For anyone curious, the personal message on the Nobel prise means: "for his work on the diffusion of light and for the discovery of the effect named after him"
For you non-Swedes out there, here's a quick translation of the diplomas: "The Swedish academy of science has decided, after their meeting on November 15 1930 in regard to the specifications provided by Alfred Nobel's will of November 27 1895, decided an award to him who has made the greatest discovery within the area of physics, Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, for his work on the diffusion of light and the discovery of the effect named after him. Stockholm, December 10 1930"
If anyone is interested in the text on the citation: *The royal Swedish scientific academy* has at its gathering the 13 November 1930 I the terms specified by *Alfred Nobel* The 27 of November 1895 in testament decided to reward the prize, for whom, within the area of physics has made the most important discovery or invention, to(continues to the second plate) *Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman* for his work with light diffusion and for the discovery of that effect which has been named after him. Stockholm 10 December 1930 It´s written in a very old and formal swedish so the translation is not literal but has been made a bit easier to read in english.
Raman was a pretty smart guy! I once did an experiment where we had to measure the concentration of pure substances in a mixture. We used the effect of Raman-spectroscopy, which the man himself has brought to us.
Not being a translator but it says something like "The Royal Swedish Science Academy have at their gathering the 13 november 1930 in accordance to the charter in Alfred Nobels testament, established the 27:th of november, decides to give the price that in the current year is given to those that within the science of physics have made the most important discovery or invetion, to Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman for his work in regards to the diffusion of light and for the discovery of the effect named after him."
Professor the first Asian and first Indian to win the Nobel prize was Rabindranath Tagore. He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913. You would be correct in saying Prof CV Raman was the first Asian and first Indian to win the Nobel Prize in the sciences... In any case I really love your videos- I did not know that you were visiting Bangalore. I live here and would have loved to meet you and attend any lecture
can you please talk about Raman spectroscopy, and why its so important to chemistry today, i absoblutely love this channel but i feel like it leaves the physical chemists out in the cold sometimes
Wait the institute was built in 1948, Gandhi died in 48'. Raman gave his last lesson on october the 2nd, Gandhi was born on october the 2nd...... Illuminati confirmed
We learned about Raman spectroscopy in my analytical chemistry class, which reminds me that I should be studying for finals instead of watching youtube videos... Very cool video though!
I made a cuvette holder for work once, good enough for ammonia tests! I will make you a chalk holder like that one, my attempt at payment for such amazing videos that have taught me so much.
The text says: The royal swedish academy of science, have by their gathering the 13th of November 1930, in accordance to the regulations by Alfred Nobel the 27th november 1895 (then something I dont understand), decided to give the prize, that in the current year would be given to the person that has done the most important invention or discovery, to Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman for his work regarding the diffusion of light and for the discovery of this effect named by him. Stockholm, the 10th of December 1930. I can't make out what the two names is on page two. I am Norwegian, so my translation is far from perfect, and it is written so complicated, like they did in scandinavia in general at those times. Seldom punctuation and use of commas and overcomplicating the words for their meaning to sound more formal etc.
Thank You.enjoyed your Notingham videos specialy the Thermite ones of the past.study alt energy some day need to figure out all the ways to make hydrogen, they say carbon monoxide is a good fuel that oxygenates.i need to be a chemist, tec, and a physasist.
He is not the first Indian to win Noble price. First Asian and Indian to win Noble price is Sri Rabindranath tagore. First Asian and Indian to win Noble price for science is C V Raman.
The first page is pretty much BS. The second page says: For his work concerning the diffusion of light (google prisma) and due the disscovery of the effect named after him (raman scattering I asume). :3
Kungliga svenska vetenskapliga akademin has at its gathering has in the 1? I tried to translate the diploma as good as i could but some parts were hard to translate... I hope someone find it interesting, its written in Swedish btw.
I will now no longer accept football matches being played on pitches without trees growing on them. That's something FIFA simply has to introduce to football.
This is off topic, but why does The Prof wear a red lab coat? Because he's a Prof? Because he's a safety officer? I don't think it's ever been mentioned.
I don't think there's any special significance to it, other than maybe Martyn likes red? lol. Lab coats come in a variety of colours - for example at the lab at the school my mom used to teach, all the students' coats were yellow, and the teachers all had blue ones. Yellow and blue were probably on sale when they ordered, lol.
3:14 on the right, there's a person in white kinda shifting about in the footage weirdly(on the right). Looks like one of those faked ghost sightings haha.
When he said Raman was the 1st Indian and Asian to have won the Nobel ,he should have said "...in the field of science." because otherwise ,that honour goes to Rabindranath Tagore who had won it for literature.
Just want to point out that the first Indian to win the Nobel Prize was not C.V Raman but in fact was Rabindranath Tagore, who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1913. Rabindranath Tagore was also the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize.

Overwhelmed. Teary eyed.
Love from India, you guys!
Translation of the right part at around 1:45:
"For his works regarding the diffusion of light and for the discovery of the effect named in his name."
For you non-Swedes out there, here's a quick translation of the diplomas:
"The Swedish academy of science has decided, after their meeting on November 15 1930 in regard to the specifications provided by Alfred Nobel's will of November 27 1895, decided an award to him who has made the greatest discovery within the area of physics, Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, for his work on the diffusion of light and the discovery of the effect named after him.

