So cool to watch this now...lol after I discovered your channel a little over 2 years ago. So amazing to see how much you and Allison have grown the farm in that short amount of time. ❤️❤️
Thank you for making YT videos and for sharing your experience! You're such an inspiration for future homesteaders/farmers and provide so much food for thought!
I’m a new sub and I’m going back and watching some of the previous ones. You are really smart and fun to watch! I liked this very much. The music could have been toned down for my ADD twitchiness!
Exciting times for you folks and for the viewership. “5-great Q&A’s”!! - From a previous video, I recall you stating how you’re use to being on the other side of the camera. Just wanted to let you know that your videos have been informative, exciting & thought provoking, so thank you for your transparency. We can’t wait to grow along with you and visit your farm. - Karen & Mike from the NEK of VT as well - HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
checking out your channel..Lumnah Acres suggested your site..thanks for sharing your story..best wishes moving forward btw..one suggestion.. change music as it was distracting
Great answers! Def the right way to go - pay as you go! I see so many young inexperienced folks come to Vermont with lots of enthusiasm and try to grow too fast and the debt swallows them! We have so many incredibly talented and creative people here bringing back the Agrarian life style that this state began on. I so want them all to succeed so we don't turn in to the suburbs. Great to have you!
In April my husband was sitting on the porch And I dog was chasing something my husband thought it was a little bird but it's a duck, a mallard duck we have no idea where this little duck came from, look like it was just hatched the couple of days earlier. I went on RUclips and found you. Love your videos, can't stop watching. I'm happy to see Lol barn cat 🐱 is doing better, you had me crying with you. Keep doing what your doing.😇
Glad you chose to raise ducks. Here’s why I like ducks and geese over chickens: Baby water fowl make eye contact with you because they’re trying to bond. They stay cute and fuzzy until they’re almost adult size. They have a playful nature and love to nibble on shoe laces or shiny buttons. Baby chicks, on the other hand, start growing feathers when they’re just a few days old. They lose the cute baby fuzz when they’re just a week or two old. But worst of all, if one baby chick is injured or sick, the others will start pecking it until they kill it.
Great FYI video. Well, I'm sold! I'm going to keep watching your channel and see how it goes. I'm itching to do similar things but don't have land YET! I've been researching a property that I thought would be a good parcel to kick off my adventure but unfortunately I've recently realized that there are several down sides to the land I wanted. Now I'm at a loss for a good reason to go forward with it. The land itself seems good, but too many small things are accumulating that are going to just be obstacles for what I want to do. With $2500. already invested into it I I'm literally thinking I might be better off pulling the plug on it. My last hope is to renegotiate the price down quite a bit and see if the seller will understand. Thanks for sharing....
I very much appreciate you coming along for the ride. Your experience sounds very frustrating and I am very sorry to hear that. Sometimes, early on it's important to know that it just wasn't meant to be with a property. I remember when we were searching for our spot, there was a different farm here in VT that I absolutely had my heart set on. Unfortunately, for a couple of reasons, it wasn't going to work out. At the time, I found it to be a major bummer, but I kept looking and eventually found our farm. And now I couldn't imagine my life without it! Good luck with your search and negotiation.
Love this video, Morgan! We are a bit older than you fine folks with our kids about your age, but we have actually grown bit by bit on our Homestead over the years. I still work at my business but Charlie is retired now. Smart to plant the trees first thing!
