I love cheese, too. I like a strong cheese, but not one that tastes like old sweat socks or manure. My dad used to say that Lynburger Cheese (and I don’t know if I spelled it right) was made by aging it under a pile of manure. Anyway, I like a good blue cheese, a very sharp cheddar, and a strong and/or sharp Swiss. I wish I knew more and was brave enough to try more cheeses. Right now they only cause my sinuses to have more problems.
That’s so funny, because my mother told me about the fact that Limburger was the smelliest cheese in the world when I was a little girl! I grew up in northern Illinois, and we frequently visited Wisconsin and ate cheese from the various cheese factories around. So fun! 🧀

Shires are counties. In medieval times, the Shire-reeve....well, here it is...The modern office of sheriff in the United States descends from a one-thousand-year-old English tradition: a "shire-reeve" (shire-keeper) is the oldest appointment of the English crown. Because county governments were typically the first established units of government in newly settled American territories, sheriffs were among the first elected public officials in an area and thus developed a leading role in local law enforcement.

That was really educational!
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! Izaak definitely took me to "cheese school" that day and I learnt so much! I'm just grateful I had that opportunity a month before this wretched pandemic started! I hope you continue to watch other videos on my channel. I put a lot of work into making my Gloucester Cathedral video really "educational" as well as fun. I hope you check it out!

So fun! 🧀
Cheese selection is amazing... for a laugh, have a look at Monty Python's version of a typical British Cheese Shop.. Hilarious!!
Yes, I love that sketch! I've been watching a lot of really old Monty Python sketches recently. 🤣
Dara,This video is my very favorite. It caused me to do some cheese searching of my own. I know I will not find anything as good as you have in England, but where can I find a good variety of good cheeses over here?
Hi Tom! They are expensive, but both Whole Foods and Central Market have a nice selection of imported cheeses! You will definitely see some of the ones mentioned in this video ;-) I'm so glad I was able to film this a month before covid! Thankfully, the cheese shop has survived the pandemic!! I visited a couple times this summer.
Try Shropshire blue!!
Sounds good!
You were like a kid in a sweet shop, just give me extra mature cheddar and some Branston 🧀👍
wencire one haha exactly! Although, I would love some mature cheddar and Branston on granary bread also!👍
Cheshire cheese....melted under the grill on toasted bread........scrumptalicious.
Melted cheese is my love language! I did a taste test video when my American friend came to visit and we tasted Cheshire cheese. Along with sticky toffee pudding cheese! That was interesting.
@@MagentaOtterTravels I saw your video about sticky toffee pudding. Lol.
@@alneal100 yes, I am in love with sticky toffee pudding. And I'm obsessed with cheese! So when I found out there was a sticky toffee cheese, of course I had to try it!
I could stay in there all day, love the Wensleydale with Cranberries and any smoked cheese...I had a pear cheese once and an apple cheese which I loved , always think apples and pears go well with cheese 😋😋💕
Yes, apples and cheese are lovely together! Growing up we put grated cheddar on applesauce! I know that is weird.... In some regions of the US you might get served a slice of cheddar with hot apple pie as well!
@@MagentaOtterTravels always have slices of apple on my cheeseboard, good with grapes as well....pears I love with little gem lettuce, sweet baby tomatoes, cucumber and walnuts drizzled kin ranch sauce mixed with olive oil 😋💕
if you go to Hawes (the home of Wensleydale cheese) in Yorkshire they have a large area where you can taste different cheese s free
john e Lawler that sounds fun! I do love Wensleydale!
More cheese vicar!! 😋😋🤣
AMEN! PREACH!!!
On a previous video I mentioned the Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes. You chose one for your cheese board. They have many others you will not have heard of. I don't know the precise internet address, but putting in their name will give you all the videos. Have fun. JOE.
Thanks so much! This is one of the first videos I made in England after I started my channel. Such a fun day! I still stop by this cheese shop and visit those guys. I actually went in on my wedding anniversary in July and both Izaak and Ryan were there working. I was buying Caerphilly cheese to go visit Caerphilly castle with my husband and sons!
I have a soft spot for Wensleydale as its my counties cheese but you just can't beat a good old cheddar or a good Stilton for flavour.
Absolutely! That’s why you need a cheeseboard with all three 😉👍🧀🧀🧀
Hi I’m from Cheltenham and I haven’t been to the shop the manager was a natural 👍
Why hello! thank you for your comment. I’m always so excited to hear from a fellow Cheltonian! This cheese shop is amazing and Izaak is brilliant! I hope you have the chance to visit sometime. I’m back home in Texas now, but we lived in our flat in Cheltenham this summer. I filmed a lot of content about Cheltenham, as well as the Cotswolds. I will be doing a Cotswolds series and also a Cheltenham series in the coming months. I hope you subscribe and stick around! Also, next Friday’s video about Knaresborough is I’m going to be pretty great❤️.
Cheers

