For all of the crazy things we've seen you do on this channel, to hear you say something was frightening was meaningful. Backing downhill, at night, in the snow has to be one of the ultimate hairy moves. Glad y'all made it out.
Snow on steep suburban street in New Westminster, B.C. driving full-size US sedan and it ran out of traction. Brakes applied and it started sliding backwards! Selected R, gunned it and cranked the wheel to full lock. Instant 180, and it still wouldn't stop sliding down hill, but at least it was steerable now and there was a clear runout below. Dunno how we missed wiping out cars parked both sides. Guardian angel?
@@marioncoltman6844 I had an experience like that back in the 90's. Nissan Hardbody PU up at Lake Tahoe. Trying to get back home to our cabin at night in a cold snowstorm. Put my truck into 4WD and the dashboard engagement light lit up. But the auto engage had failed. 3/4's of a way up a steep, icy incline and started to spin sideways. Luckily it was a slide down into an open area. Ended up having to buy a set of chains that night to make it home.
My son and I were up wheeling upon the Whipsaw trail this weekend him in his Sonoma, me in an XJ. Said the same thing as we started hitting snow a bit sooner than expected. Very slimey ground under the snow this time of the year with the difference between freeze/thaw so close as you point out very well on your video. Very cool knowing you guys were out this weekend doing the same thing. 👍 Old Man Winter ... "Good luck to you Sir!"
Thanks for the video. Having done the backwards bobsled run in the snow one too many times over the years, I didn't even feel comfortable watching from the safety of my chair!!! Could tell a few stories about almost biting the big one - backwards on icy skidder roads. Glad you made it out to tell the tale.
Wow, reversing on that steep snowy hill had me scared! Glad you both are safe, that was nuts when you started sliding down. Great edits as always, looking forward to the next one!
Are you kidding me driving down a river... How does that America the guys from the story till now does... Great video keep them coming I love them... You should invite Trail Recon to come up and do the Trails...
Honestly been in that situation way too many times. I avoid snow like the plague at this point. Just not a risk I’m willing to take anymore. Glad you guys made it out safe
Good video Shaun that looked like a but pucker moment for sure sliding going backwards. The very last seconds of that video gave me a idea of maybe do a out take video of what you have to go through to get that perfect shot.
Sorry I had to watch this late Shaun. That is the first time watching you back down in the snow at night that I was on the edge of my seat worried. Glad you both made it down ok. Beautiful scenery. Thanks for the great video!
I've slid backwards down a hill over 100 meters before- I thought "This is it, I'm gonna roll the rig or it's gonna smash into trees or something." I got so lucky that the road I had tried to climb was straight, I was in La Grande, Oregon driving up from the Mt. Emily recreation/OHV staging area, I was heading up the main trail and it was January I believe. Solid ice sheet.
Idk how you have 8 dislikes you should have none !!! This art 🎨 all your videos all the time you put on em all the editing 👏 i love your channel and all your content ❤ this is just perfect 🙌 as a jeep owner you motivate me to keep going on my build even though mine it's a 2 door
@TheStoryTilNow - That was gnarly. My buddy Mike (@TheUnexpectedOffroad) shared the link with me. Thanks, Mike! Looking forward to getting up there to boogie around the mountains w/ y’all. I’m just south of the border in Ferndale, WA right now. The time is ripe! ~Toby & #RangerTWMcGee 🤠🐶
My least favourite thing to do as well.. back down steep snow covered hills…. When you started to slide I held my breath. Wow what a drive!!!!! Glad to see Mike…. Nothing will ever keep us out!!!!
Yep. Downhill slopes on snow, in reverse is NOT for the faint of heart. Chains, as seldom as they may be used are a tremendous help in that situation. Having lived in WI most of my life, we always had chains on hand in winter. Wet, snow on ice is perty near the slipperiest substance on earth. Nice job working it out. Prolly couldn't poop for a few days!!
I love that you had an H2 on there with you! Also, love snow videos :) Great content! That made me really want to take my SAS'd H3 out in the snow this year when it comes to NE Washington.
I have been to those falls several times over twenty years. That rock was at the top of the falls twenty years ago and I think it will be there for a very long time to come. Nice to see you in a area I know. I do injoy your videos.
Welcome to my backyard! Yup little late in the season to make it up to the sugar fire lookout. Come back next August aaaand checkout mara fire tower lookout as well!
I'm with you that was the pretty much worst case scenario backing down a hill , at night , in the snow , with freezing temperatures . Pass ! Maybe it feels good if you get out unscathed but the risk is so high not only to your equipment but your life is on the line also , been there done that but prefer the safer route these days , I would have turned around with the other guys . Glad you made it out just fine !
As someone who also has a vendetta against snow and old man winter.. Thank you.. for pushing it and testing your limits. Snow wheeling isn't for the faint of heart
The slide backwards-in the dark- on a mountain side-in the snow would have probably caused the heart attack for me that I’ve been expecting. You guys are studs.
Last year I slid backwards down a hill just like this for about 20 seconds. Once I managed to stop, I got out and aired WAY down. It took me about 30 mins to back the rest of the way down. Never again. It was in one of those valleys that gets a little sunshine during the day. Enough to put a neat sheet of ice under the snow.
Sliding backwards like that will get the old heart rate up! I'm a little surprised you didn't have chains. I know they're heavy, but man, they've helped me a couple times in spot like that. Then again, I usually try to avoid needing to use the chains. Good vid, glad you made it down without incident!
Just past the Goldpanner there's southfork road...up that trail is rainbow falls another epic trip with lots of side trail exploring to be done.... i was born and raised right there sure miss it now im stuck in Alberta
Word of advice, Carry iron chains in winter. You should never back down a snowy hill. Throw chains and turn around when possible. Backing down will kill you or severely injure you eventually.
Crazy 😜 this video is good example like nobody can make it. Only Shawn can do it. Well done 👍👌 it was cinematic scenery and spectacular view over throughout the mountains ⛰ 👍👍👍
I experienced this exact scenario in my 8000 lb Excursion. Was climbing a steep, snowy hill (~1350 m elevation) when I ran out of momentum and proceeded to slide backwards about 45 m. At the time I was on radio with my buddy in the truck ahead and, needless to say, a long string of profanity occupied the airwaves for a brief period as I near pooped my pants...
This is why i love my hill decent on my 15 AEV Power Wagon. Will not let any tire slide. I just have to steer the truck. Works in reverse as well. I think jeeps have hill decent as well.
Arguably one of if not the best Jeep channels on youtube. This channel should be a poster child of every potential gladiator owner.
Absolutely! Proud owner of a 2021 Diesel Willys Gladiator
Yeah I just found this channel and desperately want a gladiator, this dude is doing it right 💯👍
Been watching about a year now and finally just bought my own gladiator. Lets go!
Jeep should sponsor this guy. I literally bought a Black JTR after seeing it on this channel! Got it back in May 2021
Love seeing an h2t out on the trail. They’re actually pretty capable aside from the width drawback
its a fun truck to drive off road

