You should always "talk about Cisco when showcasing MikroTik". It's important to see how different brands interact in a production ecosystem. It's been the exception rather than the rule (in my experience) to have a company only use one brand. It's usually something along the lines of MikroTik Routers, Cisco Switches, and Ruckus/Ubiquiti/Juniper access points all in the same building.

Thank you for your great work, which you bring to us with your channel. In case you have time and would like one day to prepare a lab, where you have ccr as a router, and crs3XX series with router OS on it which plays as a L2 device, and distribute vlans, to hypotetical hypervisors, that would be a great help, as they slightly differs within it's configuration between series of CRS1XX, CRS2XX and 3XX, which is quite confusing to grasp for a begginer like me. Thx again !

    • @TheNetworkBerg
      @TheNetworkBerg  3 года назад

I would actually love to do that, but I do not see any images from MikroTik that I can download as a virtual switch to play with. I may reach out to them directly to ask if this is something we can do on a virtual level so that I can properly go into VLANs on L2 from MikroTik devices.

    • @makeitcloudy

@@TheNetworkBerg Does it mean that tile and arm version of the router os, differs by the prism of the syntax and gui between the x86 (used on EVE-NG which seems to be router board based) ? If this is the case, then indeed I fully understand the challenge. Maybe mikrotik can help there for a scenario, unless I figure this out as non network SME and share it here or there ;)

    • @makeitcloudy

have managed setting up the setup, it was not that easy for a newcomer like me, was cutting myself off from the CRS few times, but serial did it's trick, one of the most important things to pay attention to, it to add tagged management vlan on the bridge besides the bond interface on the CRS3XX, as bridge has the contact with the CPU, where the other vlans which you pass as L2, as per my understanding will be terminated on the switch chip. This link wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:CRS3xx_VLANs_with_Bonds was very helpfull to end up with DHCP being spread across access ports, and mgmt VLAN still accessible.
Thx for your videos, I've learned a lot from them as well.

Hi Network Berg, I'm trying to autodiscover my network wired printer from a different vlan and subnet. My printer that is on a specific vlan, this isn't bridged and is assigned on a specific interface and I'm trying to find it over a wireless connection provided by the same Mikrotik (has its own antennas). From what I've seen, multicast packets don't go through, even activating igmp proxy. I'm aware they are different broadcasts domains, but is there any way of acheiving this? I have also taken into account that multicast TTL is 1 and have attempted to increase it with a mangle rule.
Note: between both nets there is a firewall general accept. No traffic is filtered. The printer can be manually added by ip.

I have the Mikrotik RB4011 and CRS328 and wish to set up multiple VLANs.
After watching so many videos and reading so many forums etc, I am still not sure whether it's best to create the VLANs on the switch or router (as both have RouterOS) - my gut tells me the switch, with the router 'just' doing Firewall and interVLAN routing as required.
    Appreciate your thoughts.
    Many thanks.

I am also using bridges for each network so I am guessing you can add a newly created VLAN interface to the bridge??

Hi, you're videos are very well done. I know this is an older one but I have a MikroTik Cloud Router/Switch that I want to have act as a pass through distro switch, as in- it accepts two LAN inputs from my Cisco MX firewall, and will pass data from those two LANS onto the respective ports going to my access switches say top row is vlan 100 and bottom row is 200 etc. but without running DHCP since the firewall is handling it. It seems it has to be set up to divy out DHCP but I'm hoping I'm just missing something. I would just plug the access switches directly into the MX but there aren't enough ports. Would you point me to a video that explains that if it is possible? Thx in advance

Some people tend to become confused when it comes to MikroTik and VLANs due to there being 3 ways of implementing VLANs.
      1) Software defined (SVIs)
      2) Bridges
      3) Hardware defined via Switch Chip

    • @TheNetworkBerg

Hi, subnets used depends on the requirement of services you want to deliver. If you are delivering a point-to-point service then /31 or /30 is preferred unless you bring in multiple devices to do stuff like VRRP then you will need a /29. If you are planning networks for your customers then you can whatever size subnet will allow for all current devices plus at least a 15% for possible growth. Most people just use /24 by default as this is very easy to setup and understand the IP scope.
