My bunnies do something similar. On warm days they like to dig up a small hole under the trees at the end of the garden and lie in the cool dirt. They also like to occasionally try and dig under the shed. I always know when they have been having digging fun since there paws are covered in dirt afterward. It’s always adorable watching them do it. 🙂
My dog used to do this a lot in summer, we got him a kiddie pool to cool off and he absolutely loves it! No more digging and hiding from the sun, just plops himself down in the pool and he's happy for ages

It couldn't be Nikko!! She NEVER does anything BAD!! Except that incident with Milo and the toilet tissue when you were gone to the dog party with Phil and Teddy, while she and Milo were left alone at home because she doesn't get along with outside dogs other than Major. But that wasn't HER fault!!

There is probably a mole or other critter under there and dogs can feel the vibrations they make! Our dogs get a mole or a hedgehog everytime they start digging like that!
