I lived among these people for two years, 1969/1971. Without going into a long-winded explanation, I developed a great deal of respect. Thank you for this clip you provided. The people where I was located was very different, from housing to the way they dressed and even skin complexion . This appears to be more of a tourist attraction with gift shops. It's almost like comparing 18th century America to the current 21st century. They will always be special to me, thank you.

really wonderful video, thank you for sharing. It brings back a lot of memories. I went trekking 20 y ago, was invited to diner and sleep over there. I was obviously the first blond woman they ever saw in those places. Their kindness and hospitality was truly awesome ( compared to big cities, I am from Lyon, in France) sharing food, recipes, drawing for the kids,learning how to play the mouth harp, dancing, etc.) I was travelling with an American cellist (yeah, I know, not always easy with the weather and roads, I just had my watercolor pencils..), so we had at a lot of impromptu parties:-) Your kindness, respect and humility shows through all your videos. Please keep them coming... And thanks for all the comments from Hmong people you inspire. Hoping the virus doesn't keep you off the roads. Best of wishes to you
Hello Evy, thank you for sharing that with us, and thank you gor your kind words. As I write this now we are in a beautiful little village far from any city, and yes, the people here also are so friendly and helpful. Many offering us a place to stay and eat. Lao has been very fortunate so far with the virus and we are currently free of it. We can travel anywhere within the country, just the international borders closed, so we are making the most of our freedom. Thank you do much for your comment and take care 🙏

I have a Hmong friend that escaped Laos as a child when the Vietnam War ended, i was surprised that he speaks Mandarin Chinese. Love how friendly everyone is in this village, I wouldn't want to leave 😂
Hmong villages,as you said ..So Natural....I never get bored of the villages and the surroundings and the wonderful friendly people. Don't ever think these vallage Vids are boring or non educating Todd. We enjoy every nook and cranny as you do mate,thanks.

Thank you for sharing this video. I'm a Hmong American woman living in Seattle. I haven't been back to visit Laos since we'd left in 1976. Watching videos like this one helps me connect with the past and visually see how my parents used to live.

I lived in Northern Thailand 3km from a border village called Ban Wang Lao,and it was very similar to what you are showing ,but it was 30 years ago.A`lso I hear them talking numbers are in Thai language and a lot of when you say sabai dee is Thai as well.Great job and I really appreciate your videos.Thanks
The Lao languge is spoken in different country's as well. That is why you hear sabai dee in thailand. Lao language spoken in thailand.

I love all of your Lao videos. This has got to be one of my favorites. I have memories of me and brothers playing outside of our village when I was a toddler. We fled the country to the US at the height of communist regime when I was about 3 or 4. Have not been back ever since but I'm itching to go back and visit soon. Thank you for your videos and spreading knowledge to the world about Laos, our culture and some of the most friendliest people. Kop jai!

Their village should not be develop and tourism also should be limited. Otherwise this village will also become like *red light district*

When I was there, I always have some candies with me so I hand them out to kids. I'm sure it's not good to give kids candy but hey it's not like they have it everyday. Any times you get pops or candies are special event. Hehehe.. Good comments thought.

I’m new subscriber here, that is goos you are surviving exploring by yourself , my hubby’s been telling my that he wants to do this when he retire , he said by motorcycle through all the places and village along the way .You can see more of any and everything, survival and exploring on his own .Just seeing everything on his way as he see. As you had said So much to see here.Enjoying life for what it’s meant to be ,just get out there and do it. Keep on doing what you enjoy. Love it when the children running after you. Keep it up .I truly believe, Happiness what you make it.

I respect you for going to the Hmong villages , us hmong people who was born in United States after the secret war , wish we can and always think about visiting back in Laos ( hmong villages ) but never goes as plan .