Very interesting
I learnt so much that day! I felt lucky I could film it before a month before the pandemic.
If you don't eat the rind on a Stilton then you can use it for soup/
Great idea!!!
Blue Gloucester is my fav cheese. a double Gloucester nod to stilton.
No way! As a resident of Gloucestershire I am embarrassed to not know about this!!!
@@MagentaOtterTravels I actually went to buy some today where i always get mine but none there. They had two other types instead that looked the same, maybe supermarket branding only? Blue Shropshire and Barnstone Blue. Unfortunately although i can buy a lot of local cheeses and a few like mentioned above there isnt a specialist independent shop doing an extensive national range near me.
It’s why I could NEVER be a vegan.
A world without cheese would be a joyless world.
My own personal favourite IS Cornish yarg as I live in Cornwall and have had the original.
Party in my mouth it was.
Yes, I am with you on that! I can easily be vegetarian, but for me vegan would be unthinkable…
Waterloo is actually in Belgium
Ah! Sorry about that! Have I mentioned that I'm rubbish at both history and geography?!
All the marooned Benjamin - "Ben Gunn" thought about on 'Treasure island' - Cheese ! Cheese !
It is one of my favourite topics too! MORE CHEESE, GROMIT!! I hope you check out some of my other cheesy videos... I'm hoping to get to Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole this summer to add to my collection ;-) Cheers! XX Dara
Perfect description of Stinking Bishop; tastes delicious but smells like like a stinky shoe. Based on the fantastic selection, this must be one of the best cheese shops in the UK. Vivat blue cheeses and a good port.
Gerry Mccartney it IS a great cheese shop! I feel very fortunate to have it in my home away from home of Cheltenham.❤️
That is so interesting! Thanks so much for sharing that background info 👍 Cheers! Dara
Lovely cheese board , can I come for dinner please? Lol
At the moment I am back in Texas, and far away from my favourite cheese shop in Cheltenham, sadly! However, I have kept several wooden boards in my flat in Cheltenham so that I can have cheese parties frequently during the summer with friends and family 💖
Try some hard cheese, Cheshire, Wensleydale or Crumbly Lancashire cheese, on Maltloaf or what seems to be a 'Yorkshire thing' on a slice of fruit cake,,you will be amazed!
Oh, that does sound delicious! Have you seen my video from June when I made Yorkshire puddings with my friend in Yorkshire? It was pretty epic 😂
ruclips.net/video/0lJSiXaBp5c/видео.html
@@MagentaOtterTravels Yes, and 10/10 for the Yorkshire puddings! Not sure if its unique to Yorkshire, but we tend to put cheese on top of crumpets, fruit cake and Soreen maltloaf, great on top of hot buttered crumpets!
He is the spitting image of Ricky Gervais' mate, Stephen Merchant. He is a true expert on cheese.
I think Stephen Merchant is hilarious, but not nearly as good looking as Izaak… who indeed is a cheese genius!
Thanks for watching this cheese tasting video. It’s an old one, but one of my favourites. Please be sure to watch my sticky toffee cheese taste test this coming Tuesday! It is a VERY fun video, I promise 😉👍. Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment! Dara
All that cheese!!! OMG... Dara, don't do this...I am getting up and looking for cheese...Cheese tasting ...at Cheltenham.
Hahahaha... I LOVE me some cheese ;-)
England is the cheese capital of the world with over 700 different cheeses.
Cheddar Cheese was first made in the town of Cheddar in 1170 so Cheddar Cheese is 852 years old!
Wow I bet it’s gotten really moldy in that amount of time!
By the way, I am going to visit Cheddar Gorge in a couple weeks and I’m very excited about it!
@@MagentaOtterTravels Yeah its now known as Blue Cheddar 🤣🤣
You'll love the Gorge, do pick a nice day when it's sunny and hot for the best experience though.
I used to work in the Cheddar Cheese Cafe in the summer when I was 16 for my boss of the private school I used to work in, in Clevedon. During my lunch hours I would regularly walk up and down the Gorge and enjoy the sunshine. It's such a lovely place imo.
Axbridge is also a quaint little place if you're driving through, I used to stay at my bosses house there.
There's some lovely little lakes nearby that are worth a visit if you have time to kill.
Maybe one day you'll visit WSM... Lol!!! Although there's not much here apart from the beach and the pier.
@@OblivionGate We have the week all scheduled out and have made appointments with various people were meeting up with. So, I won’t have time to kill, and I won’t be able to work around the weather. I’m just expecting it to be sunny! Lol
As for WSM, I have a secret plan to go there next week, but Ian is not in agreement, so we’ll see how that goes… 😉
@@MagentaOtterTravels Tell Ian he doesn't know what he's missing, it's like the Bahamas in WSM... Bwaahaahaa!! 😂😂😂
@@OblivionGate yeah, he knows better! Have you watched the TV series The Café that is set in WSM?
you must go to an english food feastival ludlow is one of my faverits its in the grounds of a medieval castle there are hundreds of different cheeses and ciders plus lots of other food
Great idea! I do love Ludlow. I have been enjoying all the delicious cheeses at farmers markets and farm shops this summer!! Thanks for your comment!
Being from the Midlands, I like Red Leicester cheese.. not as much as Stilton though. Steak and Stilton with a glass of port mmmmmmmm
I love regional cheeses! We have spent a lot of time in Herefordshire, and Ian's ancestors are from Birmingham. We need to make it to Leicester some day for a visit. What county do you live in now?
Oh yes!
He knows his cheese
Yes! Izaak is a veritable cheese encyclopedia!
When he first started saying pear tree. I thought he was was saying poetry, like the queen would say it. But I guess he really meant pear tree.
MrCordell1 yes, I LOVE Isaak’s accent so much. And the pear tree made him smell like pears 😂
@@MagentaOtterTravels I was in Cheltenham before CheeseWorks, but I love cheese too. We recently went to a cheese factory in Monroe, WI owned by a guy from Switzerland. He also has an award winning cheese.
MrCordell1 that’s so cool! I love cheese factories. Although I thought the Tillamook cheese factory in Oregon was a bit smelly😂
No trip to Cheddar then ?
Not since I have had a RUclips channel! Unfortunately, my husband is not as much of a cheese freak as I am! But next summer when my friend comes to visit, I hope we can visit cheddar gorge and Wookey hole! Have you seen my visit to the cheese vending machine in Devon? ruclips.net/video/VNUWvpMTc3w/видео.html
Red Cheshire
Nice! Are you from Cheshire or have you been there?
@@MagentaOtterTravels i live in Cheshire and absolutely love Cheshire cheese crumbled into a beat egg add black pepper and chives melt in microwave and spread on crumpets delicious.
Disappointed not to see John Cleese and Michael Palin.
I know, right?! Honestly I forgot about the Monty Python cheese shop sketch when I did this video. Also, I hadn't learned how to integrate clips yet, as I was VERY new to learning video editing. I did sneak a bit of MP into my Clovelly video though: ruclips.net/video/TFwSWJiJ43Y/видео.html
You will be back in Texas by the time you read this. A pity really, England can always use more beautiful ladies.
Steve Gray Ha ha, well I don’t know about that! But we will be coming back next year to spend the whole summer!🙌🙌
@charlie cheeseface 😁
@charlie cheeseface good point!!🤨
I wonder if John Cleese has been here 😀
Great question!! I didn't know about the Monty Python cheese shop sketch until after I filmed this video. I watched it and found it HILARIOUS! Thanks so much for watching. I hope you subscribe and stick around for more cheesiness ;-) Cheers! Dara

