  • In Episode 10 of Art Island, Season 1, filmmaker Zsofin Sheehy sits down with Vass Éva Rozsa, a one-of-a-kind artist who makes anything, and everything, she sets her mind to. Through her studio, garden, and the bounty of inspiration on Hornby Island, we follow Éva and learn more about her life and the fearless way she approaches making. From jewellery and hats to drawing, painting, and clay sculpture, Éva shows that an art practice is one of continual learning, cross-pollinating ideas and methods, and trusting one's inner vision.
    [About Vass Éva Rozsa]
Vass Éva Rozsa embraces the weird and the whimsical, the unconventional and non-conforming wonders of our world in her artwork. Born in Hungary and now based on Hornby Island, Éva’s artistic practice is life-long and ever-evolving, constantly incorporating the new materials, techniques, stories and characters she is inspired by. Her work across media, including illustration, painting, sculpture, dance, weaving, and costuming teaches us to follow our curiosities and colour outside of the lines.

I have one of your paintings Vass Eva you gave me 23 years ago when you kindly hosted me with Nicole Baikie before a healing show I gave, it is one of my most treasured possessions and now hangs in the house I built on Skye in Scotland, it is the one of the card players in a cafe in Hungary, I look at it every day and it speaks to the core of my souls life journey in this incarnation. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your life and work, hopefully soon I will be able to buy some of your work.

Beautiful lady and art work. And the first artist I ever heard say they co-ordinate colours on the clothesline...I have always done so, and love hanging out my clean clothes by colour schemes, and looking through at the blue sky , and I even co-ordinate the colour of the pegs !! I love to wash my clothes and love fresh linen on my bed and pillows. I have photos from all over hte world, of the way people , mostly women, hang their clothes to dry . To me they are masters of aerodynamics, knowing how to hang things so that the air has maximum flow and the sunlight has maximum surface . Also, it is a way that women across our planet express love for their families and themselves , through the care they take with washing clothes and hanging to dry . I feel the colours are so important . As an aspiring art maker I try to paint , but also change subjects and tools etc often , as I also get bored with one thing and I prefer to be very excited by what I am doing. I have made felt shoes for my grandson , a heavy lined organic fabric bag for my travels, paper beads , bits of clothing, and other things . I love this episode of you beautiful videos. Thank you from Australia.