The sentiment about the walking stick is quiet lovely.

Raman was a pretty smart guy! I once did an experiment where we had to measure the concentration of pure substances in a mixture. We used the effect of Raman-spectroscopy, which the man himself has brought to us.
This video, together with the one on his treasures, made me feel so connected to spectroscopy once more.
Is this the Raman that Raman spectroscopy is named for?

That's a fine translation...
You beat me to it :(
Now he has the best seats for all the games
Dat tumbnail, doe.
Lol I read, Ramen Noodle Prize (and walking stick)
I Love you Dyslexia.

"For his works regarding Light Diffusion and his discovery of the effects [which bear his name]" is the translation from swedish. at 1:55
0:35 First bronze Paisley tie I've ever seen. Nice touch.
The Professor's emotions are rather subdued, but you can tell that he's really quite excited.

No, coincidence confirmed
Mitchell Smith Oh so you're with "them". I won't be fooled, the world needs to know. you can't stop me!
Great video, looking forward to the next installation about Raman.
We learned about Raman spectroscopy in my analytical chemistry class, which reminds me that I should be studying for finals instead of watching youtube videos...
Very cool video though!
Such sweet irony. In life, a Nobel prize, in death, a soccer ball, and a tree to shade the pitch.
I made a cuvette holder for work once, good enough for ammonia tests! I will make you a chalk holder like that one, my attempt at payment for such amazing videos that have taught me so much.
city also known as Bangalore, and it has to be said very nice to visit. C.V Raman was one of a number of very smart guys to come from India.
Where was this recorded in Bangalore? IISc?
looking forward to the colletion, this is very interesting material :)
"for his work regarding the diffusion of light and for discovering the effect named after him" it says on the second piece of paper.
Hurray, you made it to india!
Can we get a video about the Hammond postulate?
Rabindranath Tagore was the first indian(and first asian) to win the Nobel prize (1913)- 2:07

Is Objectivity a new channel that's going to showcase scientific significant objects?
OMG NEW BRADY CHANNEL
Thank You.enjoyed your Notingham videos specialy the Thermite ones of the past.study alt energy some day need to figure out all the ways to make hydrogen, they say carbon monoxide is a good fuel that oxygenates.i need to be a chemist, tec, and a physasist.
Proud to be an Indian

OMG! You're in India! Will you be coming to other parts of the country? Mumbai (Bombay) maybe? :) Loved all videos and can't wait for the next one...
This was really interesting! :)
Dat chalkholder! So badass!
Good, informative video.
hey professor.
do you think you could make a video about Deuterium at some point perhaps?
Awesome
Why is everyone freaked out about the thumbnail? I thought the professor was just holding a sausage!
Oh wait . . .
Happy Birthday. (16 december)
amazing
The first page is pretty much BS. The second page says: For his work concerning the diffusion of light (google prisma) and due the disscovery of the effect named after him (raman scattering I asume).
:3
one thing that i can say that im proud of beeing swedish is the noble prize.
Why did the professor come to Bengaluru?
Can you do something Christmas related?
I know a guy by the last name Venkataramanan :-?
Dat thumbnail, though.
one small correction Rabindranath Tagore was the first Indian to get a noble prize in 1913. Though not in science but in literature.
It is one of the few things that makes me proud to be an Indian!!
Kungliga svenska vetenskapliga akademin

Those noodles helped me survive college, I'm glad he got the Nobel Prize for it.
...Wait. Hold Up! Are you making another channel Brady?! "Objectivity"
...I thought you could barely keep up with your current cacophony of channels, let alone adding another.
You, Sir, are quite the ambitious fellow.
You're in Bengaluru! :D
Any chance you'll let young enthusiasts meet you?
What a noble price
this is such a lovely video, thank you
mumbai please. would love a picture
I wonder if anyone has kicked a ball against the tree and it ricochet if and went into the goal.
Hey I was born in Bengaluru.

He works in the Inorganic chemistry department at Notts uni, and red is the colour for inorganic there. Organic is green and Physical is blue. :)
Who is Nobel?
youre in IISc :D
The Nobel Prize plaque is written in Svenska, not Latina.
3:14 on the right, there's a person in white kinda shifting about in the footage weirdly(on the right).
Looks like one of those faked ghost sightings haha.
"it's written in Latin.... or swedish" :D
I think they should've done chemistry with his ashes
Its not latin, Its swedish Lol.
Hawmaygawd
Moar
When he said Raman was the 1st Indian and Asian to have won the Nobel ,he should have said "...in the field of science." because otherwise ,that honour goes to Rabindranath Tagore who had won it for literature.
shame that Nobel Prize means nothing these days
So we speak Latin now? interesting ;)
You said it was all in latin and swedish. As a swede i can say it's only in swedish.
Has the museum got some of his noodles?
When I first saw the title I thought it said "ramen." I'm very disappointed. :/
First
probably not second
***** Well of course it is, look at the suggested videos
