I have a little Martin backpacker autographed by David Crosby, Steve Stills, and Graham Nash. Crosby didn’t want to sign at first, saying “You’re going to sell it.” My wife chimed in... “Trust me, he’ll never sell it.” I’ll hand it down to my grandson. Crosby is great. Man is a gift and major influence.
Beautiful song, beautiful performance. Thanks for posting. Makes you proud to be part of a human race that can create such beauty. Only thanks to God . . .
I am deeply saddened, although I was able to experience David only twice, namely in 1986 at a festival with Stills & Nash in Augsburg / Germany and 2010 at the castle in Esslingen a.N. / Germany also with his two trusted musician colleagues. Thank you for everything David, in my heart you live on, as well as Jimy Hendrix, Jerry Garcia, Duane Allman, Duane Allman, Butch Trucks, Janis, Brain, Kurt........ rest in Peace
I’ve always assumed that our creative peak is in our 20’s and 30’s. That’s the only explanation for why so few artists continue to create new music beyond that age. But then David Crosby comes along and writes some of his best stuff in his 70’s. Amazing.
His resurgence again!!!! has been amazing... Saw him live about 2 years ago.. I was stunned.... His voice is always the mysterious one in the harmonies of CSN or CSNY... Clearly, he really does have the goods again... Not many people lose their way as much as he did and get back to us... He has a sturdy constitution. And has written some amazing songs over his last 2 albums....
Beautiful. I saw him just a few years ago at Tanglewood with Chris Hillman and Herb Peterson. Was awesome. I sent him a Twitter message saying how much I enjoyed it. He responded how much he enjoyed playing with Chris and Herb. So cool! ✌️❤️
"And he played real good. On his clarinet, for free" 1:09 Mitchell revealed the song’s inspiration when she introduced it at the Newport Folk Festival in 1969, saying: “There’s a young man in New York City, I don’t know his name, but he’s blind and he sits on the street and plays his clarinet for whatever money people will give him. I’ve often ridden past him, and wondered about his life, and I’ve written this song for him. It’s called ‘The Boy Who Plays for Free.'” Joe Taysom - JAN 2023 Source: Far Out Magazine
Unbelievable that as a baby n little girl he sang for the Byrd's n then as a preteen I heard him with CSNY..his voice has been the background of my life..I always thought he sang beautifully ..played wonderfully..n wrote soulfully..this hurts..so unique n never to have here again but to research rediscover and cherish..I will miss that little boy smurk that needed a spanking here n there! LoL,!..I can't wait to keep listening n loving. ✌️🕊️ Brother see ya later ❤
I'm in awe. I just know, that David Crosby's been through Dante's Inferno and survived. He'd still be the gifted Musician, he is today. Some take crooked-paths and get back on the right one. It didn't matter the path, what's important is the message. I'm humbled to see him perform. 🇨🇦✌🏻🎶🎸✍🏻♥️🇺🇸✨🌎
What song of Joni's doesn't touch one's heart in an immence way. Even David does it to me. I have to wipe my eyes. I had a tough time getting through this song when we had "folk night" at the SUB in college. Hardly a dry eye in the room.
I'm buying David Crosby last album, which title track is precisely the one he plays here "For free." It is an excellent album, with great collaborations in it, i.e.; Sarah Jarosz, Michael MacDonald, Donald Fagen, and James' Raymond, Crozes son. I hope the proceeds of selling his last studio album goes to him in their enterity, since he had to sell the rights of his songs recently as a result of the financial strains he has endured recently due the restrictions derived from the pandemic. Thank you for posting.
Joni's🎻"simple country waltz~because i like what what it says" Sweet Songbird David Crosby 👼🏻🎶played so sweet-so fine 🎶 🎶maybe put on a harmony~playin' real good for free🎶 🌹i love Croz~always + forever🕊

Met Joni once at a Pleasure Fair outside of Vancouver, Canada and she was sitting next to me and my girlfriend in a tee-pee with the Banana Bros. smoking a pipe. This was the early seventies. Awesome gathering in the backwoods. Anyway love what you do David!!! ❤️

Crosby is great. Man is a gift and major influence.
And one day, he'll have learned those names, heard at least some of their music, and understand what the word "treasure" means.
David Crosby was such a talented, inspiring musician! RIP David!
RIP David thanks for the music. Go well xx
Great ride Mr Crosby . Ups & Downs. Thank you for the great music 🙏🏾
Brilliant song, brillant interpreter, brilliant camera work!
Voice still clearly identifiable as one of rock's best ever.
Seeing Crosby still smiling after the magnificent life he's led brings so much joy to so many people. Long may we run.....

Thank you, Jeff Allen, for sharing this musical moment for free. ☮️❤️
Possibly my favourite Joni Mitchell song.
I was there. It was an exceptional excellent small venue. I can hear my 'mare whistle' in the background .

He was old yet his voice sounds good and free.

If you seen him live you know. If you didn’t here you go. He was a force onstage. This is proof

Love this song, and his voice still breaks my heart.

What he ‘has been’ is more than you will ever be. . . many times over.
That’s okay. Can’t please everyone.
He s still beloved and revered as a legend.