It is an abomination! One of the worst American "foods" in existence!
Is his surname Cheeseman? It should be.
Yes it should!
A presentable young man who knows his cheeses but on three separate occasions probably due to nerves being filmed scratched his nose ear and face then continued to handle the cheeses. Even before covid19 that’s a no no.
I hear you. I filmed this before Covid (when I was already a germaphobe)... but yeah.
How come Gloucester has to be made in Gloucester etc , BUT cheddar can be made any where else !!!! Why can yanks make a cheese and call it cheddar and get away with it !!! Even if its orange and taste like soap !!!!
Very good questions indeed. I guess the folks managing the "Double Gloucester" trademark did a better job protecting it than the Cheddar folks. What a shame.
On a related note, I hope to visit Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole this summer! I love Wookey Hole cheese... yum!
Thanks for your comment. Cheers! XX Dara
This video is a bit cheesy. ha ha
No it’s VERY cheesy! In all meanings of the word! ❤️🧀
Fruit does not belong in cheese.. especially Wensleydale.
It's OK to be a purist. I respect that. Some folks were upset by the Sticky Toffee Puddings with bananas and whatnot in them. Just like some people don't like fruit in their scones. Personal preference. I found out yesterday there is a sticky toffee pudding type of cheese... now THAT is something I don't want in my cheese! haha
@@MagentaOtterTravels And I support that statement wholeheartedly..😂👍" and yes you have a point about the cheese..but I like the savouriness of the cheese as a counterpoint to what ever the accompaniment is with it.. it is good to be different though..I love a strong cheddar or Wensleydale with a rich fruitcake...ie Christmas cake.. a very Northern/ Yorkshire thing.. 😊
@@Ionabrodie69 oh yes! I have heard of that from other Yorkshire natives. I would probably like that if I didn’t despise fruitcake… LOL sorry… typical American 😆😬
