I actually think the sad aspects displayed really show the theme of the song perfectly. Because of the happy vibes/over-enthusiasm, the song is ironic to the sad message hidden in it. But If you were to only focus on the happy parts of the song, you'll miss the message- that these mormons are depressed. Displaying these sad parts show the audience the truth to the character's feelings- Repression. I'm not against the happiness, but the blend of both darkness and happiness work perfectly in the animatic and benefits the song. Get it? I'm not great at explaining.

This is honest to God (lol) my favorite animatic. The art is good (Albiet inconsistent but hey, that comes with practice and time), and the ideas are nothing short of phenomenal. Also the "lying is worse" being focused on Arnold is genius to say the least. At the end(ish) part when the light switches off on Arnold and Kevin is so uniquely done, since most people just focus on Connor and Kevin's sadness and no one thinks about Arnold (can you tell who my favorite character is?). Also THE DANCING MY GOD JUST AHHHHHHHHHH. Okay sorry, but I do Tap and I can tell that you used the original number from the obc choreography and it looked like tapping and just ahhhhh you're so good. I can't wait to see how you improve!