Great video Morgan. I am with you, just starting out and if it wasn't for my wife to keep me grounded we would probably have chickens, goats, pigs, sheep, ducks and turkeys. REALLY GLAD SHE HELD HER GROUND! Starting out with planting berries, trees and gardening and just a few months ago took on rabbits, it was a good start. In the spring I hope we take on some chickens and maybe a few ducks. One thing to also consider about RUclips videos, it is the documentary of your startup. I enjoy sharing our adventures of starting the farm with friends and family, but it also helps as you said to promote the farm brand, see where we came from and how we got here. I love sharing our adventures and stories through RUclips and Instagram to our local growing community. They get to know their farmer and where their food came from. Great video man!
Thank you for sharing your passions about your plans for your farm. Looking forward to following you more in the months to come. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving with your family!
Love your videos because you are living in my dream area. I live in southern Illinois but have always wanted to experience life in Vermont. Keep up the great videos!
I think if I made a q&a video, the answers would be very similar, except I am in Minnesota. Just starting a farm here, but also learning everything as I go. Love the tree plantings.
We live in CT, just bought 3 acres right under the Mass border. I found you through Roots/Refuge and was so excited to see that you are here in the Northeast! I've been looking for homesteaders on RUclips somewhat near our region and will be eagerly looking for your vidoes.
Just found your channel (via Lumnah Acres). :) I'm in southern NH. Love the videos; looking forward to hearing about your journey. I'm in IT - tech with a very small 'wanna be' hobby farm. Goats, chickens, vegetable garden. I'm going back to 'binge' watch your vids. You might want to check out Vino Farm youtube channel (central MA). He's a beginner beekeeper, grapes thus the vino, orchard. They too are a young couple starting out with an older farm / property.
Overall, pretty good. Most had very good growth. I replaced about 50 trees this past fall that failed to thrive, the only thing that did poorly was the Siberian Pea Shrub. Which got devoured by deer.
I love watching your videos and admire what you are doing. I have just one 'but' and that is trying to listen to someone speak while some annoying bit of music is desperately trying to drown you out and distract from your message. There are many worse examples out there but by the seven minute mark here I was driven to stop the video. Sorry
Great informative get to know you video. Thought I would share an independent film with you that was aired here on TVO. It is filmed here in South western Ont and in Manitoba and chronicles 5 individuals who decide to start small scale sustainable farming. I believe it is also on you tube. I would tag Jason from start from seed, since he lives here in Ont but I do not know how to tag on youtube,I am fb literate and new to the 'tube'. Lol ;) I encourage you and your subscribers to check it out. It mad for pretty good tv.
Gold Shaw Farm awesome. You are welcome. I really enjoyed it and even recorded it on the over. I did find it on RUclips but it said $4.99 I do not know if that means you have to pay that to watch it or if that means if you want to buy it....I am such a ‘tube’ newbie. So much so I am afraid to post a video. I have posted many to fb over the years and have done lots of fb lives in reference to the dog I am rehabbing. But you tube scares me. I have no idea how to edit etc. I only have a cell phone. Well I do have an older camera and video camera but not sure how that would work either. Anyway definitely off topic .... I hope you find and enjoy that documentary. ;)
Thanks for filling in some of the blanks. (though, I'm sure they weren't blanks to you. hehe) So, after all the places you lived, how'd you 'land' in Vermont? I grew up in Michigan and I think that's too far north (especially in Winter) for me. Thus I live in Ohio now. LOL What was it about Vermont that made you say, "this is it!"
I’m going to give a longer answer in an upcoming video, but the quick one is that we are native New Englanders and we wanted to be near friends and family, but we also wanted something really rural.
By 2018 grocery store produce is no longer labeled where grown, it has become a 'product" so it can be labeled where it was packaged. Am I the only one who is paying attention to this change?
Your living the dream. I will pray for you everyday.
So cool to watch this now...lol after I discovered your channel a little over 2 years ago.
So amazing to see how much you and Allison have grown the farm in that short amount of time.
❤️❤️
You honesty is a major part of your attraction.