Thanks for posting this interesting video. I am a California born Hmong, but my parents were from Laos and left during the late 1970s because of War. What an incredible video. Looks like at 8:25 the girl was saying, "you just lied to me!"
At the 25 min mark into the video, right off the bat I thought those kids didn't look Hmong. Then they began speaking and it wasn't Hmong. Lol. But you probably knew that too.
It sound so familiar into my ears Ban long Lao..I meant it is so familiar to our tribals peoples in Northeastern India. Bordering Myanmar it is Naga tribes...Early in the 80s when war broke out in myanmar many Laos peoples came to India escaping the war . After staying few months these peoples went backed .I'm confused how Laos could peoples could be in this Myanmar country .Here it is separately Laos Hmong peoples in separate country. And I'm still in worried condition watching this undeveloped places , how long it will take to have more developmental activities in the areas which your walking right now. I hope it will take pretty long time for development. Peoples need to understand outside world ...

Oleoresin capsicum is commonly used as a basis for tear gases. There are also uses known in the manufacture of soaps of cosmetics, as well as coloring agents for foods."

I think it's awesome you try to buy things to help support them, it's not much to us but it probably means a lot to them.
Hey Todd,,, well, i was gonna try t limit my words, but after that i cant. Lol Just beautiful! I feel the same about self exploration. A guide will often put their own slant on things or say things they expect you want to hear, not alway, but alot of the time. Even befotr you mentioned it , i was thinking about coming back with a bag of goodies for the kids, and beer and tobacco for the elders and sit around while they smoke their pipes r whatever drinking beer and listening to stories. Find the right shrooms, you dont need to speak the language, but still, you can understand perfectly. Or at least thats what you percieve under the influence of mushrooms. Lol The buildings again, some were amazing. Speaking a few words of a native language goes mies towards being accepted and it helps put the guys your speaking to at ease. Man, Todd, i love this stuff, this little trip has been amazing. Ond last thing , some of those Hmong moms were very striking looking , very pretty. It seems that you regularly do things ive dreamed of, so thanks a million for sharing. Ttyl Marlon
Those two old men really touched my heart mate. I really wanted to know who they were. Were they once young boys of this same village growing up together, now clinging to the memories they both once made. Have they spent their entire life here. How they survived the war. So many questions... Yeah, i really want to go back and spend some time with those gentlemen before it's too late... and the children, they all seem so happy. Seeing children play like that is something we just don't see much of anymore. Another thing struck me. How tidy the village is. No rubbish lying around and the dirt looks like it is swept regularly. So neat and tidy. A very proud and beautiful people indeed.

Thanks for showing us the Hmong village in Laos. I am Hmong. I was born in Laos but raised in America. My dad served in the secret war in the '70's helping the American CIA and because of that my dad was killed by the North Vietnamese soldiers that's why my family had fled to the United States. I like watching all of your Laos vlogs but it's a bit shaky so I can't watch all the way til the end of each video due to my vertigo. If you don't mind next time please film it steady so that I can watch all of your future vlogs (thanks).

When I come to Laos we can venture together. I can speak a lot of Hmong and survival Lao,. Quick tip Hmong houses don't usually have stilts. The houses normally sit right on top of the the dirt.

Thanks for sharing your trip, Todd. Much as I love Laos I'm not sure I'd go to the trouble of getting off the beaten track to explore some of those villages but it's nice to be able to view.

Cycled through Laos on my mountain bike and came across many villages and be greeted with
Oooooooh farang Oooooh farang (foreigner) from the many children and their mothers but
seldom see the fathers. The huge scars on the landscape where americans off loaded their bombs
on the people without warning..Wiping out complete villages.
It was a tough ride by bike on those tracks. But i never got a puncture.
13:27 walked past a lady making fabric....22:28 a male master basket weaver....hard to find basket weavers on planet earth( even MORE RARE is a man)....today a lot R fr the Phils....next time can U please film these IMPORTANT ancient custom?...I find that most interesting & might disappear....these hard to find ppL is WHY ppL go to SEA....Thanks... :)) great video ...awesome...who R these ppL , I wonder...