@Rocklander USA It all depends on traction. When gravity wins out over traction, you are just a passenger.
Chains saved me more than once. Steep icy roads are terrifying. Chains dig in to the ice and snow really well. I carry them now as winter approaches.
There’s NOTHING like living your dreams, being happy, and letting NOTHING and NO ONE get in the way of achieving it! ROCK ON GUYS!

Rewatching the old videos hits different
Love seeing different rigs out on the trails. Jeeps are great but not the only off-road vehicles hitting the trails.
Beautiful footage! I literally was on the edge of my seat when you sliding backwards 😱 Excellent video!!
Thanks for the video. Having done the backwards bobsled run in the snow one too many times over the years, I didn't even feel comfortable watching from the safety of my chair!!! That green Cherokee looks amazing
Wow, reversing on that steep snowy hill had me scared! Glad you both are safe, that was nuts when you started sliding down. Great edits as always, looking forward to the next one!
Amazing footage. Great North and snow. Loving it.
Best overlanding content videos on youtube, bar none! You all are animals! Love it!
"as the sun goes, the temperature drops and the ground starts to freeze". this is my favorite quote.
yeah yeah
Are you kidding me driving down a river... How does that America the guys from the story till now does... Great video keep them coming I love them... You should invite Trail Recon to come up and do the Trails...
Your filmography is breathtaking. I’m interested to know what kind of wildlife you experience while on these adventures.
Honestly been in that situation way too many times. I avoid snow like the plague at this point. Just not a risk I’m willing to take anymore. Glad you guys made it out safe
What a thrill mate. Cheers to another great adventure
Beautiful footage as usual Shaun,. Epic scenery....already looking forward to next Monday 👍
Oh duuuude there's snow on the coquihalla already?! Damn! The fun trucking is about to begin! Stay safe wheeling this winter.
Fantastic! Our 270 day lockdown ended at 6pm tonight so I’m looking forward to hitting the tracks again soon.
Probably one of your best videos so far. Can't wait to take my old K30 in the snow this weekend
These videos are not only superb in quality but also content. Fantastic job
Always good to see you push the limits. Great episode Shaun!
🔥🔥🔥 Another awesome edit with epic drone footage! 💯😎
Those last few moments at the top, sliding down are so harrowing! Goosebumps
Good video Shaun that looked like a but pucker moment for sure sliding going backwards. The very last seconds of that video gave me a idea of maybe do a out take video of what you have to go through to get that perfect shot.
Awesome watching Mike's h2 in action! Some very tense moments right there on that ice😮👍🏻
Loved to see the H2 in action! Please shoot more video with H2 going forward
it was a fun weekend!
🎶 As the sun goes down, on my side of town, that north sun feeling goes thru my door over and her 🎶
Please don't stop making these videos. They are awesome!
My laptop packed it in so had to watch this episode on the tv through my Playstation. Makes it even more epic, wish I would of done this sooner!
14:09 I know that feeling when you start sliding backwards without control, SCARY! 😬
Another beauty. Nice one. Thanks for the TJ footage, H2 is pretty sweet also.
Great adventure and teamwork!