Great channel. Old and new videos
I’m a new sub and I’m going back and watching some of the previous ones. You are really smart and fun to watch! I liked this very much.
The music could have been toned down for my ADD twitchiness!
Thank you. I really appreciate the compliment! And your comment about the music made me chuckle.
@@GoldShawFarm me too, subscribed in 2020 and I'm watching older videos :D
omg what? the music was fantastic
Never have I heard so many Metallica midi songs in one video. Leaving a like just for that. Also, I can see that it's probably not for everyone :)
Morgan!!! The music is driving me crazy!!!!!!!

Thanks, Karen and Mike! I really appreciate the support. BTW..I still need to try that beer bread recipe you sent over. It sounds really good.
Great video, a lot of my questions answered at once.
I have been going back and watching these older videos. Love your channel and appreciate your vision for your farm ❤️
checking out your channel..Lumnah Acres suggested your site..thanks for sharing your story..best wishes moving forward

Thanks for dropping by, Cynthia!
yikes, the music was the best
Just subscribed and ❤️ it. Will share with my grandkids
So glad to be on this exciting ride with you both!
Thank you!

Loved the Metallica background music. Just discovered your channel, now I'm binging on your back catalog. Good stuff Morgan!
Yeah, less than two minutes in I said to myself "I hear Metallica's Orion". 🤘🤘🤘🤘
The more I watch this channel, the more I admire you! My husband and I were just saying, you and your wife are welcome in our home anytime :-)
Thank you for sharing your passions about your plans for your farm. Looking forward to following you more in the months to come. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving with your family!
Thank you! And happy Thanksgiving to you, too! 🦃
Love your videos because you are living in my dream area. I live in southern Illinois but have always wanted to experience life in Vermont. Keep up the great videos!
You are very smart not to take on debt. Debt can be the downfall of a farm/homestead for sure.
Agreed. The history of the American farmer is filled with boom and bust cycles that are fueled by debt.
the midi metallica was awesome
Thanks for sharing Morgan! The debt issue is so true....grow slow and pay with cash...keep up the great work!
Thank you!
I think if I made a q&a video, the answers would be very similar, except I am in Minnesota. Just starting a farm here, but also learning everything as I go. Love the tree plantings.
You still must choose crops that people want to buy, and be near a significant population center.
Great information. I love hearing the story of "why we started" from folks who have branched out from the dirty words - being normal.
Dirty words...that’s a funny expression.
Hi......🎥👍👍👍
We live in CT, just bought 3 acres right under the Mass border. I found you through Roots/Refuge and was so excited to see that you are here in the Northeast! I've been looking for homesteaders on RUclips somewhat near our region and will be eagerly looking for your vidoes.
My homestate! I grew up in the Hartford suburbs. Glad to hear you found us.
Great video! You seem to have thoroughly thought out your farm and concept. I'm more of a completely wing it guy but your approach is great.
Thanks!
You make good videos. Very enjoyable.
Thanks, Joan!
I am your fan

you are smarter than me. I have done too much to fast and found some things we tried did not work in our area. good info thank you for sharing
Believe me, I’ve done a ton of dumb stuff to get this smart.
I once heard it said, "Wisdom comes through experience. Experience comes from lack of wisdom." ;)
Try insect composting make's great animal feed. cheap and high quality as well.
🤘
Nice video and great format! Subbed!
Thanks, Mike!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving
Thanks! You, too.
Maybe you should try and grow some strawberries, just in a small way to see how it goes?
My question is ... are the ducks themselves “farm products” or just the eggs?
Pre Toby Dog...I found Gold Shaw Farms post Toby. Love release the Quaken and All ducks go to bed...Read The Story About Ping.
How did your tree starts do this first full year? We got elderberries our first year and I was shocked.
Overall, pretty good. Most had very good growth. I replaced about 50 trees this past fall that failed to thrive, the only thing that did poorly was the Siberian Pea Shrub. Which got devoured by deer.

It seems the preview is free and the actual doc is a paid view.

how is the restoration of the old barn papers coming along ???? hugssssss from Ontario Canada
I submitted my application and now I’m waiting for their decision. I should find out in February. 🤞🏻
i watched that video just never realized it takes that long wow
Is that Pablo or Lil?
i think you need some kids, when they grow they would make great duck herders, its really only the first couple years they need to be looked after ;)
Video is great, Music is really annoying... Just do it without.
Thanks for the feedback!
another old fuddy duddy i take it, the music was great
i just got baby ducks anyone wanna help me name them?
2:52 Do you guys know the expression "it's the cat's @ss"? In Canada it means that something is awesome, very good, praise worthy, etc.
Music a no.
Change that music
the music was great, maybe old people like you can just learn to love good stuff
