Just like the bends for deep sea diving! Where the rapid change in pressure causes nitrogen to be released, releasing bubbles, essentially boiling your blood from the inside out! Also happens if you were to enter space/leave atmosphere.
btw, about the intro subs: they are written in english transcribed japanese, but if you look at the credits, they are in the series' made up language. the author has made 3 fictional writing systems so far: one for present day orth, one for ancient civilization and one for the abyss. they all have the alphabet written down on wikis and you can make real sentences with them. truly fascinating dedication to this series.
From these first 2 episodes, you can see how different the people's mentality are. This town almost worships cave raiders. And to them, it's noble. In the first place, Orth was founded by adventurers who kept going to this island to go down the Abyss. Also, not really story spoilers but lore talk, pretty much every whistle are like mass-produced except for the white ones. The only whistles they really bring back are the white whistles because they are unique. Each white whistle is different. I freakin love the world-building in this anime. And the animation, creature design, and art are gorgeous. The background art in this show is just anime movie levels from start to finish because it's essential to what this anime is. And of course, we can't forget the music. Best set of OST in any anime ever because not only are they good, they add so much to bringing this world to life. It's a very specific flavor that Kevin Penkin managed to bring about.
14:33 hmm, I thought the same. Miss adhd ...I mean Riko, is a favourite already. I'm watching along with you and I wonder if that message was really meant for her.
It's not exactly exploiting the kids. They feed, clothe, shelter, and educate them and the kids earn money to keep the orphanage running while at the same time being trained how to do the exact job the city and its entire culture was founded on. "I don't think the drawing had his hands" The drawing had glowing claws, a feature that's pointed out in the netherglyph writings on the page. The drawing's helmet and collar were also symmetrical, unlike Reg's.
yeahhh.... it's their norm.. it will be good if this ladies don't treat this beautiful yet terrifying world of Made in Abyss as if the same in ours. Sorry for my grammar 😐
The world building and story is excellent for this series. The music is awesome too. I can't believe how much they show in the end credits. What is that bunny thing? I like how it was like a video game. for the characatures. again, if you stay for after the end credits there should be the map of the Abyss.
Just fyi, Kiyui is just said like Kiwi. Also at 26:00, assuming Lyza really is at the bottom of the abyss, it's not like she could climb back up all willy-nilly, as we know, the curse at the 6th layer is the loss of humanity or death, assuming the bottom is lower than the 6th layer, who knows what would happen if she attempted to ascend to the surface from there.\
Glad y'all appreciate the cuteness of Reg & Riko's design & characterisms! - that's Tsukushi's thing, making moe cute chibi characters with long torsos. The whole aesthetic is about that adorableness being contrasted with the brutal abyss and dark fantasy, steampunk design of the technology. Unfortunately in the manga he also draws nipples on the characters, which thankfully were removed/censored from the anime - hair always covers them. Not to say all nudity is inherently sexual, but the strung-up-naked scene definitely crossed the line. That's the most 'sexualized' scene in the entire show. It has brutality and darkness ofc like everyone mentions, but in general is a very inspiring wholesome story.
"Unfortunately in the manga he also draws nipples on the characters" Oh no, heaven forbid characters have nipples. It's serialized in a Seinen magazine so he's allowed to show them. "the strung-up-naked scene definitely crossed the line. That's the most 'sexualized' scene in the entire show." That's not even particularly sexual. They're being humiliated as a punishment; would you rather they get savagely beaten?
Girls, there's a movie between first and second season called Down Of The Deep soul that is a direct continuation of the first season, but netflix doesnt have it, just a heads up
I mean, if there are no donations or if the government doesn't set aside money for an orphange they need to get money to take care of the kids somehow. Also, they are training them so when they are adults and have to leave the orphanage they will be able to earn an income and stay off the streets. I am only watching a few episodes ahead of this reaction video so, I don't know the whole story. They definitely could just be taking advantage of the kids, but I could also see the way they operate as just being a necessity to stay open and also sets the kids up for adulthood.
Lmaoo, the ending song, the 'bunny' is the authors OC, like he made himself a bunny and that's his signature, and the studio just put him there😂 Offtopic & BIG SPOILERS guys please lie i need them to forget about Nanachi, and see them getting surprised😭
@@urtoryu_dy_althraidn spoilers: I mean it's a pretty big spoiler to see them hanging around, they'll always expect a bunny to be with them since the first episode but nanachi shows up in ep10, and actually decides to join them in ep13. It's no big deal but yeah
@@pljoo9 Spoilers: True, but Nanachi is friendly from her (Please don't start pronoun discussions, the whole point is being up to interpretation) introduction and stays with them for the final part of the season, so from episode 10 onwards her being in the ED feels natural. It's not nearly as bad as if an OP or ED showed a character who's either antagonistic or uncertain, like Ozen, Bondrewd or Faputa for example. It is true that the ED creates a false expectation since she only shows up really late into the season though, but I think that's a small issue. Of course, it's always best to avoid spoilers. I just think you don't need to worry too much about this one specifically, so relax.
@@pljoo9SPOILERS: Yeah definitely with how surprising it is to meet Nanachi in that moment, it would be better to never have seen their design. But also MANGA SPOILERS - Most rec (MANGA CH67, Season2 ended at Ch60) - not that big of a deal since Nanachi won't always be with the group, given the horrors of the 7th layer D:

Boy, that was fucking rough, I even had to skip it a few seconds ahead because I was getting lightheaded watching it. I'm usually fine with body horror in anime, but it's usually crazy and exagerated so it doesn't feel real. What happened to Riko there felt so real and it was really hard to watch. And the sounds, oooff, the real kicker was the sounds.
Totally not simping, just making a compliment: Sam has been really looking extra beautiful these past couple weeks. Something good must have happened irl. Anyway, nice reaction as always, although this anime ... phew. I dropped it at the start of season 2.

Its kind of fucked up that only two eps in you think that all the adults are just exploiting and brainwashing orphans to make them go into the abyss.
