We all know Nixon won re election in 1972 and resigned in Aug 1974. However, what many people forget is that during the height of Watergate in April 1973 a Gallup Poll showed Agnew leading all others as the favorite to be the party's next Republican nominee in 1976. Agnew 35% Reagan 20% John Connally 15% Nelson Rockefeller 11%. We all know everything changed when Agnew resigned in Oct of 1973. Just imagine if he took over for Nixon instead of Ford in 1974 and the so called bribes he took while Governor of MD stayed hidden. Spiro likely would have ran in 1976. Would Reagan have challenged him for the nomination ? Maybe. Could Carter have beaten Agnew or Reagan with a unified GOP party in the General Election?. It makes you wonder how history might have turned out so much differently.

I'm 90 years old and remember S.T. A. VERY WELL. To ME he was THE GOOD GUY who got a very bad deal. In HIS case, the evil people won.
Sad thing is he was right. I cannot imagine what he would think of the media today.
