As a Paramedic with 16 years of EMS experience... this is my advice. It’s rewarding but the pay/benefits aren’t really that great. You’re young, work towards becoming a Doctor or even a nurse. There are Nurses that work in the field like Paramedics and get paid a lot more with better benefits. But if it is your dream to be an EMT, and you’re not doing it for the money, go for it.
Performance Tactical Gaming hahaha listen to this guy. EMT’s don’t make much. I get paid 15.50 an hour to deal with some very stressful and unpleasant circumstances at times. I love the job and I’m young so it works but when I want to have a family or live a little better I’ll have to make the change.
Many thanks for the video. So different to here in Australia where it's 3 years university then one year as an intern before you can be a "Registered Paramedic".

I've been a pharmacy technician for 24 years and have gotten nowhere with it (every HR department has slammed the door in my face). Instead, I volunteer in a hospital twice a week which has allowed me to keep my BLS certification active for free. Then last year, I was traveling around the country, working at vaccination clinics for FEMA. I learned that I enjoy working with a variety of people and not staying inside a building all day. Tremors in my hands would probably make it difficult to start IVs, so I probably won't be a paramedic. However, I'm currently being vaccinated for Hep B and when I can sign up for the spring class, get a TB test. (Both are requirements in Washington state)

Going into my senior year of high school this year and heavily considering becoming a paramedic. I'm wondering if college is necessary and if so what exactly do I study?
I would start by taking an EMT Class locally, this doesn't require college at all. Once you complete your EMT and start working you can then go from there. A bachelor's degree/traditional college I don't recommend for starting off in EMS. EMT Class first. You can prep for your EMT class/EMS with my online video course here in the meantime: www.prepareforems.com Be Great! Evan, The Paramedic Coach

Hey Steve, not sure where you live in the world but in the US, an EMT Program is usually 3 months/12 weeks and Paramedic programs are 12-18 months, then if you WANT to pursue a degree you can after while working and getting experience.
in most places you don’t need a degree. my cousin is an EMT and everything only took 1 semester for him to complete it. (depending on where you live) you need to be CPR certified, finish EMT school, take the test and pass, and get state certified so you can actually become an EMT
What I did was get my EMT certification, gained a little under a year of experience, then went to paramedic school, and got the certificate. THEN started working as a paramedic, while I was working as a paramedic knocked out the associate degree online. But that entire time was gaining experience. If you can get the cert first and start work faster, go for it.
I've always had a obsession on Medics, Firefighters, Police. One of the reasons was Power Rangers. Most notably Lightspeed Rescue. Also Real Wheels There goes a... With Dave & Becky. As well as Power Rangers S.P.D...
Here in Quebec, we have the most backward EMS system you can think of. It takes a 3 year program to become a Primary Care Paramedic (which is basically an EMT-B: can give oxygen, aspirin, nitro, naloxone, Ventolin, epinephrine). An ambulance carries two EMT-Bs. Advanced Care Paramedics, which you would simply call paramedic, are practically non-existent here aside from two cities, Montreal and its suburb city, Laval, in which they only exist as pilot projects. Currently, we only have 10 advanced care paramedics working in Quebec. It requires a 2 year university major on top of the 3 year degree to become an EMT-B and the minimal 2 years of work experience as an EMT you have to go through before being able to apply to the university. 5 years in total (minimally) if you want to be an actual paramedic.
It's always been my dream to be a paremedic I'm only 12 I'm in 7th grade and I'm doing research about it and my dad was a fire fighters but no one in my family has been a paremedic and I'm probably going to be the first and my mom's been really supportive of my dream and I'm hoping to save lives just like my dad did and I've even gave up my phone just so I can focus more on school I love what people do for the community and I think I should give back by helping the community to
Thanks for watching! Welcome to the channel, absolutely! Many FD have a EMT response or must be trained as an EMT to work in the field, now-a-days it's rare to see the FD not cross trained into EMS.
@@TheParamedicCoach thank you 🙏 was wanting to get into fire fighting but figured I would start out slow and become a emt for a start and build upon that.
I want to become an emt/paramedic to help people and I’m a freshmen in high school currently and I just stated a public safety program this year at a technical school and it’s stressful; the work, the teaching, and the fact that I don’t know if I’ll be able to handle it in the real world. Any tips?
I’m 17, turning 18 this year, and I don’t know how to get started on becoming a paramedic. Should I call a fire station and ask about the programs they have ? Thank you !! Your video helped with many other questions I had !
Hey my friend, I just left a message on your other comment, I'll copy and paste it here for you too! No you don't my friend. The first step is joining a local EMT class and passing that. Next, you will gain some experience working in the field as an EMT, then you can applying to Paramedic school, which for example you can find a certificate course at a local community college or EMS academy. You be a licensed Paramedic and no training as a firefighter, two separate jobs. Be Great, Evan, The Paramedic Coach
EMT B was interesting. I thought EMT/B was not too difficult and passed fairly easily...then I graduated to EMT/P School thinking it would also be a breeze...LOL!! Paramedic School is giving up basically a year of your Life. Very difficult. But, I felt like I really accomplished something.
is there any odd ball career paths a paramedic can take? Contracting? Anything high paying? Working with the military overseas? Working with the swat team?
Hey Robert, Absolutely, I'm going to recommend you follow up on this video and watch it right here; SWAT = Yes that's a tactical Medic High Paying = Yes, depends on EMS system and state Military = 68W is a Army Medic (Did a video with another channel, Ben Allen on that) Offshore & Contracts over seas = YES Once you get your Paramedic the doors open up, follow up and watch these two videos. You can do it!
i graduate high school in 2 days. and my dream is to become an EMT ever since i was little 🥺
Would you say it’s worth it to get an associates degree, or should we just go through a certification program? 🤔
Thanks
Thanks for watching!
It's always been my dream to be a paremedic I'm only 12 I'm in 7th grade and I'm doing research about it and my dad was a fire fighters but no one in my family has been a paremedic and I'm probably going to be the first and my mom's been really supportive of my dream and I'm hoping to save lives just like my dad did and I've even gave up my phone just so I can focus more on school I love what people do for the community and I think I should give back by helping the community to
Thanks for watching Erin! Stay tuned for more content!
Very informative video ! Does becoming a EMT play a role in becoming more successful in fire fighting a couple years down the road ?
Be Great,
Evan, The Paramedic Coach
Just finished NREMT. #emt #paramedic
#emt #paramedic I’m trying to survive medic school during COVID 19 🤦🏼♀️😭 I won’t give up no matter how far I have to go to get any clinical hours💪
Let's do this!
is there any odd ball career paths a paramedic can take? Contracting? Anything high paying? Working with the military overseas? Working with the swat team?
Hey Robert, Absolutely, I'm going to recommend you follow up on this video and watch it right here;
SWAT = Yes that's a tactical Medic
High Paying = Yes, depends on EMS system and state
Military = 68W is a Army Medic (Did a video with another channel, Ben Allen on that)
Offshore & Contracts over seas = YES
Once you get your Paramedic the doors open up, follow up and watch these two videos.

@@TheParamedicCoach thank you for the quick response. i watched both videos. I am strongly considering the route of ems. I am colorblind, will that be a problem for me? again, thanks for responding.
