    • @lovenothate

Not all automatic feeders are plastic, though. There are metal ones. I’ve even seen ceramic and marble automatic fountains. A great way to allow water to circulate and make your cat happy! But yes, there are metal automatic feeders. Just gotta look for them and. you don’t get the convenience of glancing at the top to see if it’s empty.

once i found my cat in a very weakened state, hiding in the storeroom and being very dirty so i took her to the vet to see what's up. apparently she got into a fight with a dog based on bite marks the vet found on her leg but otherwise she was fine, just a bit dehydrated (it was summer). the vet told me a trick to make her consume a bit more water than she did by herself: get a bowl of water, dip your hands in it then pet her to soak her fur. she will lick it off and it will end up in her belly

you can also try mixing a bit of water into the cats food. if it’s wet food it makes it easier to lick up and helps them consume water and if it’s dry food, it makes the food mushy and helps cats eat it easier

Agreed. But I really...REALLY recommend not giving out medical advice to anyone when you have no idea what you're talking about. Even licensed vets can't give out medical advice online. They'll lose their license. So even though your mom's a vet, don't. If it's stuff like: walnuts cause seizures.
Then that's fine but nothing you'd have to have a proper 6 year veterinary education for.

My Pepper had the same thing.. 4 years ago she passed. I was messed up.. My bride and daughter were ALL messed up. I never fully mourned her, I had her 15 years. Just been so busy with all that was going on in life I never had a CHANCE to really think about it, be sad about it, nothing. I just kept moving...
Now a cute little Tonkinese has picked me to be her person, I guess. Just was at my front door and was like, "ok.. I'm here! Guess what? I'm yours!" "I like it here, and I think I'm going to live here..."
She is VERY loving, probably the most loving cat I've ever seen. I've never seen anything like this... And Pepper was an absolute love bundle. I was just going to help this new one out a little, you know? To eat comfortably, without the competition from the other bigger cats outside, and just relax... She was just a skinny little thing.. and I felt bad. Then my wife and kid, after they saw her, and her behavior, said no no no...I GOTTA keep her now, because she trusts me completely... And trying to find her another home would be terrible and traumatizing for her.
... In a week, I FINALLY just, broke down about Pepper.
      4 years later.
This little one just made me break down somehow.
      It still hurts.
      My little dainty Pepper pants.
They pick you, I think. That's what my wife says.
This new little one... She's very easy to love, I can tell you.
Eventually another is probably going to pick you again. That's how it works.
And you will have no choice.

I was with stainless steel bowls, but for some reason I heard they weren't good for them and switched to plastic. Now after this video to steel again.Every other thing on the list I'm avoiding.
It's ridiculous about the food. They say that corn, wheat etc. are bad for cats and dogs, but you can find them in a special science made foods.Especially the big companies like Whiskas, Royal Canin etc. It's just blows my mind.So I feed my felines with food which is grain free.Well at least it doesn't say on the ingredients label. From companies that aren't that big which have commercials thrown in you face.

    • @Whimsy3692
      @Whimsy3692 5 лет назад +2

I'm only saying this because I care, and have been listening to Jackson Galaxy. Grain-free doesn't mean anything on big company labels. They are legally allowed to put them on the bag, yes, but it only means they'll substitute it with something else, like soy, or cheese, or blueberries, cranberries, or some other sh*t vegetable. Something they have no business eating, and something their bodies were never designed to digest. Cats are hunters, and are only designed to eat meat.
I once saw a Friskies can that had CHEDDAR CHEESE in it. From _Friskies,_ no less. I went, "that's disgusting." I guarentee you it's the same sh*t in Kraft products, too. If it's awful for people, imagine what it does to your cat.
You can switch your cats to a raw diet. It helps with digestion, their coat, dental issues, and more.

    • @MariyanStoykov
      @MariyanStoykov 5 лет назад +1

@@Whimsy3692 Thank you for the comment!
I don't use brand that is popular as Friskies, Whiskas, Royal Canin etc. They are just awful.I use Sam's Field grain free for neutered cats. It's rare to find grain free+neutered. It has chicken, rice, oil from salmon, potatoes, dry apple 6 %, tomatoes 1 % and carrots 1%.
Before that I used to buy Applaws. But they don't grain free+neutered.
As to the coat... they have amazing coat and I don't even brush them. But that's maybe their genes, not from the food.
And to be honest... no matter what text is written on the label... even if it's true... it's a food that's baked or stuffed into small granules which it's ridiculous by itself. They definitely have some smelly stuff for cats to like and want to eat.
And of course they are predators so I try to feed them with foods that they can actually hunt in the wild.By wild I mean woods.Fish isn't they natural food and it can be dangerous too.I feed them them with real chicken too.But I have nowhere near me farms with "happy" chicken, so I don't know how much poison the selled ones in the store have.I'm a vegetarian and it doesn't bother me, but I'll try even harder for my cats!

I'm a dog trainer and actually had a student who wanted her extremely healthy and naturally lean puppy to be obese. She wanted her to pretty much look like a log. I was beyond baffled and still can't understand the reasoning.
Also, one thing they forget to mention is that free feeding can lead to animals not eating enough as well. Since they know the food will be there, they can often end up ignoring it since they can come back to it later, which they may not since they're distracted by so many other things or just don't feel like it at that time.

