Loved the puns throughout this. It's great to hear that you're hoping to get a guide dog. I'm also legally blind as a result of ocular albinism and have had my guide dog (he's a black labrador) for about two years now. He's absolutely fantastic and we get up to all sorts together! I'll be sure to keep an eye out for any updates and will be keeping everything crossed for you that it all works out!
My see different shirt arrived! I am very excited to wear it next time I am well enough to get outside! Thank you for such good storytelling, and your openness.
I’m a cat lady, although I do love pit bulls! Without any lenses, I can only see the E, but somehow my vision can be corrected to normal with glasses. I’ve been subscribed for several years now, I think your voice is soothing and you’re not too bad to look at. Good luck with getting your new dog, you’ll have to update us!
I have a few retinal problems, and I'm considered visually-impaired because of them. The constant uncertainty about future vision changes is definitely there, but we've just got to stay positive, and live our lives! I love watching your content, there's a lot of relatable bits for me, but we always can learn from each-other. Greetings from England.
Hi James, thanks for sharing this part of your eye health with us all. I have vision loss and also migraines, and lately my migraine auras are becoming more noticeable. I can see details in them that I haven't seen in years, but before I realised that was what was happening I legit thought I was dying from an anyeurism and called 911. Up until that point, my migraines were mostly head pain and nausea, but then they changed. Sorry to hear your vision is changing, that is never a good time, but also SO so glad you are back intouch with your ophthalmologist!
Thanks for watching Rejoy. Yeah I hear where you're coming from. I think it's important to know your resources for an accessible lifestyle until that day.
As someone who is trying to learn filmmaking by myself who also has nystagmus and other eyes conditions I really relate with this. I also have glaucoma which could end up with me losing all of my sight (though luckily it can be controlled). I've always been at the point where I think that so long as I can "clearly" see my computer monitor I'm happy. As for breed of dogs, well I like most dogs to be honest. However, I have a much bigger preference for big and kind dogs! Thank you for making this video!
Hi James Gary here.. Been watching your channel for a long time now… Have never had the strength to actually put a comment in for you.. I am also legally blind I seem to be about the same vision as you… And I also had decided that I was going to learn to video and edit with my I condition… I have done so and have found it is quite rewarding.. You have been one of my people I have gained inspiration from thanks heaps man keep up the good work I love your channel…
You are still smiling, laughing... Honestly I can't understand the pain behind the act... That smile looks gentle and genuine... Keep this smile please... At least for yourself
I can tell you it's all genuine. We all have some tough days but life has so much to offer to not smile and laugh! My eyes are honestly the least of my problems, haha! 😁
Yeah love it I also and quite fond of that reference to everything.. When I say to people I may bump into you later I literally mean it.. As you would be guessing I am also legally blind.. Still loving life hope you are well
James, I know what it’s like to lose one’s sight. I’ve became totally blind at the age of 15 because of brain cancer. The tumor damage my optic nerves.
I have nystagmus and soem other stuff going on in my eyes, and I totally get the wobbly vision and vertigo, tiredness and migraines that comes part of the package, I don't know what the conversion is but in England I have been told that my better eye (with glasses to make things a little clearer) is only about 2/60. I go to the eye doctor about once a year, and since I developed type 1 diabetes a few years ago, they check my eyes there for that too. There is a load of stuff that they can pick up on before it might affect what little vision I have left, so I want to protect that. I got a guide dog back in 2016, and it has honestly been great, I find I am much less stressed finding my way around with him by my side (except when the public are misbehaving). Good luck with the guide dog.
My favourite breed of dog is the Havanese! We have a 6 month old puppy Havanese and she is so loving, gentle and kind. I am training her to be my therapy and support dog. She is learning so many helpful things! I also love the Basenji dog, and Shiba Inu.
