This vid actually is Ryan's best. You can tell he was being super creative and having fun doing it. You've come a long way Ryan
I’ve never seen Ryan so happy!!!! I loved the back in time skit he did. Awesome editing. Cheers!
My favorite video because it was so much fun and you didn't drag out the updating of your Equipment over several episodes!
What a great presentation for your new equipment. And a great sense of humor as well. Now it's time for the both of you to ENJOY!
Ryan you are so smiley when you talk tech!! Great video you two!!
I love ryan's tech tuesday.
All that stuff for free!!!! Nice and happy for you.
Finally a tech corner again !
one of the best video's from you ever !!
Truly well done!!!!
I miss laughing a bit (since a couple of years), so thanks a ton ! Take care ! And fair winds !
No words.. FANTASTIC!! And I don’t mean the Gadgets only 🤣
Great episode. Can't wait to see more on the radar
So funny 🤣 understand getting excited for new gear we are in the process of doing the same thing
Great vid…so glad we found you!! We bought a boat that has RM dop quant2 in the box are getting ready to install the radar and have a few questions. We have axiom 12, all ports are taken up on the back, there is a Ethernet hub,iTC-5 but we don’t see a high speed switch. We can’t seem to find info on where to plug in the radar to test it to see if it works before we commit to installing on the mast. Love any advice or resources you may hav.
Hahaha very informative and funny. I think that's the happiest and most animated we've seen Ryan in ANY video. Well done both of you
Great explanation Ryan, I still can't get my AIS to show up on my plotter I'm way behind 2007 Ryan
Sometimes I can't get my AIS to show on my plotter
@@RyanSophieSailing I hope the new set up is OK, perhaps a checkover of my set up is needed
I'm getting ready to do the same thing on my Cat Morgan 440. I'm wondering where you mounted your iTC-5.
New to sailing, but I've come to the conclusion that Raymarine is the Apple of nautical tech: decent quality, but high-priced, and that's largely due to the company's spend on slick advertising and promotions... like giving RUclips channels and other influencers gear to use in twenty minute commercials.
Let me be your eyes 👀👀
Good balance of info and fun. Thankfully no footage of connecting cables etc. Can you ask the 2037 Ryan how things are?
That would be nice... hopefully there is a 2037 Ryan;)
Wondering if it's possible to go completely wireless (except power supply) on these devices?
For things like the radar and wind instruments yes, I don't believe it's possible on the rest.
TOTALY HOW MUCH THE RAYMARINE FULL SET?
About half of the way through Sophie's explanation of the wiring, I started thinking, : Where the hell are they going to run all that wiring??? Now I am a bit afraid to watch the rest of the video!!
Who does your onshore weather routing? My mum is insisting I have someone watching over me that "knows what the bloody hell they are doing"...thx
Two good sources for this Matt. Andy Schell at 59 north. His mission control is more than just weather routing and you get years of experience.
The other is Charlie at my weather router. Charlie is a great and he emails you as I'd he is a member of the crew not as some external router. He really takes stock is his clients. His wife is also a medical doctor who can provide advice if needed off shore (we have known people who have had to use her services).
Hope this helps
@@RyanSophieSailing thank you ..and for a serious sailing question... when is the last time you watched "captain ron" .. ha ha .. fair winds
so how do I get free stuff ?
Your going to regret buying all of that.
Yes it is an 18 minute commercial but still fun! Never seen Ryan so animated!
Watching Ryan geek out on tech is a stupid amount of fun! :-) Thanks for sharing this.
"It would always be nice if these RUclipsrs would tell whether someone has sponsored the supplies. If that's the case, then it's totally okay that you've chosen the Raymarine system. If it hasn't been sponsored, it would be nice to know why you specifically chose the Raymarine system. Why didn't you choose B&G/Garmin, etc.?"
Hey. Great episode. Ryan is in his element. Congrats on the new gear!
Congrats! I'm a tech geek and I'm still intimidated! Fortunately, my Hobie Cat 16 does not need much in the line of electronics! 🤣. Smooth sailing you two!
