trucks up.
Highly recommend 2+2 salt cutter for the truck cleaning, and another option to airbags that is cheaper and very reliable as they have no moving parts are timbrens, they are just a big rubber spring that replaces the factory bump stops, they make contact under load to reduce squat… New truck is looking great!!
You should plow those big lots with the plow angled to one side. Start on one side then plow to the other side. Then go back and plow the falloff with the inverted V Seems like you are cleaning win rows all the time.
Watch closer, that's exactly what we did. I win row away from the church and then towards tq in the 22. She was stacking it because of the church bus in the middle of the lot.
That works well on 2-6” snowfalls but if you have a foot of snow your windrow of snow on a big lot will get too big to move in no time. You’re better off straight blading the lot off and then re-plowing angled in one direction.
I guess I missed the problem. Plows pull a ton of juice from stock batteries. I’d recommend an upgraded alternator and dual batteries. Plow prep package helps but newer trucks already have a high electrical demand. Adding the plow only makes it worse.

Anther great video hope you guys are staying safe out there!! I have a vbx and have had the same issue! Take a stainless steel bolt the same size and length as the little knob put a lock washer on it and a little Blue lock tight and thread it in and tighten it down way cheaper and it stays in there!
A fan from Australia, I am watching this snow storm here in Western Australia and we are having 105+ degrees Fahrenheit for the whole week. Wish we could have some of your snow! Thanks for posting and stay safe!
Give Loctite a try on those knobs, the red is the one if you don't need to remove them often. and the blue if you need to get them back off. Awesome job you two are doing. Hope everything stays running as it should.
On your salt distributor - drill some holes out on the flutes of those knobs and run some wire between the upper and lower knob of each side in a manner such that the wire tension causes each knob to tighten and neither knob can back off, in the same fashion aircraft fasteners are safety wired.
I run salt dogg spreaders on all of my trucks and they shift as well. We X our straps side to side instead of front to back and that solved the problem. The poly spreaders slide on truck beds and my flatbeds as well. PS Murphy’s Law, when you’re plowing that much snow, something will always break.
I have saltdogg spreaders on my trucks as well all of them except for one has a little step molded out of plastic, that sits off the end of the bed to stop the salter from moving. The one that doesn’t is just flat, it’s actually the newest one I bought, I don’t know why they would change that design. For salters without the step you have to x the straps like you said and make sure their tight. Also a little tip I took a couple pieces of 2x10 and notched it out to fit between the salter and the wheel well on both sides. It keeps the salter from being able to move side to side
@@DropshotVSGames that’s a good idea for the boards on each side. I use part of the pallet they come on up front so they don’t slide forward ( all of my trucks with factory beds are long beds).
Glad your up and running again, as you know a bit of baking soda and water will neutralize the battery terminal corrosion. Then spray the cleaned off terminals with corrosion preventative. Oh and can you please put a cover on you BBQ grill , will make it last longer too. Keep up the good work!!!
On these bigger lots you should windrow the snow off to on section really helps eliminate all those smaller piles of snow. Once you get to the end of your runs v your plow aswell

Glad you are getting too use the plows and salt spreaders that bobcat would be great if you could tag it along with you for putting it out further away so you can keep stacking the snow
You can save soooo much time, by angleing the plow to the side and side drifting it to the back of the parking lots. It will take 10X longer to go straight on as you get over drift on both sides instead of just one. And with the nuts for the VBX, just use Red Loctite and they shouldn't come off
Man you guy are gonna sleep for a week after things settle down. Lol. Y’all will be ready to go on another vacation somewhere warm. Lol. Guys y’all be careful and stay warm. Your doing amazing work as always. Hope the 16 model doesn’t have too much wrong with it and y’all can get it fixed quickly and inexpensively. I know. Nothing is cheap anymore. Lol. Keep up the great work y’all!!!
Sounds like the 16 got over taxed after hauling and fighting the extra drag from the trailer plus pushing the immense amount of snow put it too the limits. For the knobs could try lock washers or replace with standard bolts. Before people say anything I know the knobs are for easy adjustment but it seems you have it where it needs to be for the season and a $.05 bolt and washer is far easier on the pocket book than a $12 knob if you loose one.
I would suggest installing some wooden blocks between the salt spreader and the truck. So that way even with the vibration it won’t shift to either side. I found that to be helpful with out salt dogg spreader.
Measure the distance between each side of the salter and use 2 x 4 or 4 x 4 boards as spacers to keep it from moving side to side...might help some between them and the straps
try some shock straps on the spreader, may help keep tension on the straps plus they dont have as much slack as some other straps. I love mine but also bolted the salter to the truck as well as straps
Re battery corrosion. It's caused by poor seals around the terminals or top up ports. Acid either liquid or crystals leak out and corrode any metals they contact. Once the start leaking nothing will stop it completely but regular maintenance can minimise it and it's effects. The simplest and easiest is to mix Bicarbonate Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate) and hot water, disconnect the battery leads and immerse their terminals in the solution. They will froth and bubble while the reaction occurs, and it will remove the corrosion products from the terminals which can then be rinsed with hot water. The solution (or a fresh mixture) can then be poured over battery terminals, hold down brackets, nuts bolts etc for a similar reaction, then rinse them as well. A light brushing of all components with a wire brush and repeat treatment will help with stubborn buildups. Once you have noticed corrosion starting, do this every couple of months to keep removing the corrosion, as above, you won't stop a battery forming it once the battery starts leaking, but you can control how it effects the rest of the vehicle. Bicarbonate Soda is safe to handle and available in the baking aisle at the supermarket, it's used in baking. Also great for cleaning and absorbing odours etc.
