You should definitely feel proud! Generating tiles to use as pixels is an elegant solution to the slicing problem, and with easy automation to boot! Congrats, and those rankings are still excellent (over 7500 submissions to the jam) =D
I have done a game for the Jam and got 4010th overall, but I was happy nonetheless because I have made that game all by myself and following the theme: next time it will be better😄
This is so awesome sauce!! I've been wondering how you achieved the slicing + separating mechanics ever since playing the game, and this was a great explanation :D
i tried to make an engineering game like mindustry but couldnt get the grid render so i made one of those adhd bouncing circle games for the jam as a last resort in like half an hour in the same jam.
Yo, I'm the guy who was trying to develop a game like u, but I got hit by a car yesterday. Now I cant move for a whole month. Man, I really wanna get back into gamedev😢
thank you for sharing ! , super fun and inteligent soulotion , my game is in the 5000 place but still very proud of it too! maby becuse I suck at marketing 🤣😂
I actually think the "marketing" worked against me here! 270 or so ratings and if some people don't really like the game that could significantly change the average score. But maybe! Good job on finishing your project 😁
This is seriously addictive... well done! Also, how do I share my screenshot of my "Perfect Cut"?? Well done on persevering and finding that super simple solution - I find that kind of thing so hard in a game jam kind of context, it's so easy to go down a rabbit warren and get fixated on an overly complex approach and not take that step back and think
I get it, but, when you cut the cheese in half, the sprite might be 50/50, but there is definitely a lot more cheese in the butt half than in the pointy end
@@gameboyatron1405 i went through all the points of the new polygon collider and noticed that the connections were really long and kinda weird to the point that it made no sense😬
So you made a Vertical Slice?
This is it. You've won the internet👏
Depends on the player ig
This game's making me hungry! Thanks for taking the time to be part of the jam!
Thanks for checking out the game/video. The jam was a lot of fun😁
Fantastic entry to the jam! It was amazing to hear the different ways you approached the slicing mechanic
Thank you! I'm glad I tried it a few times rather than giving up after the first one
The pivot to pixelated sprites, making both the coding easier and giving the game a great aesthetic was a genius move. Love those moments in gamedev.
Thank you! Definitely saved me big time haha
super sick mechanic
thank you thank you
Love the game! It looks pretty sharp! This years theme was a fun one, its cool to see such unique interpretations
Thank you! I really liked the theme this year as well😁
This year's theme was fun to work with!
Glad to see your game, it was a clever idea!
Thanks so much! Yeah the theme was great fun, allowed for a lot of creative interpretations😁
This is some cutting-edge game design right here, good job
Thank you!😁
Nice giving the itch artist a full feature as credit for their free assets
Wait I skipped through and this genuinely looks great, gonna play it before watching rest of video!
Thank you, hope you enjoyed it!

Thanks so much! Definitely a solution I felt very proud of!
Good job my guy! Your games are always very unique!
Thanks man!😁
I really enjoyed this submission and you definitely deserve a much higher rank than what you got!
Thank you😁
Oof all the cool slicing and cutting jokes have already been made… good Job Shelf!
Gotta get at it quickly! (thanks!)
I dont even know where I'd begin making this mechanic. Genuinely well done that you managed to figure this out.
I appreciate that man, thanks!
I love how you finish it by saying … “less than 12 hours” … impressive!!!!!
I honestly surprised myself when I took the time to think about it haha
But obviously that doesn't include those failed attempts!
Fun idea! Good job staying persistent!
Thanks! Happy with how it turned out!
I was kinda disappointed with my rankings, but now that I know I somehow beat you, Im kinda happy with them!
Lol congrats though, that's awesome!
Great video!, thanks so much
Thanks for watching!😁

Congrats! That's great. Finishing a game is an amazing start, and being proud of it is a huge achievement as well. Nice job!
Thanks!
Super cool idea. When i watched this video i thought an ant was walking on my screen 😅
@@senor_McDuck thanks! And I'm so sorry 😅
I barely acknowledged it too oops haha
@@TheShelfman no problemo compadre, i’d love to see more of your projects

So.. you made Fruit ninja with gravity.. I LOVE IT.
Fruit Ninja who???😎 (fruit ninja is the best, please don't hate me)

The ants are the best part of the game 11/10
Honestly peak game design
Coming to Steam Q2 2025
Wishlist now on Steam - hopefully 😎
Lmaoo imagine (I honestly don't see it happening though😬)
now the ide makes sense

nice first ad break
oh yeah, i saw this on newgrounds. it's neat
Thanks for playing and watching!
Exciting inpsiring engaging informative :)
entertaining, funny, indie game, game dev, GMTKjam 2024 ;)
Wait, walking the dog is part of someone else's game dev work flow too? Cool.
It's my favourite thing to do that helps me with my work!
THIS IS BETTER THAN FRUIT NINJA
Fruit ninja has got nothing on me😎
Nope🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯
interesting mechanic now i wanna try making that 😂
Go for it! It was lots of fun!
this is awesome
Thank you!

Did you count the pixels? Actually wondering, because then there might be a mistake in the code😬
Can I walk your dogs sometime when I'm stuck on a problem?
Yeah for sure just let me know when
I'm German and I never watched schlag den Schlag.
I hadn't heard of it before either, but I knew the concept had been blowing up for a while and it turned out it came from that!
Cool vid :D
@@FuranA7x thank you!😁
What if you split it 3 ways though
Decided not to go with that! So now it just splits it into two pieces anyway, and the multiple cuts get ignored. It just becomes one of the other ones
we have almost the same name
Wow. Are we related??😳
Bread?
