from my experience, When you are fully in the present moment, the reality is that you are not merging with your thought, but you are totally separeted from your thought and you become whole, you become One with what you are doing. it is a totally pure state of consciousness. The present moment or the NOW is not even something to understand it is something to live experiencialy.