He’ll have a taste and that’s enough. He’s the perfect weight for his adult age, with amazing health mashallah. I truly get amazed how he doesn’t eat any of his food that stays out for too long, his bowl has to be cleaned regularly, he drinks well, he hates junk food, oily/fatty foods that have been offered to him like fried chicken or take away meats, he’ll only eat home cooked chicken and fish, he don’t even like canned tuna he hates it 😂👏🏼 love my baby brother, he’s always been a smart kitty ❤️❤️❤️

Free-feeding can actually be good if your pet knows how to control themselves. We have two cats, one of whom would simply eat the entire bowl and then beg for more. She is on a feeding schedule. But the other one, she will go to her bowl and nibble at it whenever. She never eats the whole thing, or even half of it. So in isolated cases, if your pet is a confirmed grazer, I think it should be fine.

They know the difference. I'm sure they can sniff it out quite easily... There was a cat that used to come to an older shop I worked at. Sweet little thing. She used to grab and paw at my hand, ...which had a water bottle in it, and meow, and love bite and look at you like, "hey I want some of that, can I has some?"... She wanted the water from the bottle. So I'd pour it in the cap, and put it down, and she loved it. That was what she wanted.. So that became all we'd give her. She wanted NO part of the water my coworker put in a bowl on the ground.
The owner of the shop wound up taking her home. Last I saw, at a party at his house... she became a big fuzzy happy cat. She was an absolute sweetheart.

The number 5 doesn't apply for my puppy. He doesn't eat just because. He eats when he did a lot and is hungry. He won't eat just because there is food. Sometimes when we play together every 15/40 minutes I take his to his water bowl and food bowl. I point to it and when he's thirsty I make him drink. He rarely drinks or eats while we play. I bet its because he doesn't want to lose time 😅 So oftenly I take him for a brake to show him its alright to be without me for 2secs to take care or his health. I'm not saying that Bright Side is wrong but if you plan on listening to these you don't always have to match. As all dogs are different. I hope that helped!

How do you know? Have you been to a vet? Also, just because your cat may be an OK weight, this is not true of all pets. Your cat might be a special case, so your comment is ignorant.

Alright then tell me where exactly in the original comment did they say anything at all about that applying to every pet? They specifically said they're just talking about their own cat.
I do that with mine for years now and I'll tell you, her vet was very pleased with her during her last check up.
By no means am I saying this applies to all cats or any other pet. I also have a friend who used to leave food out and one of her cats kept overeating and throwing up afterwards, so it's definately not for every pet, but like I said, no one even claimed that to begin with. Some can handle it, some can't so if anyone is ever unsure about it, better be safe and not try it instead of taking chances.
Though calling someone ignorant because they shared their own experience is simply not cool. Finding and sharing what you are passionate about gives you no right to insult people.
Chances are, people will take you more serious if you keep your cinversations friendly instead of sounding like those overly triggered people on the internet.

Had my cat three years from kitten. She wont go out even if u open door and invite her out. She just sits on the threshold till u close door. I took her outride in my arms yesterday, just out on the other side of the screen door and cat was not liking it so i brought her back in. Nice to know she likes her home.

Use an elevated food bowl. It is better for them. Ceramic or stainless steel of course, even the stand. Dont use plastic or wood stand to elevate the bowl, even if the bowl itself is ceramic/stainless steel.

  • @razorransom1795

So ceramic is better, stain less steal can still rust if nor kept properly and get scratched too. Ceramic is best choice, as long as it is glassed properly too.

I have put water out for my cat since it was little (He is now 8)and I have yet to see him drink any!I have to be sneaky to stop dehydration by mixing it with his packet food to make the gravy runnier. Yet he will drink milk and loves to finish off my porridge in winter..He loves my bolognaise sauce and the occasional snippet of steak I'll share with him.Always in a metal or porcelain dish
He wanders off for a few days then eats about 2/3 packets, some crunchy cat food and a treat or 2,rests in the house then goes off again.Other times he calls in the house for 3 meals a day, depending on his mood, the weather etc

Free feeding is usually fine for single pets. The ones that have a problem tend to have been raised on timed meals and think they're supposed to eat it all at once. If they eat too much too much quickly then only putting their daily portion in the bowl may still work. If you have multiple pets it becomes a matter of keeping the foods in different places and seeing if you can get them to keep to their own food bowls, which may require being around to open doors when they want access to it, which is something you usually end up doing when you have a cat anyway.

I still using pets plastik bowl but as stooll to a saucer to make it steady.
I'm using coffee saucer as plate so the cat don't have to bend so low when they eat. Looks more convenient to me.
Also put a plate mate 40x60cm on each, keeps the floor clean.
I also put a glass bowl into plastik bowl, fill it with some water.
So when the cat drag their drink, it wont spill on the floor.

Plants! Cats sometimes bite them and can be toxic if a habit. Cultivated grass is okay since it is a natural medicine for cats and dogs stomach and digestive tract. When I had a cat, he was strictly an indoor roamer but we use to let him out on the front porch in a inclosure do he can explore and excited about the world including bask in the sun's rays.

I’m proud to say we do none of these things. But the ‘automatic’ feeder shown on the video isn’t actually an example of what you’re suggesting. A timed feeder would have some mechanism to let food out, but not just constantly giving them more. The style of feeder shown would be far more likely to lead to obesity in dogs at risk. Also feeding throughout the day has pros and cons, but done properly it’s still moderated and as such doesn’t lead to overeating. In fact because there’s no build up for meal time or worry that they won’t have any more later, the dog is far more likely to learn to listen to their body and self regulate if given free access from puppyhood. This is challenging when you have more than one animal able to access the bowl, and there are a tonne of pros and cons to each side of the argument. The feeder shown in the video is similar to one that would be ideal for giving water over an extended period. It’s allowing free access to an excess of food unmonitored- unless the dog self-limits, that’s a recipe for a poorly tummy 🤒