On the two bolts they keep falling out of the spreader get a piece of cable to hook to that bolt and the hook somewhere where the other hand is out of the way that way when they vibrate out and fall out you won’t lose them and you can keep putting them back in as needed
just looked to see if i missed a video and looks like i have not what has happen to truck 16 that you are fighting with on them thumb screws you are loosing see if your dealer can make you a tether cable on them when they vibrate out they will still be on the tether hope this helps you lawn equipment dealer may have them and just need to drill hole to fix the tether to the spreader
Timbren Bump stops . Simple, passive, very effective to reduce rear squat . And you can do the install yourself easily That said , plowing with the hopper full of two yards of salt ... is alot of weight to be working with, and asking alot of the SRW. .. 2200 pounds per yard.

It help with how much you can haul and keeping you level. It seemed really cool. It might help since your always pulling a trailer or have the salt spreader.
Time to start to consider replacing the 16. As you'd know as a company it's good to turn over the fleet and it's good for tax purposes too. Maybe another Ford or if you like another brand go with them. Have you considered a back plow??
Wonder if your air cleaner filled up with snow on the 16. Had that happen on diesels pickups in snow storms. When your working it hard it sucks a lot of air. Just a thought
I put the timbrens on my f250 and put 4500 to 5000 of salt in it and it handles it just fine. And I put blocks of wood between the wheel well and salter to keep it from sliding side to side.
@@SpencerLawnCare I have Timbrens on the front and rear of both of our plow trucks. They are amazing. No more squat in the front or rear. I put load range E tires on my half ton along with the Timbrens. My half ton handles a 49 bag pallet of salt with no problem. My 3/4 ton handles two tons with minimal squat. You don’t need expensive air bags.
I got that dreaded wrench on my f550 plow truck last plow event and went into limp mode. It’s finally ready to be picked up just in time for some snow on Monday here in Michigan
I but Hellwig pro series ad a springs on my 3/4. They added 2500lbs to the truck and if you add air bags to that you can get about a total of 4000 lbs extra lift. Like some else said make a box for the vbx to sit in to stop it from sliding around
To fix the sagging issue, look into adding an extra leaf on the rear spring packs. Only downside is it may noise dive the truck when it’s not loaded and you can’t adjust the ride height, but it is less maintenance. Nice vid!
My buddy has a "helper leaf" on the rear of his his f150. It doesn't cause the front to nose dive. Of course it was a dealership that installed it for him.
@@stephencooper4987 as a retired truck driver of nearly 15 years, I don't like air bags. Just a lot more things can go wrong than having an extra leaf installed. It all comes down to personal preference. Got to weigh the pros and cons of both. I have a 2019 Colorado Z71 I plan on having an extra leaf installed on the rear. I live in GA and also run a lawn care business solo. I pull a 12' SA trailer that's maxed out on weight. Shawn, go to the hardware store and go to the speciality nut and bolt boxes and pick up some spinner bolts on the cheap. Farm and ranch stores have them also.
Hey hey Spencer’s, that was one heck of a storm yall had, I’m sure yall are super tired, get some rest, and i might add, get some food like meat sticks and water for your truck so if your out and are hungry, you wont have to stop off to make a food run. Just. A thought, have a goodnight Spencer’s
My son's Chevy 4x4 truck scraped snow in our driveway. It was that deep. It is supposed to be Arctic level cold over the next week. Sub zero the next two nights then next week a couple days that cold.
Drill a small hole in the plastic let them warm up first and put strings on in time to the machine run to your truck when they fall off they just hang they don’t go on the ground they stay with you for a bungee or whatever kind of why are you god just to hold them for one they fall off they stay with you means you can put them right back on
Put some backup alarms on those trucks. I could save a life. I know they are annoying. I have mine wired where i pull the ground away with a toggle when i dont want it to come on.
Dang, a ton and a half over the capacity of the truck, thats pushing it a bit. Looks like it handles it ok though. I remember loading my buddies f150 with so much firewood that the front wheels were barely touching, you couldn't steer the truck.😄
You need to bolt that puppy down so it doesn’t slide. That’s a good way to break your straps and lose your load. Also look into air bags. Helps your shocks and leaves
ATTENTION SPENCERS! I'm not going to read all your comments, but, it looks like you have 12 to 14 inches of gap on one side. Split the difference and lay a couple of 2x8 or whatever it takes on each side OR, try cross strapping. Sounds like straps on one side are tighter than the other. Take your straps, make an X with them, and if to still shifts, loosen the short side tighten the long side. Extra two strapped on the long side might help. Good luck to y'all from over youngstown way. 😁😁😁😁👍👍👍👍👍👍
I really enjoy watching your videos. Sean you are very articulate and knowledgeable about your business. Did you go to college for this or are you self taught.