Why can't I give three thumps up to this post??!! I always love Ryan's technical corners and this was great. So glad you have all this new equipment, but I bet there were a few choice words while running cables that were not shared. Can't wait for the next episode. Love you guys!
I think that this was Ryan's best one yet. I laughed my butt off. We should see more of 2007 Ryan!
Remembering how awkward Ryan used to be in front of camera at the start of the channel, and watching him now is really something.
Thanks Sciolist.
I watch a lot, I mean a LOT of sailing videos -- this one was both informative and interesting with a laugh or two. Nicely done! Just what I was looking for was more info on Raymarine today. Now to find that radar video you mentioned....
SO you went from an all proprietary system to another proprietary system,... Even if the protocol is standard, you cant connect any other brand on it. How to make the same mistake two times...
Eric, your statement is simply not true. The only thing proprietary in the system is the plug ends. You can connect anything you want to the system, where it be raymarine or not.
Nice to see Sophie's good humour rubbing off on Ryan. Very informative.
Lots of questions about why Ray marine, I think it’s price, they seem to be 10-15% lower than B&G and Garmin, but Raymarine has its own communication protocol Seatalk, others don’t do this they all use NMEA 2000, so beware with Raymarine
Nothing like getting some early Christmas Presents! Merry Christmas Y'all 🙂😊
That was great! Loved the 2007 Ryan! That new system is killer! Radar looks amazing. Is there a bunch of calibration or did it all pretty much just... work?
I am installing a backbone so I can connect my Auto Pilot, Radar Quantum 2 (doppler) and Axiom, but I do not understand why you chose to use the HS5 SeaTalkhs Network Switch as well as the Seatalk NG Backbone. Would not the HS5 satisfy all of your requirements. Just trying to figure this stuff out.
Love this video. Sooo helpful. But just plz tell Ryan 2007 - BTFD.
i have a EV100 autopilot on seatalkng and a separate network switch HS5 that connects my Radar, AIS and Axiom. I want to connect by EV100 to the HS5 so I can see my autopilot on the Axiom. Is this possible. I spent endless hours searching Seatalkng to Raynet to no avail. Any Ideas?
Trying to teach myself NMEA 2K and marine electronics in general. We just bought a 2004 Hunter 44 Deck Salon and I assumed (remember that word starts w/ “ass” as in I am a jackass for assuming anything) that the new Garmin 942XS chart plotter was connected to all of the Raymarine instruments and auto pilot…not so much. After learning about NMEA 2K AND that all devices need to be connected by cables AND then realizing there is only a pwr cable going into the back of the Garmin AND that all of the Raymarine stuff on my boat is probably original to the boat and likely can’t even talk to the new chart plotter…my heart sank and I realized I had a lot to learn and a lot of work ahead of me. Thank you for the education. Only thing I’m fuzzy on is running cable. You showed a little bit on running the mast cable but not any of the other cables. I’m just wondering if you have any tricks/techniques on finding all the hardware that needs to be replaced, tracing cable runs and pulling new. What type of problems/opportunities did you run into. Thank you for the video!
I just finished a similar install. I have a mix of Furuno and other instruments. My old autopilot was an Autohelm. I wanted to keep my linear drive so I installed a Raymarine EV 400 autopilot. It was a PIA to hook this up. Everyone else conforms with the standard NMEA connectors, but not Raymarine. They have proprietary cables. There is no apparent reason for this stupidity. I recommend avoiding Raymarine if at all possible.
Arrgh, noooo, you said it. We had hoped you'd never say it, hoped you'd just stick to sailing, but then, in this vid, you did. "Get the shot". We really liked your videos, watched many episodes, but that ignorance ruined it all for us. Shame. Did you get sponsored for that as well?
..... laughing ..... from the guy that was not exactly over joyed when the camera was in his face .... well done Ryan and congrats on the new equipment and partnership .... thx for the share .. as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ....