Your drone shots are absolutely gorgeous! Such unbelievable beauty up in your country!
That was a fun adventure!! I can't stop watching it over and over again!!!

You looked pretty stressed there backing up Shaun. I don't blame you.
That XJ with no lockers sure didn’t make it far eh 😉
Awesome video man!!!
XJ cleared the trail for the others. 😉
Couldn't have done it without the extra hands! 😀
I am building a nice JL because of you guys. great show. excellent drone footage.
you guys are Crazy BRAVE Heros!! Got Balls!! Keep SAFE! cheers From Ontario Canada!
That’s a beautiful waterfall!
nice to see the h2 where it belongs . great video as always .
Loved that H2!
I love that you had an H2 on there with you! Also, love snow videos :) Great content!

Nice Video As always, ♥ Love to see the adventures you guys are doing every week.

Man! This is got me excited for winter wheeling!!
This has happened to me in a dumptruck definitely not a good feeling! Glad you're alright
Welcome to my backyard! Yup little late in the season to make it up to the sugar fire lookout. Come back next August aaaand checkout mara fire tower lookout as well!
I will for sure.
Your videos just keep getting better and better.
Perfect video man nice editing.
YES! I love seeing that Old Cherokee XJ pushing through those cut trees.
Take a guess what I drive....
The Kraft Dinner amused me way more than it should have lol.
I LOVE watching yalls videos
SUPER INTENSE‼️‼️‼️ 😬😳Great skills 👏 so glad y'all made down safely 💯👍💯👍💯👍
Great trip keep them coming guys.😎

Is this in 4D? I can smell the trees!
🌲
No, it´s in 5D, because i can also feel the chill of the wind in the top of the mountain... lol
Another EPIC SHIT YOURSELF Adventure.. Thanks for bringing us along.
Beautiful video! 🤍
Yeah it’s about time for snow Wheeling 😎👍
Only a little bush whacking. Again another great video
As someone who also has a vendetta against snow and old man winter.. Thank you.. for pushing it and testing your limits. Snow wheeling isn't for the faint of heart
I’ve been sideways in a tandem axle plow truck sliding down hill. Pucker factor 100%. That hummer looks huge on those narrow trails.
The slide backwards-in the dark- on a mountain side-in the snow would have probably caused the heart attack for me that I’ve been expecting. You guys are studs.
Awesome video! What an adventure!
Try putting a few cans of drained tuna in that Mac & Cheese...that's the ticket man!!
I just don't get how can people dislike this 🤦♂️ this is awesome 🙌
When you run out of stuff within the past year to watch so now you’re going backwards one after another because you’re addicted to this channel 😂
One of these days I hope to get to see a TSTN "BLOOPER REEL". 🤘😎🤘
Man I would love that. Truth is, pretty much everything makes it into the videos and there's almost nothing left on the cutting room floor.
Yikes, Shaun! Driving in the snow is not my favorite, period. Can go from fun to terror in a snap. Haha
Sliding backwards like that will get the old heart rate up!
I'm a little surprised you didn't have chains. I know they're heavy, but man, they've helped me a couple times in spot like that. Then again, I usually try to avoid needing to use the chains.
Good vid, glad you made it down without incident!
Ever thought of investing in some serious tire chains? Double barred and studded?
Just found your channel. I approve! Come down and visit Utah!
Hope to soon!
The sound of pinstriping!!! Ahhhh!
Just past the Goldpanner there's southfork road...up that trail is rainbow falls another epic trip with lots of side trail exploring to be done.... i was born and raised right there sure miss it now im stuck in Alberta

Awesome Video Well done guys well done!
IF ONLY YOU HAD SOME SNOW CHAINS HUH?!?
😢
Have you considered Snow socks..I know some 18 wheeler guys swear by them...Maybe a good video opportunity,🤔
Sliding backwards is the worst feeling in the world. It's why I have chains in my truck year around lol
Wheeling becomes the funnest when you no longer care about scratching the paint on your rig.
Maybe a pair of snow chains next time?
Yes, this would have been the time.
Ah..the joys of impending winter! 👍😎🇨🇦🌲⭐
Crazy 😜 this video is good example like nobody can make it. Only Shawn can do it. Well done 👍👌 it was cinematic scenery and spectacular view over throughout the mountains ⛰ 👍👍👍

damn steel balls to do it tbh mad respect
Please bring chains with you always in snow. They also help in mud.
Pretty silly not to.
Its a shame that the loggers are not required to clear the trail when they pull out!
Shaun,
I will be outfitting gladiator early 2022 down here In Louisiana USA ! I want to wheel with you next summer
This is why i love my hill decent on my 15 AEV Power Wagon. Will not let any tire slide. I just have to steer the truck. Works in reverse as well. I think jeeps have hill decent as well.
