Celebrating Tooro Culture: King Oyo's Inspiring Visit to MTN Uganda

It was a bright, colourful celebration of Tooro culture as His Majesty King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV of the Tooro Kingdom paid us a courtesy visit at MTN Uganda. Our CEO Sylvia Mulinge was honoured to welcome the King and his team, alongside our the MTN family.
This visit wasn't just about warm salutations and vibrant traditional performances but also about strengthening our existing partnership with the Tooro Kingdom and forging a path towards a brighter future, together.
The King's focus on vital health interventions, particularly addressing HIV in Fort Portal, MTN’s support for sports activities in the Kingdom and environmental conservation efforts resonated deeply with us. We believe in the power of collaboration, and together, we can empower young people through awareness and education.
Following a fruitful discussion about our joint initiatives, His Majesty was given a tour of our MTN Call Centre by our CEO and GM Customer Experience, Dorcas B Muhwezi. The King's praise for our dedicated staff who tirelessly serve our customers was a true inspiration.
Francis Akugizibwe from our MTN Business team then presented His Majesty with a spear and the "Omwigo." This powerful symbol represents the King's role as protector and elder, and the deep respect we hold for the Tooro monarchy.
Finally, to solidify our commitment to a greener future, His Majesty planted a tree at the MTN Uganda head office. It's a powerful symbol of growth, not just for our partnership, but for a more sustainable Uganda for all.
