Okay I wanna pitch a tv show set aboard a fishing ship, featuring a racer, a forklift and a tug set in a hard sci-fi universe about space cowboy bounty-hunters...
I had a question Spacedock, if say you were to ever do videos on the mechs used in the Gundam franchise, would you categorize them as space craft or would they be part of the "planetside" playlist? (there are some mechs made to work in space, some specialize purely for use on earth and some that have no problem operating in both)
I concur. Music is very important to that brilliant show's broken world. It even bleeds through into a lot of the episode names "Heavy Metal Queen", "Jupiter Jazz", etc.
The fact that you can parallel park it is probably the best feature. It was always a little incongruous to me to stick these fancy fighter ships into a story about bounty hunters, but then I learned the backstory behind the show's production. Apparently in the early days the money for the show was going to come from bandai, and the instruction was design some cool spaceships and aside from that you can do whatever. Then Bandai pulled out but the ships had been designed already.

True. It helps that the mainstream IPs are one by one being killed off by corporate greed and agenda - such as Star Trek and Star Wars to name but two which are but husks of what they used to be.

This is as mainstream as anime gets without DBZ levels of ubiquity and recognition. This is well known as one of the best gateway animes for non anime viewers. And yes, they are indeed planning a live action CB with mixed reception.

Very unexpected but nicely done. To be honest i thought that if you did cover ships from Cowboy Bebop you'd cover the Bebop herself first, not one of the zipcraft. I also got to ask is the Bebop still on the table. And might i recommend that if your going for anime ships you should look into the gundam franchise, specifically the series tied to the Universal Century time line (like the show that started it all). i think you'll like the gundam ships of the Universal Century because outside of the use of mecha in combat they all follow Hard Sci-fi design. I point you to the Nal Argama, which is used across multiple series in the Gundam UC timeline, as a start, but that just my suggestion.

@@gusty9053 if you tacked RCS-thrusters onto those planes they's have torn themselves apart with the sudden changes in thust they were not designed to handle.
@@ranekeisenkralle8265 Actually, no. RCS thrusters, at least the ones used on spacecraft, don't work at low altitude. The motors need to have a sufficient pressure advantage over the surrounding atmospheric pressure in order to produce a meaningful exhaust velocity. They indeed do not have enough pressure for this. Now, the bleed air valves on VTOL planes, like Harrier, F-35B, etc, do have sufficient internal pressure to work at low altitude, but they are far more complicated than RCS thrusters.

The necessity for higher force is precisely why i said the old planes would come apart if someone were to try that. I had been thinking of small liquid-fuel rockets for that purpose as those have sufficient force to basically change trajectory at will (but add a boatload of other problems such as fuel weight and stuff..)
There is certainly enough official specs for just about every fighter and capital ship in the franchise to do it too. Not to mention lineart for the graphics page.

It doesn't help they still have apologists who will carry their water in the faint hope of new "Robotech" that no majority of anime fans want. It would be great for SpaceDock to do vids on the VF-1 Valkyrie and the SDF Macross, but considering the latest news on the rights being reaffirmed with HG, I would tell him to avoid it so as to save himself from the headaches HG would send his way.
I remember suggesting the swordfish a while back. Its nice to see that you've gotten around to it and If you had to watch Cowboy Bebop for the first time I'm glad to have gotten you addicted to that series. Now for anyone out there who is a Firefly fan I HIGHLY recommend Cowboy Bebop which while being 4 years older than Firefly it will definately scratch that space western itch.

Spacedock Hope it starts out with the Kushan Mothership, and how each successive upgrade shows a common design meant for factory assembly. And how the biggest ships completely push the limits of fitting into the mobile construction yard. Also salvaging everything.
The nose cone looks far too small to house a powerful radar ( not to mention Spike could detect bogies BEHIND him ) so I'm assuming the Swordfish maintains an encrypted data link to the Bebop with it's powerful sensor suite, or it hacks into the local planetary surveillance network through some kind of military-grade software or Radical Edward's handiwork ( which is probably better, anyway ).
I enjoyed this review very much. Been a fan of this channel for a good while. I wonder if the Space Dock crew could review ships from the Macross series as well?

Best rundown on this ship ever. A lot of good Anime ships to do - Outlaw Star, Yamato, even the Macros if you want to play with that can of worms. Even if you don’t I am still going to be watching.
THIS... is world building...... [at its finest] because it took the entire series to learn the "ins and outs" of not only Spike, but his ship 'Swordfish'
It's a lot like Firefly, but with a proper story arc. It's also legendary for its music (John Williams has a shrine dedicated to Yoko Kanno) and its perfect voice dubbing. You absolutely should watch it if you like SciFi.
This was a fun piece. But it left out an aspect of the Swordfish II that adds tremendously to the cool factor. When "push becomes shove", It's flown like driving a sport bike.
I think you could have done a better job showing the features as you were talking about them, especially the reversing/breaking feature that is somewhat unique to Cowboy Bebop. Having that scoop at the back that redirects the forward thrust is an ingenious way to solve the problem of reverse thrust in space.
eh.. it's pretty much concluded - which is why I am okay with it being over. That is much better than needlessly dragging things out as mainstream Sci-fi franchises are currently doing, just in hopes of making some more money. just look at the abysmal Disney Wars trilogy....

minute 1:40 we see the two grey lamps light (view from the cockpit) but we know and a little seconds after notice that there is only one because of the battle... so it is a little "forget" in the continuity.

Bandai pulled out because they were like 'wtf did you create, this isn't SHIPS SHIPS SHIPS!'. Watanabe and his team are laughing now.
To be fair, only Spike has the cool ship. Faye has the worker ship with guns on it and Jet has a cargo loader without any guns at all.

eh.. it's pretty much concluded - which is why I am okay with it being over. That is much better than needlessly dragging things out as mainstream Sci-fi franchises are currently doing, just in hopes of making some more money. just look at the abysmal Disney Wars trilogy....

I just thought Cowboy Beebop had good characters and awesome productions & stories & could have been way bigger.Even tho is was old news to Japan, & cancelled for years before going to us market. Adult Swim shudda threw something together & at least tried.... I miss that kinda thought provoking quality. ....😞

minute 1:40 we see the two grey lamps light (view from the cockpit) but we know and a little seconds after notice that there is only one because of the battle... so it is a little "forget" in the continuity.