Golden Doodle is my favorite breed of dog for the non-shedding aspect. My husband had a yellow lab guide dog that we loved his name was Braxton, he wanted to play with birds, kids, squirrels and other things while guiding him though. He had to go back to training after a year of trying to fix it. Good luck with your dog, Where are you getting trained with the dog? Did you ever attend a school for the blind?
Hi James. My favourite breed of dog would be border collie crossed with german shepherd as that was my beautiful dog Tippy. She saw me through the worst time of my life (my granddaughter being stillborn) and 6 years later she got me through the first 5.5 months after my sight loss was diagnosed before suddenly becoming ill and crossing the rainbow bridge.
Would sunglasses help to protect your eyes? The sun can be very damaging, and when you've worn sunglasses they have always really suited you. Thanks again for a great video, you always come across really well and are great at film making!
Do what you're most comfortable with, and it certainly comes with time, but the positive comments outweigh any negative ones. Most negative comments come from a place of insecurity from the commenter and says more about them than whatever they're trying to say about you.
I'm gradually losing sight for about 4 years now. Recently I was gifted a brand new iPhone XR because my step dad wanted me to use a more accessible smartphone. Everything about it is better than my old android phone. But what I noticed software-wise is the lack of Apps that support Dynamic Text. For example, even though I've set Larger Text to 3 levels below the extended maximum. RUclips, Facebook, Instagram app font sizes are smaller than what I've set. While in Android. Once I enable Developer Mode(takes less than a minute to do), There an option called Minimum Width. It basically allows me to go as low as 320 dpi which enlarges most text and app scaling in almost every app.
I'm classed as legally blind without my glasses I never ever take them off only right before I go to sleep. I'm considering laser eye surgery because i've been wearing them 15 years
Thanks for sharing more about yourself man. I too have been recently going through some vision loss so your not alone my guy. By the way, do you knoe of any good webcams that can function as a CCTV that will work with both MacOS and Windows? Thanks in advance.
I appreciate that. Logitech makes some solid webcams but if you want to use your smartphone's already good camera, the app Epocam from elgato can turn your iPhone into a webcam over WiFi or USB on both Mac and Windows. The app should be under $10.
My son has nystagmus after being born at 1lb 6oz and having brain bleeds among other issues. He is now 3 and doing well, but is somewhat delayed with speech so it is difficult to know for sure what he sees although he can track a ball trailing away for some distance and things. I have a question for you related to your personal experience with nystagmus. Do or did you ever feel yourself resetting so to speak? Every so often my son will look upward with his eyes and squint his brown and then his nystagmus will be less for awhile. He has established his null point. This is different. A vision expert has said about resetting and I am just trying to learn more about it from those who would know best. Thank you so much for sharing all that you do. It helps us so much.
I think I might have nystagmus in my left eye. I haven't been officially diagnosed because I was at the ER and it might be due to my seizures but your videos are super helpful. Thank you so much for sharing! Take care!
I also have astigmatism, but it is not something I know a lot about compared to the other conditions related to albinism. I don't deal with vertigo or seeing things shake, though my nystagmus does often cause things that are supposed to look straight to look...wobbly.
@@jamesrath Yeah, still can't drive though and people often interrogate me because they don't believe I am visually impaired. Usually every new person I interact with as soon as I mention it they go into detective mode trying to disprove it or say it's not a big deal. That is annoying.
There are a few types of Albinism. I have Ocular Albinism which does impact my skin and hair but primarily impairs my sight. Oculocutaneous Albinism is often when someone can still be visually impaired but has more noticeable skin features of albinism. Hope that helps!
Hi James, I have no light perception myself. Never let it rule you and rise above the limits. Respect to what you do
Thanks, Richard!
Lol 😂 I love how you said “it’s good to hear your eye doctor” 😂😂😂😂😂

I always like your videos!!! They’re so relatable for me because I am legally blind too, while I wasn’t born with it I have nystagmus as well.
Key word I heard is "adapt". It is one that has helped me most through my journey of becoming lega1lly blind.
It's a great word and something I think we all experience on these journeys.