I don’t know exactly what is going on with your truck. The transmission fluid should be checked when warm and the oil when the engine is cold or at least has sat for a while. If you are having charging issues especially your 16. Find your ground strap and take it off and clean it and where it is mounted then reattach it. Use some Dielectric grease and or fluid film there. That could be why your battery is so corroded. You should get rid of all of the corrosion on top of the battery and the hold downs!
Put 2 old tyres beside your spreader to stop it moving ,mother nature making you a dime or two great spencers ,why don't you replace the place spinner top bolts with ordinary bolts ,with a big washer on them ,great video again

I installed air bags on my Ford about 6 years ago and haven't had any problems. For me it's the only way to go.
I'll be upgrading to a 14' TA this year so I can have my ZT and a 36" walk behind loaded at same time.
@@jeremiahkincaid626 I'm seventy two and retired owner/operator ( also was a truck driver)of 40 years. But everyone have different ideas and I'm glad you like springs better. Good luck
Transmission fluid you need to check with the truck running
Thanks man
I would try putting a lock washer to the knob bolts and see if that will help, they're super cheap you can get a handful from tractor supply, home depot, lowes or anywhere that sells stuff like that for like a dollar or 2
Shawn, go to the hardware store and go to the speciality nut and bolt boxes and pick up some spinner bolts on the cheap. Farm and ranch stores have them also.
Take it easy y’all and this snow storm ain’t no joke
Hey hey Spencer’s, that was one heck of a storm yall had, I’m sure yall are super tired, get some rest, and i might add, get some food like meat sticks and water for your truck so if your out and are hungry, you wont have to stop off to make a food run. Just. A thought, have a goodnight Spencer’s
We are about to start working again. Will rest up later!
I’ve gone through bad snow ❄️ for driveways that have “Meals on Wheels” and they won’t deliver the meal unless you have cleared the driveway and steps
Criss cross your straps towards cab, fronts run them to the hooks closest to tailgate and you won't have it slide
My son's Chevy 4x4 truck scraped snow in our driveway. It was that deep. It is supposed to be Arctic level cold over the next week. Sub zero the next two nights then next week a couple days that cold.
Good to see you guys. Be safe out there. Looks like Angel wings. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks Gail
For you 22 350 you should look at active road master suspension there are a lot of videos on it and they are somthing you can do your self
Thank god you got that second truck. That was a blessing. That’s why you need two of everything.
For sure!
You need to bolt that puppy down so it doesn’t slide. That’s a good way to break your straps and lose your load. Also look into air bags. Helps your shocks and leaves
Loose battery terminals can cause lots of electrical problems. Check battery and alternator. Your system is hard on batteries. Great job 😎👍🙏
Get another set of straps and tie each corner down to the box anchors. That should keep the salter from shifting side to side.
Guys for the weight grab the Firestone airbags. They will help with the overloading.
Drill a hole in the black knobs and attach a safety wire to the hopper.
What a difference having two trucks makes!
We don’t have any snow ❄️ in Michigan too bad Brian’s lawn maintenance couldn’t bring his Boss to help out
Shawn and Savanah outstanding job awesome team work be safe and keep warm God Bless. 🙋🏾♀️
I really enjoy watching your videos. Sean you are very articulate and knowledgeable about your business. Did you go to college for this or are you self taught.
Take a small chain or paracord and tie to the knobs to something. When they come lose and fall they just dangle there
I don’t know exactly what is going on with your truck.
U could glue a piece of fishing line to the black screws and then tie it on somewhere that way when they come loose u won't lose them
Use loctite glue or water resistant glue on the any thing vibrating loose hope it helps you save $$$
Hot water works good to clean the terminals. Dump a cup on them and it takes the corrosion off.
I remember during the early 70s my dad ran 48 hours before he got to bed, two big storms came in back to back
Don't spend $12 on those knobs, they are available at most hardware stores / home centers. Try putting a lock washer on with them.
Love the videos Shawn! Keep up the great work!!
TQ needs a name change for winter. I suggest SPQ=snow plow queen! 😀💕 Ooops! I commented too soon. Great minds think alike! 🤣
Dude get a OBD2 scanner stop guessing and get one that has live data also, very useful!
Put 2 old tyres beside your spreader to stop it moving ,mother nature making you a dime or two great spencers ,why don't you replace the place spinner top bolts with ordinary bolts ,with a big washer on them ,great video again
Can you add a washer and lock washer to keep those from falling off? That should solve the problem for you all.
You need to put a headache Rack on that truck ASAP! That salt spreader or other equipment could kill you should it become lose ! I mount my strobe on top of the rack ! Magnum , Backrack , Dee Zee made some nice ones !
