one of the most under rated drummers of all time. he is so technical, yet he also knows when to just sit back and play a straight up 4/4 beat to let other instruments stand out in the mix. that is the definition of a great drummer, its not the fastest fills, not the hardest things to play..its being smart, playing smart. just listen to back in the saddle. you can barely hear a hi hat in the chorus. this helps the 6 string bass stand out and be more defined and carry the song because you are only hearing the snare and kick pounding through like a hammer. seen him live many times. many great moments.

Totally agree here ! He's one of my childhood heroes alongside Roger Taylor, Jeff Porcaro and Hendrix's drummers. He and Tom Hamilton can groove closed eyes. One of the best rhythm sections ever. Hands down

Nice guy Joey! I met him in 1983 in new Rochelle n y at a club called the crazy horse. He used to go there a lot it was when Aerosmith had broken up. and I also had met there Aerosmith's original guitarist before brad withford Crazy Ray tabano! We became close but at the time my head was up my rear so our friendship faded. Great times!

I use to be his neighbor in Marshfield mass. Talked to him many times..I remember one day back in the 80s we delivered food and turkeys to the needy .we belonged to the Marshfield community Thanksgiving and Xmas group.. Joey has done some good stuff besides play drums

Kramer , Hamilton & Whitford have never had their due in recognition, but it truly would NOT be “Aerosmith” without them.

What a talented drummer and seems like a truly nice guy. His memoir, Hit Hard, is a great read.

I saw an interview once where he pointed to his eye twitch and said: "You see this? Steven Tyler."

Joey Kramer, Brian Downey , Jerry Shirley and Phil Taylor are all great but underappreciated drummers. They made their respective bands better

    great book......
the only part I disagree with is Joey had all the resources in the world to get help,
    most people don't.
but it's amazing that he got sober and stayed sober
    great drummer

Seems to be a nice guy! And maybe hes been frosen out of the band nowadays because of the book? Combined with ego stuff from Tyler only he and the rest of the band knows the real circumstances of it!

@Nelson Robert Willis You know a heck of a lot more about the Aerosmith bands personal lives than I do. I do find it disheartening if he said the alimony was worth getting rid of his wife. If that's true it's disgusting, they have a child together, and were together for a long time. She's clearly better of without him. Good luck with your coffee Joey, oh and Get a grip!