Ryan, you knocked it out of the park with your near Oscar worthy performance! You made the techie stuff look real easy or was it because of Sophie's network diagram?? 😂
Great video as always! And Santa has been really nice to sponsor you for +10K €!!!, what did you write him :-)
Ryan, this episode was 2 yrs ago.
Can we please have an update with your thoughts & opinions ?
thank you
New Stuff! I love new stuff! But, I know my limitations, and this new stuff is why I am sitting here and you, Ryan & Sophie, are living there! Sophie, your Los Angeles freeway (Ala Johnny Carson) diagram was best! Use this new stuff in good health, and now you will be able to find the New Year's celebration without much ado, just be sure your batteries are full charged. :¬) Webhead USA
Too funny! Starlink next! not to mention the Tesla PI (rumored...) phone in about X years.
Raymarine is so awesome.....great setup! Well done Ryan!
I like the gear…. The proprietary cables suck. But still, good video. Merry Christmas to you both
Great video, keep it well for Ryan 2030. :) By then, you will talk about Seatalk NG as that old CAN based thing that could not even connect a radar directly and how now all is upgraded to Seatalk HS, the new ethernet based thing that's so fast, and those special Raymarine connectors. Which makes me wonder if that switch you mentioned is already Seatalk HS?
Super cool Ryan! Nice presentation. Very funny. I like to see Ryan 2007 .-)
Glad to see Ryan got to “Upgrade/Replace” the Electronics👍 Sure “Stunk” on Last Passage☹️ Continue to Stay Safe & Enjoy😎
Freaky: this is exactly the position i find myself in right now!
Hi Ryan. Just a question because I am setting up a basic NMEA 2000 converting all analog to digital. 1) with the AIS 700 did you install a specific GPS for the Transducer? I got different information and happy to hear what you have done. Some say you cannot share the AIS GPS antenna with other devices. 2) Is installing an ITC-5 still advisable? If I convert the depth and log sounders to Seatalk Ng compatible instruments and drop the old devices, for what other connections would you need an ITC-5? 3) My chandler thinks the I70 is a waste of money because you have all the data on the Axioms.I see you planned for two, what”s your advice? Happy to see you back on track. Cheers Marc
Good questions. 1. It is my understanding that the AIS requirements state that the AIS needs its own independent GPS receiver. The AIS 700 dies come with one so this should not be an issue. 2. If you convert your instruments to digital I see no reason for the iTC5, 3. I disagree with your chandler, while the i70s is expensive it does have some additional options, showing wind history and others. The big question for you is how your boat is setup? We use the i70 for wind direction and speed while using the chart functions on the plotter you can't display all that data at once. This is the reason we have 2 i70s, because I want to see wind and speed information on each side depending which helm I'm at. They are very capable devices just very expensive, which may be why your chandler did not recommend it. Hope that helps. Ryan
How much money will this coat 50 thousand dollars and who is running all of the cables
☑️👍🏝️Cute and informative, wow have things changed.
did you say propriatary Raynet ethernet cables ? Ethernet is a standard you know
So strange to see Ryan happy as he is =again= lured in the Raymarine proprietary trap.....
Ryan 2007 : buy auction from medic compagny ;)
Nice and awesome video! I enjoyed it just watching it.
Great video, very informative and entertaining!! Thanks!
OMG you've got a toilet pump shirt!
Stand by for more on that ;)
@@RyanSophieSailing I'm more jealous of that than all the Raymarine goodies.
Ryan that video is awesome. I'd love to know the model numbers of all the components. Let's say I wanted to duplicate your system on my boat. Could you publish a parts listing with model numbers and such? Would love to see this. If you are going to put this information out there somewhere on your website or in a blog or something please let me know in a response.
We will do this in the coming days and let you know
Hold on!!! Writing the blog post as we speak. Why wasn’t it done sooner? That’s a good question 😂
@@RyanSophieSailing thanks buddy! I would love the same kit. Ray marine made a good investment in your setup.
Also please add the MSRP!
