@@GeoffBuysCars I don't see how challenging ourselves is a positive consideration in countries that have awful track records for building itself off the back of the death of slave workers. It's so good to see that Dubai has embraced the low traffic neighbourhood and cycle lanes everywhere. A truly forward thinking city. Enjoy the Charger!!!
Geoff, because the "OKAVANGO" is a river that comes to an end in a desert in SW Africa. During the dry season, it nearly dries up, but with the rains, it swells and creates a massive delta which becomes a malarial swamp with a large variety of venomous snakes ... a very unhealthy place to be. Such drought-resistant trees as there are, some of them with deep roots reaching into underground water, burst into leaf and flower producing a fruit which ferments and is much loved by the local elephants. An elephant suffering from a hangover is a sight to see. They sway from side to side, heads down, pained foreheads with lowered eyebrows and half shut eyes and rumble quietly, in very, VERY deep notes "Oh God ......... WHY did I do this again."
You can hire a car, in Dubai, get ready for 'up close and personal' driving, and six lanes everywhere, head over the desert to Korfa-Kan, its a very pleasant sea side area a couple of hours away with nice hotels, you are on the right track if you turn right at a mega roundabout with a huge book on a pair of giant hands in the middle of it, watch out for speed traps, road humps just before the open air market in the desert, camels[which if you hit one it is, of course, a racing camel of high value] and donkeys. You want a drink, usually the bars are in the centre of hotels. Great Lunch, the 7*Jumerai food floor, speak every language, and every conceivable food variety.....
We spent four days in Dubai, loved every minute of the stay, forget all the things you hear or read about in the DM it's a brilliant place to visit. The roads are perfect, the pavements are well maintained and no dog sh!t, everyone is polite, no graffiti, it's safe to roam, so much eye candy i'ts so hard to take it all in and yes you can get a beer.😃
Thanks to Geoff, and family for the trip down our own personal memory lane, of our first visit to Dubai to stay in our self-catering apartment in the 90's, getting lost in Dubai is so easy, no satnav or phones then, but kind people, tolerant of our ignorance of the language, and the terrain, even to the point of escorting us in our Toyota Tercel back to our look-alike apartment complex, you gave us a great laugh, and reminded us how easy it has becomeme to travel great distances. Happy Days👍
Love it when you visit different parts of the world. When I have been to America there are so many cars you don't see in the UK. Both times i have been to America we hired the correct cars, first time a Dodge Challenger RT and second time a Mustang GT convertible.
