Torque setting for installing new glow plugs is 15nm (11ft lbs). Don't over tighten as they are steel plugs into an aluminium engine.
Thanks man I once had a glow plug replaced and was charged more than £300. Will try to do this myself as your video is so useful
Thanks for the video, i have PO673 issue, do i still need to change plug: 1,2 and 4?
Best prices on autodoc. Great video changed wifes after engine light came on used carista to diagnose
Do you know if the cylinder numbers are the same for 2014? I'm struggling to find the details.
You were lucky that they came out that easy Rob. Normally a pain in the arse to get out and they snap easily. Best to clean out the port and soak with WD40 for an hour or so be fore trying to remove them. Even give the 10mm socket a light tap with a hammer while sitting on the glow plug before trying to remove too. If those bad boys snap, you're talking big money to get them drilled out.
Will these glow plugs work for a 2012 vw Passat tdi?
Hi Rob.
I’ve got the very same car with 125k miles on the clock and every now and then it would struggle to start. The ignition will go on, when I try starting up the car it will crank, crank and crank and either eventually start or switch off.
Did you experience anything similiar? If so, I will change my glow plugs too. By the way your video is brilliant 👏
Yes I had the same problems. I had to change battery as well. Watch this video here: ruclips.net/video/o7O3L8lVdF4/видео.html
@@rrobbiebeach I see. You’ve experienced the exact same problem as me then. I had the battery changed recently and I will get the glow plugs changed too 👌
@@AliBagcetin Don’t forget that one of them is with pressure sensor-more expensive. Have fun and thanks for watching my videos.
@@rrobbiebeach Cheers mate. Your videos are brilliant!
Hi Rob, is that a reasons why you dint replaced plug no.3 due to pressure sensor? Just wondering why you spare plug #3. Thanks. Good video thou.
Hello i change the spark plug Nr 3 , error stil there i change the reley, error stil there, what the problem ? Please help !
Thanks a lot. Will do it by myself. Looks easy. Only afraid about tighting without special key(dinamometric). How to make correct power((?. Also have a Carista shows 1 cylinder error. Also 3 cylinder with special candle with pressure-meter (100€). God bless its only one)). But question is it normal to change only 1 candle or i have to do 1,2,4 at the same time? Check shows its only 1st cylinder. Mechanics says to change all candles at once(((.
Very useful - thanks. I had one replaced in my Passat (also B8) at about 70k miles. There was a non-specific warning on the dash (orange engine light) but no other info. The dealer diagnosed the plug as faulty. Came here because I suspect another may have gone, but will check the plugs for electrical continuity before removing anything.
You’d better off changing the rest of them. Once one goes other ones will follow.
@@rrobbiebeach That's what I figured, and what I plan to do. Thanks. I found that the plug in cylinder number 1 is faulty, and I am sure the others won't be far behind.
Why not change plug 3?
أسألك عن رقم مفتاح الشمعة 3 (التي تحمل الحساس) شكرا
why only 1,2,and 4 and what do we do with number 3? 🙂
I’m replacing glow plug 4 due to error code. I was pulling out top casing and broke the plastic top will the. At run or do I need to purchase a new casing?
Replace or go to garage so professionals do it for you.
How many KMs/Miles did you have on your vehicle when you replaced them? And also, Do I need to torque them down or just get em nice and snug? Thanks for your time.
Hi Emre. I replaced them when it got colder and engine took longer to start. Car has 210K-KMs. If your car starts OK when cold engine no need to replace the glow plugs. Torque them nice and snug.
@@rrobbiebeach just bought a 2014 passat tdi sel, it has 48k miles/ 75k km give or take. I think I should be fine. Thx much for your response
Hi I have the B7 is it the same with the number 3 with the sensor?
do you still have this car? is there any chance you could gie me part number of your air flow sensor ? and possibly look at your relays and what number they are? I dont know what I need for my car and im lost
I do. Sorry no idea where airflow sensor is.
What size socket did you use to remove the glow plugs
1,2.4 glow plugs 10mm Socket and pressure one no 3 is 12mm see full video here ruclips.net/video/oY8N5DEV040/видео.html
It’s crazy because this looks easy af and a mechanic would charge you almost 300 bucks just to do this repair
Yes but they don't always come out as easy as that. Glow plugs are prone to snap while trying to get them out and then you're in a world of Financial pain.
Excelent video, excelent muzic. Ambiental 👍👍
What do you do with the sensor one just leave it. Thanks for the video!👌
This job was not easy on the CFFB 2.0L engine. 97000 miles on the engine. Couldn't get the 1st glow plug to pull out. Had to get a professional to get it out.
Good channel Rob 👌 How much would you expect to pay for the glow plug with sensor? Changed the other 3 last year and I'm thinking this needs doing (hard starting up on cold days)
£150
How do you know which one is broken? Official vw garage wants 75€ for change one.
Change all of them. If one goes usually other followe.
@@rrobbiebeach thnx. After erase code with a obd elm i didn't get code back... car turning on normally... so i didn't change any yet...
Hello
What is the name of the object that you used to remove the plugs
Medical pliers? You can buy it from any fishing shop or online as we're in lockdown.
Hemeostat scissors
Long nose bendy pliers I guess would do the job?
Hello Rob, why did you leave 3rd plug?
didn't have it. Expensive part.
Rob Rov arent all 4 are same?
@@Ignorius NO it is not the same part check this video ruclips.net/video/oY8N5DEV040/видео.html
I need help is the same for a 2012 Passat tdi se
It should be. I am amateur, you can ask at your local garage.
How tight do you torque them?
I torqued them as much as I could. No worries.
15-19 nm, depends on the outside temperature
Should have watched this before paying €160 today for getting 3 of them changed 🤦🏻♂️
vacuum dirt out of plug holes
would be great video with your commentary instead of the music , kind of distracting .
Nice video but you forget some essential stuff.... number 3 is first to die from now on. Expensive or not, should have changed all 4.
Also, no copper grease? Grease the tread before you place the new plugs. It can save you a lot of trouble later.
Hi Frank. I do appreciate your valuable points.
Hi Rob,
Did you have any fault codes because of you change them?
F. E. : p0671/p0672/p0674
Thanks!
NO, no codes at all. Easy.
Hi what caused the fault codes - did you find out?