To much nonsense jaw jacking just get to the install
Hi, great episode. I use the alarms, or guard zones, a lot at sea. That can be of interest to others.
...and the Victron app
Excellent works 👍👍👍👍love this vid so much 😃
Ryan has become such a strong / entertaining on-screen personality. Its cool
Great video Ryan - How does the Axiom stream to the TV, where you showed the radar image? I'm planning a similar upgrade from 2007 era gear.
I just did it over wifi in the menu, it was really easy to do. Your TV needs to be the kind that can accept wifi streams
Can hear Sophie but do not see her, and was wanting to ask her if she can make Chicken Cordon Blue? Very nice Ray Marine System way better than the old systems.
Sure she can but Sophie does not eat cheese so cordon blue is not on the menu at our house.
You missed something important. You need battery power connected to the backbone as well - your nifty moving diagram doesn’t show that.
This is very true Ian. Ryan
Ah, a man who knows what he wants and how to get it, powerrrrr! 😜
Cool as!! cabling the boat, Ryan is going to love that!! That's right up there with fixing toilets!! :)
I love cabling so so much. Actually we already hadst the cables in place so that part was easy
proprietary cabling is a ridiculous scam
Bahahahahaha.... I always imagined Sophie got her sense of humour from her mom but I see now she undoubtedly got it from Ryan.... hehehehe. Congrats on the new gear!!!!
Haha... thanks!
MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022
You modernize your electronics but still stick with a 1970 hair cut, grow up
Ryan wasn't even born in the 70ies :p
Fantasy video--Will Prowse visits Polar Seal . Ryan and Will discuss solar / batteries.
Haha thanks... people really love will. I think he is way smarter than I.
How can i become raymarine ambasador? 😊
I wonder which EV you have installed: EV-200 or EV-400?
200
A tribute to designed obsolesce....
good video. Thanks for doing it. As you did, we just connected our Seatalk 1 to Seatalk NG, but went a bit farther because I have a Garmin Chartplotter, we connected the Seatalk NG to a NEMA 2000. It has an added unplanned advantage of independently powering both networks. so I have redundancy if one power source goes down. Well, thanks again.
What’s the cost for everything
Wow! what a nice interesting vlog. I'm so glad you guys have got some new toys, well done. Stay safe and have a fantastic Christmas. x
Thanks so much steve
What’s the cost of everything
Cool video, but be careful guys. You are not allowed to use the radar in the Marinas
Its one if the nice things about the solid state 4g radars... they use a different system and are much much safe in spaces like that.
Eles são um bando de trambiqueiros.
all up more than $15 K
NICE idea that timetravel :-)
What is the cost for everything
Damn it! This is my favorite episode so far! Thanks! And appreciate that Sophie chart of wires!
Thanks!
Hey guys are you looking to sell your tridata speed, depth, temp display?
Hi Kris... we already gifted them on :( sorry
Ryan is in a candy store... LOL
Hi Ryan, just a quick question about your dinghy: you used first with open now catamaran style and then more traditional shaped dinghy - which one is better from your expirience?
Hi Sergey. You are correct, we have used both and love them both. I think it really depends on what you want to use it for. For us I find the close bow or more traditional dinghy works a bit better. That said we have found dogs love the open bow version and we love it when we are getting a lot of stuff on and off the boat. So it really depends.
I know most the takacat dealers offer demo rides... take one out for a spin and see what you thing before you buy. Ryan
@@RyanSophieSailing many thanks Ryan
I was going to skip this one, but glad I didn't. I learned some useful stuff. My experience with Raymarine has been very favourable. We bought a boat with 2008 stuff and a sun burned out screen. I made the new fitting with a $2 scrap of plexiglass, and just to check I turned on the new chart plotter before running new cables. It worked immediately showing all the rest of the 2008 system. Not only that, but it says you can't control the autopilot using your phone however it seems to have ignored that restriction. Note to idiot self in 1998 "take the job with that hopeless startup company called Gurgle" or something. I told my agent no.
