- Both basses after full restoration - a lot of work and those were mint when i bought them! Both stipped from thick poly finish. We put hard sealer and thin layer of nitro on it.
Don't care about the strings, I'm losing my mind over the music and style he's playing. Best demo I've seen in awhile.
only downpicking? puke
As a Bass VI owner, this is the best demo I've seen :) Everybody is either trying to use it as a guitar or as a bass, but this guy understands that it is it's own thing
Yes!
This is the first one to give me a genuine "why" I'd consider buying one: A drums/Bass VI/ Tenor guitar Trio....maybe some vibes too.
It's a combined instrument basically I use mine for looping bass parts then looping guitar parts then playing the bass vi over it
I use mine to play bass because I don't give a fuck
It is a guitar. And the people you are referring to are still playing guitars: bass guitars.
No shit... agreed and that pickup config epic... great sound
The almost natural phase effect you got from picking over different pickups was amazing
It's not so much about which pickup you're picking over, but where on the string. You get exactly the same effect on an acoustic instrument with no pickups.
oh damn a seafoam green/tortoise Bass VI, how very beautiful. almost every guitar should have a painted matching headstock, change my mind. great sounds my friend
Best demo of the Bass VI that I have seen, thanks for making and sharing this!
Both had their own charm, but the versatility of the round wounds was clearly the winner in the "gotta buy one set of strings" contest.
That first riff was so cool! By far the best bass vi demo I've seen, tasteful playing.
Thats some crazy cool playing/riff you made at 2:20 mark. Awesome stuff.
Sounds amazing! Love the sounds from that thing and the tunes you're playing.
Best demo of vi - you are really giving us a great idea of what makes this instrument unique.. it makes me want to buy one!!!
after 10 years that i'm in love with this shit i finally found an awesome demo! thx
Best guitar demo ive seen in such a long time
Sounds sooo clean! these are the vi tones i strive for
Fantastic playing! That intro was stellar!
Best Bass VI demo on the internet. Brilliant. Thank you!
Just got a Harley Benton Bass VS ... I gleaned some great ideas from you buddy ,,,, nice tones
great sense of rhythm you have! Nice demo too.
dude that is amazing music. not only does that bass sound awesome, the compositions are beautiful
thank you:)
WOW, Love the refinish on these!!
Great ad for the Bass VI.
Incredible instruments with extreme capabilities!
Yes, very nice playing. Really makes me want a Bass VI in my collection.
super! was really nice to hear the demo and i liked the riffs you came up with.
It was also really neat learning all the polish guitar terms. i speak the language but growing up not in poland, i've never had to talk technically about the guitar in polish. so i appreciate that segment alot
i like your sponge suggestion, going to try that out because i have some super mega rattle in mine (stock strings + bridge + squire)
i also discovered the genius of the screw and im convinced to cut it down now.
I also play the Bass VI with my fingers on the right hand, its not so bad actually.
Cheers!
Świetny filmik! :D Oby było więcej takich filmików z demkiem gitary oraz pogadankami "co w basie piszczy". Łapka w górę już poszła.
Pozdrawiam.
Thank you for the Jazz renditions...it is inspiring...can't wait to get one of these and to learn and practice something new...
Serious skills! Thats a nice colour green too!
this video makes me happy
Śmiało możesz gadać. :) Konkretnie, ciekawie i bez zadęcia. Dobra robota!
Saving this video! Wow!
I would really love a proper Fender VI or even the Squire but had to settle for a Harley Benton version. It does me though. Cant complain for £160. Good job man.
TRIPLESEVENSIX I didn’t even know there is a Harley Benton version, thanks for pointing that out man!
I have to look into it before buying the Squier one.
@@rolux4853 It does'n't have the whammy bar though mate. Its good though for £160. Cheers. Stay safe.
I want that seafoam green one so badly!
Nailed the Stranger Things theme song @1:05 perfectly Netflix hire this guy
That first riff sounds straight out of FF7, so sick.
Isnt it Stranger Things?
@@2giantmonsters Maybe, I've never watched Stranger Things. It just sort of reminded me of the Jenova theme from FF7.
Yeah and seema like he built these with two Squires that he rebuilt with new pickups and a custom pickguard custom switches and wiring. I dont speak his language but refinishes!
wow - I'd love for my Sunburst Pawnshop VI to be converted over to that seafoam green setup!
you can send it to us for makeover
Beautiful playing! I wish you had subtitles. Cheers!
Wish we had a TRANSLATION!
The music is excellent, and it seems you have a lot of info to share, but it's lost on most of us... :/
Please what pickup do you use?
Super great demo indeed! Thanks thanks man. Now be a dear and give me one those, you surely don't need two of them and the internet is all about sharing ❤️
nice sound nice demo, thanks
Nice work
Best colour
That surf green one is my dream guitar......you wouldn't happen to be selling it.....or thinking about....maybe selling it...
