Brazil is a western civilisation country. So is Australia. Japan is an advanced civilisation with a tiny Catholic population. Uganda is one of Africa's (and the world's) biggest Catholic population countries and Pope Francis had never nominated a cardinal there.

Uganda is also the home of Saint Charles Lwanga & companions who were martyred for refusing the advances of the Ugandan king, if you get what I’m saying

But the West is also experiencing grave violence -the number of violent deaths in the US alone is staggering -and extreme poverty, unemployment, anxiety, depression, hopelessness, suicide. It isn't the "West", but small yet vocal groups, who push special-interest agendas and act like they speak for the major concerns of the West. But they do not. Faithful Catholics here in the US will talk about concerns such their children losing faith, priests who aren't behaving in the most inspiring of ways, laity being shut out of active involvement in the life of their parish communities despite a decades-long call to the involvement of laity in the New Evangelization. They will speak of suffering in themselves, their loved ones, the wider community in mental, physical, emotional and spiritual matters. The elderly packed into nursing homes, children who don't feel loved or valued and are mercilessly bullied, workplaces that use up people as if they objects, the threat of technologies to further push workers out of the workforce, and wondering where God is in all the suffering. We are no different in our concerns and sufferings than our brothers and sisters from other parts of the world. When you cut us, do we not bleed? Do not, John, I beg of you, encourage divisions within God's Holy Church by continuing to press this false and damaging narrative.

That is interesting this turning West or East issues. Both issues need to be discussed and work through. If it is left up a male clergy to solely address climate change, hunger, etc. to date the are doing not so good job. Both West and East issues need to be address. Male decisions land hard on the back of women and children. That is just the way it is. Why is it that Women’s participation in the church? Why can’t the sacraments be fully access to the people?

    1) John, you look great in sweater 2) To the Catholic Church in the developing world; 'Remember the Golden Rule -- They who have the gold make the rules." So, Catholics in the developing world don't like the priorities from Catholics in the developed world, maybe those of us in the West will pass on donating to the foreign missions or to the orders that serve the missions. I might direct my contributions to Catholic organizations that serve women and LGBTQA+ issues. 3) John, please do not use the term "Roman Catholic" when you are talking about the Catholic Church in general. As an Eastern-Rite Catholic, I cringe when I am called "Roman Catholic."

Yeah, all Catholics are Roman Catholics no matter what particular ritual church they belong to because they accept and submit to the Universal jurisdiction of the Bishop of Rome.

Is the concept of Christendom an intrisically idolatrous concept. Namely, that Christ is incarnated in a specific type of government or historic age or region of the worlld? I think so. Chridst ois not so narrowly incarnnated.

      It's the other way around.
A government which follows Christian principles.
There's a reason Peter moved to Rome.

Catholicism is work salvation, please turn to Christ in faith as the Bible clearly says we are saved by grace which translates to CHARIS meaning "unmeritted favor/free gift." quite literally. There is a Reason why Paul says in Romans "for the wages of sin is death, but the FREE gift of God is eternal life through christ Jesus our lord." Again grace's literal translation in the Greek is "unmeritted favor/free gift." Salvation is completely free all you have to do is believe that what Jesus did for you 2000 years ago actually worked. He died as a substitute for sin on the cross for you and me because the penalty for sin is death, if the penalty has already been paid and "by grace you have saved through faith" then all you are doing is believing that his payment was for you, a.k.a excepting it and believing you have eternal life as a result of his finished work (and of course believing he rose from the dead as a dead savior can't save you.) The reason you cannot add a work to Christ's finished work is because as Paul makes clear in Romans 11:6 "And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work." You aren't under grace if you add something to the gospel because grace must be unmeritted for it to be attributed to you. Again, you are just trusting in what Christ already did for you, that's why in ephesians Paul says "after you believed, you were sealed with that holy spirit of promise, which is the GUARANTEE of our inherentance until the redemption of the purchased possession." Paul can't use the word guarantee here if salvation is partially based off of something you do, as obviously YOU can fail in your efforts meaning there is obviously no guarantee. But if it is entirely based off of what Christ did, then there is a guarantee.

Turn your Bible to Matthew 16 verse 27 and you will see that Jesus says you will be judged by your works

@femaleKCRoyalsFan Ephesians 2:8-9 "for by grace you have been saved through faith, and not of yourselves it is a GIFT of God. Not of works lest anyman should boast." Salvation is by grace through faith alone, you cannot add anything or you are not under grace. The Greek translation for the word grace is CHARIS meaning "unMERITTED favor." Simply believe the gospel to be saved and be saved permanently. "After you BELIEVED, you were sealed with the holy spirit of promise who is the GUARANTEE of our inherentance until the redemption of the purchased possession."
Romans 11:7 "And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work."
