They are joined by many talented artists and youth of the Mana Mele Collective, including Paula Fuga, Wayne Enos of Natural Vibrations, Lopaka Colon and youth from 6 Hawaiian charter schools.
Recorded live at Papahana Kuaola, this video was a bonus track accompanying a 38-track benefit double CD, "Mana Maoli Volumes IV & V", featuring over 100 pro artists and youth from 13 Hawaiian charter schools across the islands.

It's a frame of mind, a mindset - You don't need millions to live happy. I'm a single dad, live paycheck to paycheck..Barely able to pay rent some months. Jack keeps all of that in check and helps me stay focused on the truly important. Live happy, love, sing a little, dance a little. Good vibes.
Amen to that brother, when me and my wife were young, and the kids little, we lived from pay check to pay check, and most months we couldn't even make the next paycheck, but we went running, riding, fishing with the kids, would work the garden on the weekend, and then sit in the evening with a couple of cold beers, coldrinks, cheap meat on a fire, with a loaf of bread, our old Hitachi tape deck, and music, and talk, laugh and just enjoy our time together - the kids all grown up, and doing well now, and now we all best friends, and brother do we have laughs together about the good old poor days, happiest times of our lives, so yeah its a mindset, keep it simple, and your needs small - enjoy the time with your kids, lotsa laughter, and happy times to you and the kids

A few years ago I spent a month on the Big Island. Stayed with a host who I did work for bed and board just north of Hilo.
On my first afternoon off a wandered around the area and stumbled upon a beach.
It certainly wasn't anything to look at but I had my camera on me and was taking some snaps.
The only other people there were a couple who looked like they were locals.
The guy approached me and confronted me about taking photos. He asked in quite an aggressive way what I was going to do with the photos, I explained I was just a tourist staying for a while and they were for my own memories.
I think the fact I was quite passive calmed the situation down.
He advised me that I'd regret it if I did anything other than keep them for myself.
To this day, I don't know whether the beach was considered some sort of sacred area or this guy was just a D***head.
It certainly wasn't the welcome to Hawaii I'd expected.

I unfortunately never got to go to a Kokua Festival but I met Jack Johnson at last year's climate strike. He was a surprise guest and performed Upside Down for us and I got to meet him after. I've been a fan of his since Bubble Toes so meeting him was definitely a highlight of my life even if it was just for a moment. Unfortunately I don't have a picture but I got the performance on video and it's not like I'm going to forget meeting him.