Were both basses the mexican Pawnshop version of the bass vi?
Bought one, as soon as they were available. Nice instruments even unaltered. But I got a nice mij Fender Bass VI withe the original pickup config and electronics and sold the Pawnshop. Had to have this bass-kill switch, the Pawnsop version lacks.
Is the turquoise model with the round wound strings supposed to be the same model as the “don’t-touch-it“ model seen in This is Spinal Tap?
No that is the seafoam green 1963 bass VI Phil X has a video on that guitar
I don't care for that faint waxy echo/reverb. Is there a way to rid ourselves of it? What material are the strings against at the bridge?
Oh wow, I really LOVE the first riff/song in this video. Original?
Also, curious what you think provides higher output as well as punch: flatwounds or rounds? And if they're nickel or steel... I see people on forums mostly say flats, and swear by it, but I've never been able to figure out why... I'm playing in a two-piece heavy rock project, so no other guitars, and wanting to get more punch and output.
Thanks for this video!
To me rounds tend to be more punchy and gritty. Flats are great for a bassy smooth tone. I prefer flats on my basses but if I were you I’d go with the rounds to get that extra high end and grit you’d be missing from a guitar.
I think it's the theme song from Stranger Things
So the main takeaway is that I need two Bass VIs, one for flats and one for rounds. :)
Basically flatwounds make you play it more like a bass and rounds make you play it like a guitar.
so the natural conclusion is buy two of these instruments which is generally my default rationale
@@BarryWarne Wish I could afford at least one :(
fajny sound i przyjemne granie
So why is the mute foam down at the tailpiece instead of the bridge?
I can only assume, like Jazzmasters and Jaguars, the string ends rattle a bit after the break angle. So he put foam there to prevent that.
To eleminate string ringing. Some players put foam behind the strings on headstock as well for that reason
they look beautiful sir!
Rounds sound bigger somehow in this ax
Amazing demo! What kind of flats are you using?
That intro sounds like the Stranger Things theme
is the intro composition original its amazing!
sounds like Stranger Things theme
How this high pitch reverb is achieved???
Try any kind of spring-style reverb, that little "drip" sound following each note is the spring ringing out.
Why these have different pickups?
I wish they'd introduce it at least at Performer series level, but made in the US still.
Thank you. Excellent! Have you ever used a guitar amp and a bass amp simultaneously?
They tend to work great with older amps, because most amps throughout the 60s tended to do double duty, so just by messing with pickups and amp knobs, you can sort of switch between bass and guitar amp on the fly.
An MXR 10 band EQ works wonders with these things as well, because it just gives you that much more to play with in the world between bass and guitar that the VI inhabits.
@@allrequiredfields Thank you again. And thanks for prompting me to listen to your excellent demo again!
@@allrequiredfields Just noticed you used the Twin and the B15N together on the AWOL Nation tune. Don't know why I missed it the first time. Gives both strong bass tone and rich distortion, nice.
how old are the flats on the VI???
👍
Not gonna lie. First lick sounds like fear inoculum.
Looks like he's jamming in a piece of foam behind the bridge.
to keep the string from ringing therefore eliminating unwanted reverberation
Flats wins!
Are you selling these basses......
sold already sorry!
whenever i hear a bass 6 it always seems like a lot of notes higher up on the neck dont sustain well and i kinda really like that. is it just me who thinks that or is that real? lmaooo
On my squier you definitely don't have like, Les Paul sustain, that's for sure. Some compression would probably help that out, but yeah. It's actually not the worst thing, since you're already fighting with your EQ to keep the chords from being muddy so shorter uh, release, helps keep things clearer.
he also has foam under the bridge
Where did you get flat strings for VI?
thomann.de
La Bella 767-6F Bass VI Strings - Flatwound
@@mateuszpiotrowski Hi, great playing, great video! Are those Thomastik flats? If so, what are you using for the high B & E?...Thanks, Allan
this video gives me motion sickness at the guitar specs part lol
Stranger Things opener?
Hello,
Are guitars on sale? Or is it a special order?
sorry this one is not for sale
or is it? it depends what you offer;)
Are you allowed to play it through a twin Reverb? It’s still a bass
An open back cab for bass can work just fine as long as you arent playing and trying to fill a huge space and you are careful to watch that there isn't excessive speaker excursion.
Carol Kaye used a Fender Super reverb on hundreds or maybe even thousands of recordings with many different basses from a P-Bass to the Fender VI.
For a Bass VI using a guitar amp with an open back cab might even be better at getting the kind of mid range sound many players of Bass VI instruments are after.
I do remember seeing Steve Kilby of the band The Church back in the 1990s playing a Fender VI though an SVT with the SVT 8X10 cab and that was also an awesome sound.
SEAFOAM MOTHERFUCKING GREEN
Different riffs, different amps; I don't understand this "demo".
